Tax hikes don't stop lawmakers travel.....

http://www.ajc.com/news/tax-hikes-dont-stop-1217780.html

"Three days after DeKalb County raised property taxes to their highest level in recent history, five elected officials and two county employees took an all-expenses paid trip 2,600 miles away.

Taxpayers footed the $14,771 bill for the travel to the National Association of Counties legislative conference in Portland, Ore. No other metro Atlanta county sent nearly as large a contingent as DeKalb, if they sponsored a trip at all, prompting disgust from residents who see the issue as politically tone-deaf move."

--and--

"Tight budgets can always use extra cash. DeKalb recently spent about the same amount as its NACO trip on its share of a national grant to buy bulletproof vests for its police department. The $14,300 buys 28 vests for officers."

whats the latest on the pension?? Is it really going to double? When is the vote? what is on the table?

another hit like that a month for me will be the last straw, I cant take it anymore

Hey Board of Crooks, if you really cared about the County you serve, dump some of that money into public safety. Put more cops on the street to keep your citizens safe. Keep in mind its our tickets that fund these bs trips.

I want to see the bar bill, and Ms. Sutton's room service!!

No one knows what they will do about the pension. We all know they need to change things, most likely go to a 401 or 459 for new hires. The scary part is the raise in percentage those of us who have been here for years will be facing. They don’t realize that, having seen not a single raise in over 5 years, and with our medical coverage having almost doubled for truly CRAP coverage, any raise in the contribution level, especially the amount we are hearing, will truly bankrupt this department. Every single officer I have talked to who is vested has said they will freeze and leave, or retire and leave. EVERY SINGLE ONE! Think about it folks - we could see several hundred officers - senior officers, experienced officers, leave almost overnight. It's not a "gloomy" prediction, it's a real possibility. I've heard some say the BOC hasn't got the brains and common sense to see what a raise in the contribution level will do, and I truly hope the people saying this are wrong. We all know we will see some sort of raise, from 33% to 35% would be a good starting point, but ANYTHING over 40% or more will be the death of this department. I’m not trying to start a bad rumor; I’m not forecasting the worst. I’m simply trying to get the people who have a dog in this fight to see, the change needs to be based in common sense. I’ve heard people say the Chief doesn’t care, and I’m not an ass licker when I tell you he does. The Chief, and Asst. Chief Yarbrough, and Asst. Chief Gassner, all of them, have been talking to the BOC every chance they can to try to let them know what a disaster a raise in the percentage formula would be. Let’s hope they finally get the word into the right ear.

But his hair looks great... As for Gassner, Ive always liked her and I know for a fact, she just waitng out her time. What she got 18 months and it 82 % for da rest of her life....More power to her.

To:November 7, 2011 5:13 PM. Any officer that has lost thier house to foreclosure, deserved to lose it.. There are many ways while working for Dekalb County to make extra money.. And for you that have the criminal mind, I dont mean illegally... I dont give a rats asss what you say, there are plenty and I mean plenty of part time jobs out there to make ends meet..And with three days off get a second job outside the dept.. That having been said, Did the officer that lost thier house have cable, a real nice cell phone, real real nice bling car, so f=off with it being Dekalb County's fault. Its like the food stamps,WIC, SEc 8 and Welfare..I cant afford food, a place to live, but Ill driver up to the sec 8place with a brand new Escaladeyyy, 200 dollars sneakers, gold in mouth and around my neck, cable tv, a 500 dollars cell phone but complain at Public because the food stamp allows publix's bread and not wonderbread,, What a joke... Obamanomics at it best baby.. An officers that loses thier house, its that officers fault... I know for a fact, an officer at South Pct did not pay thier mortage for 2 years.... 2 years. Said could not afford it but it did not stop that officer from having a cell phone ,nice car and go out drinking all the time....2 years and did not pay the mortage.2 whole years living there and did npt pay anything. 2years of my mortage is $30,000 Live there for two years free and then just left... yea thier credit is now shot, but really, I mean really do you really think they care... But itsssssss Dekalb Countys Fault... Remember that officer saying if anybody else was having problems with thier mortage, they should do the same. Something like that, to me, would be embrassing and I certinly would have been bragging about it. Welcome to Obama way of thinking and doing. Well that Officer deserved to lose thier house and should never be allowed to own anything ever ever again. F--ing Slugs...

