Pension Contributions To Double

It's confirmed that our pension contributions will double in 2012. Look at your check, and double the amount that is being taken out now. Gives you a warm fuzzy feeling don't it?

Oh, and don't forget, we lose two more paid holidays before years end.

To remind you how much you are appreciated and loved by the commissioners, Commissioner Sutton, a fine example of a worthless piece of dog excrement that a human can be, has hired a lawyer at taxpayer expense to keep all her lies straight.

It is far beyond a joke now. We can't understand why the taxpayers are not over flowing commission meetings demanding for her resignation.

Because they are all like-minded, support her, and would do the same thing if in her position. It really is no mystery and to annex is the only solution for a tax payer. Only solution for employees is to freeze retirement and leave for a normal environment.

Haha guess she showed YOU (the tax payers of Dekalb County). Who's she going to hire to keep her in line when ordering a double quarter pounder with cheese when asked if she wants to super-size? Is ANYONE still unclear why this county is in the dire fiscal situation it is in now? GOOD LORD...

To anon 1:11, you are right on target, freeze your pension and move on. The BOC must be kicking themselves over the past early retirement incentive that they offered. Now, they can achieve the same thing and it won't cost them 40 million dollars. Now they can hire two asphalt workers for the price of one, two entry level workers to mow lawns for the price of one and two rookies for the price of one senior officer. You guys with 7 years or less need to hang on, you'll be Captains in 2 years. The real smack down has just begun.
Look the BOC are not career employees. They don't care if you are, and they show you how much they care everyday.

So then it doubles again next year, and the next, etc., etc. I think it's pretty clear they don't want anyone to be able to afford to stay in it so they can stop county contributions and let it dry up when the last vested person currently in it dies. Which sparks the question why the HELL would anyone with any sense stay and work in Dekalb PD?

Hey!! Who ever is the last one to leave, don't forget to shut off the lights!! Ah, screw 'em! Leave the lights on!!

I guess the BOC doesn't want to attract quality candidates. Instead, they'll settle for people like Don Frank, Jeremy Reynolds, Quevius Thornton, and Donald Bristol, just to name a few of the dirty cops DeKalb County has had on their roster recently.

Remember this, citizens! You get what you pay for!

Holy shit! Why is she spending taxpayer dollars on a private attorney? The county has a legal department with quite a few lawyers already on the county payroll that are supposed to be consulted if there is a question about the legality of this stuff. Guess they are already too busy with all the other law suits the county is facing.

This is an outrage. Where the hell is the DA's Office? Better yet, where is our Detective attached to the FBI and our SID folks who are supposed to be investigating corruption?

Well this is no surprise. My advice to all those not vested is to go to the hybrid plan. At least you will have more control over your future. With the way things go at this place, who is to say it wont change again in just a few years and who knows where the money will be at that point. You can pay into a pension that may not exist for you when its your turn to draw (much like social security) You may not believe it but pensions have been robbed and depleted before. Sure, some people may go to jail over it, but in the end the money is still gone and you wont have anything.

For those that have been here a while, I feel for ya. You are getting screwed the worst and have tough financial decisions to make in tough and uncertain financial times. Hopefully those that keep on taking from us and taking for themselves get taken from themselves. Karma for some folks running this place cant come soon enough.

The employee relations committee (ERC) should have a name change to the employee raping committee.

God Speed brothers and sisters

If our pension rates increase then doesnt that mean the County contributions will also have to increase. Where is the logic? Everyone stay in the current plan and this will force them to reconsider this robbery B.S.

If my contribution doubles that will be $1,000.00 per month out of my check towards the pension. This would mean that my actual take home pay has been reduced by over $400.00 per check over the last three years. I guess at this rate in the next three years I will be working for free and I am coming up on my 20 year mark. How did this happen!!!!!!!!!!!! Its now a critical situation and not just about having a job. I have never seen a BOC so anti employee since I started working here 19 plus years ago. This board really needs to rethink this decission. It will not just have drastic effects on Police Officers but all County employees. Many employees will lose everything they own with this decission.

Double!????!!!!?!?!?
... Hmmm .....looks like it's ten years and done.... I don't think I'll reach 11 with Dekalb.

It's obvious the BOC is doing their best to banish the current retirement system. In all honesty, the citizens of DeKalb can't afford to pay our retirement. Its an old system that is no longer sustainable in todays economy.

I am one of those stuck in the middle with 15 years in and still way below that age of retirement. To pay another 100-200 bucks a month makes no sense when I will never get the money back which I contributed. How about publishing some more information about the new retirement program being brought up so some of us can make a decision. The bitching isn't getting us nowhere.

"contacted his law firm which represents the state association of black county commissioners"
More tax payer money given to a racially motivated interest group. The same people that are running these interest groups are the ones crying that the cities of Dunwoody, Milton, etc, are "racist" for wanting more control over their tax dollars. When you see this kind of crap in Dekalb is there any question as to why anyone would want their own small local government as opposed to the big good old boy network we have here?

To Anon 10/30 @ 11:31 AM, you say the taxpayers can't afford to pay our outdated retirement system. You are probably right, since most other counties have changed their pensions. The big difference is that our good benefit made up for our terrible pay rates.

If DeKalb employees made salaries on par with others, then you would be right in that taxpayers couldn't support a rich retirement plan. Since most employees are severely underpaid for their work, the light at the end of the tunnel was a decent retirement.

With the merit increases first reduced from 5 to 2%, then stolen from us completely, working test increases taken, furlough days, unpaid holidays, taking our sick comp check, reducing our annual leave, increasing benefits costs each year, and practically doubling our pension contributions every year, that was the last perk that would keep good employees from running away.

I can see why we have 2 recruit classes, because nobody will want to stay. These recruits are going to stay just long enough to get trained and then will leave. We won't be able to serve the citizens because we'll always be in a state of training newbies that then will leave for real employment with real pay and benefits.

That document looked more like a suggestion for the actuaries to use to calculate costs, rather than a final decision. God help them if they do anything that drastic because the early retirement wasn't anything compared to what they'll see. It will be all the good officers that will flock to other places and DeKalb will be left with what they pay for.

Told you so a couple of years ago. Anyone that didn't freeze it and move on has only themselves to blame.

Damn... So what percentage are we up to NOW and what will we be up to AFTER the doubling?

The pension contributions and the health care costs change as fast at the ranks and titles given the the White Shirts.....I can't keep track.

wow 168 dollars an hour to support her fat a**?? How do we allow that? County tax payers pay for someone to help cover up her mistakes? Oh but its the association for black commissioners so thats allowed, as long as the money is kept within race its ok.

Well, well. Ashley Bell. Ashley Bell is not only an attorney, but he's also a County Commissioner in Hall County. He was elected last go-round. He's helped dismantle services over in Hall County and no one I talk to likes him. I still don't know who his constituents are.

This corrupt county will no longer drain my hard earned salary to pay for a pension that I will never see. Best of luck for those that remain but I will no longer be a victim to DeKalb County fraud.

Put current funds in a fixed account for those vested now before we loose it all. New and current employees are going to a 401 as our old pension is not sustainable but we must freeze it now while it is still mostly funded or the thieves will surely get it. If you want something to show for your years of service in this county take action NOW.

I hope the BOC acts properly (fully funds in secure fixed rate) in this case or they will find themselves personally sued and or jailed in the future as is happening in other municipalities.
