What an awful trend. The job gets tougher and the benefits get leaner. Makes no sense.

I'm willing to bet nowhere even close to 1 in 10 commissioners are being assaulted. But that's OK we'll just continue to take it and go out there and risk our lives on a daily basis so that they can continue to screw us at every turn.

It's been said that police work went from the penthouse to the outhouse over the last 20 years. Most would prefer to work in sanitation since THAT garbage doesn't complain or sue you when you are disposing of it.

1 in 10 sounds kinda lean to me. As a former Dekalb Officer I can assure you that 100% of DeKalb Officers who do thier jobs correctly, and dont have some cush position, will be assualted at least occasionally at work. I guess it depends on how you define assault. If I am fighting somebody in an attempt to arrest them and they are violently resisting me...they are assaulting me. If they ram my police car with thier getaway car....they have assaulted me. How can you work as a patrol officer in DeKalb and not get assualted? Thats like working for sanitation and coming home not smelling like garbage. Geting injured fighting perps comes with the job. One thing is for certain....if the perp raised his hand at me, they went to Grady Hospital when I got through with them!
Thank you J.T. Irwin and Fred Becker. I survived and retired.
Officer Survival....Can I get an Amen......

bottom line.. DKPD are awesome!!! they are the best of the best... with the exception of some of the new one fresh out the academy this summer....they still have a lot to learn .. the Problem with the department are those who signs their short changed checks they are the crud and lint in a fat mans belly button on a hot summers day...

My favorite sayings before I retired: "If you run, you'll only go to jail tired and sweaty".
"In God we trust; you sir will be run through NCIC". "Can you run faster than 1200 feet per second? That's the speed of what I'll be chasing you with".

How does feel to be a baby sitter and social worker in a target suit?

Basically, that is police work has become over the last 15 years.

With the ever increasing scrutinity of your daily routine, and the sue happy lawyers warrants the job to have personal liability insurance. Your department doesn't give a crap about you. All the county is interested in is the bottom line, how much power and money the commissioneers and CEO can get, and to have their names always in the spotlight.

It has become one hella of a world we have to work and live in since way back. We try so hard to think that we are making a difference, and the end result, doesn't mean squat. We run down bad guys, lock their slimy asses up, and some liberal judge comes along, and kick their butts out of jail for good behavior and/or lack of space.

We all know about the revolving door syndrome.

Lets hope and pray that the situation gets better as it has been getting worse.

Good luck Brothers and Sisters out there.