Lt. Rorey, http://www.gwinnettdailypost.com/news/2011/nov/07/occupy-atlanta-protestor-set-up-shop-in/ Really !

Okay so I hear there is a newly approved position for a WATCH COMMANDER in the DeKalb County 911 Communcations Division. Your pay would be somewhere around a Lt or Captain. You duties would be to oversee tape requests from Open Record Request as well as oversee the non-existent training throughout the 911 Call Center. You would get what few holidays the county still pays for off, a 40 hour work week, an office with a view and who knows--a take home car? Possiblity of overtime pay-STRONG! Who says this county is broke? Clearly approving such a wasteful position proves that they are not. So if you have pulse, you can apply for this future opening! If this was a move on the part of Wiz Miller, clearly he does not have a clue what this failing department needs. It needs bodies in the seats, operators who not only care for the citizens and officers but also for their fellow co-workers. Morale sucks just as bad up there as it does on the streets. If the citizens only knew the problems within the call center, they would be up in arms. Of course that is food for thought before you put put your name in the hat!

I thought long and hard before posting this and I said, "What the heck."This RIFF between DKPD and DSO really has to stop. Ok, so I'm patrolling in the area of Wesley Chapel at I-20 when I hear a 87/92 go out with NO OFFFICER 10-8. I advise the radio operator that I would be 10-76 until a PD unit could go 10-8. Ok, so by now you guessed it, I'm DKSO. Anyways, I pull into the address of the motel where the assault was taking place all to see a PD car sitting at the front. I pull in and ask was everything ok. The officer stated it was and that he was trying to see, "What I can get in to." I'm like ok, so everything was cool with the 87/92. He ask, what 87/92 I said th one that was dispatched. The officer stated he didnt hear it go out. Ok, no big deal, hell I have missd calls before. Yep, you guessed it, I once proudly dawned the DKPD uniform. Ok, so the officer and I go to the hotel room and the young lady is beat up pretty badly. The officer handles the call and pretty much ignore me the rest of the time I was standing there. Later on in the same shift a 53/69 call goes out at EPDL and Brockett Rd in an apartment complex. I was right at the complex so decided to go in and assist. I arrive onscene and discover security guards with a man on the ground. By the man was 28, and a 69. The security guard is giving me a run down of what happen and then hands me the license of the man. I run the license and all check out on his name. A short time later two officers arrive onscene. I exit my unit and hand the first officer the DL. He takes the DL from my hand and continue walking right past me, SAYING NOTHING, and starts talking to the security guard. I stood there on purpose for another 45 mins talking to the security guards just to see if either officer would say one word to me and they didn't. The security guards even asked, "Man you know those guys because they act like you not even standing here." Ok, I can hear people chops right now looking to reply to this blog and before you do let me clear up some things for you. Because I know what people are going to say so let me try and cover some o them. First off I served 10 years at DKSO, and had a pretty good career while I was there. I know when I was there I did not understand nor agree wit DKSO inability to handle a call or two at times. However, I was never just so disrespectful when I saw a DKSO officer. I'm not saying a DKSD officer should be kissing my ass when they see me. But a simple, "Hey man thanks for backing me on this call" would help. I know when I was with DKPD I always spoke to a DKSO officer if I came across one of them. I never thought I was just that much superior to the officer of another agency that I didnt speak or even acknowledge they were there. Now let shed some lights on why we don't handle calls. When the BOC established a police department many, many years ago they are the ones that deicded DKPD would be the main law enforcement for the county. They have established protocols all the way down to traffic stops. They are a lot of us they dont mind helping and often time does help with a call if we can. I truly hope that one day, little black officer and white officer can say hi to little white deputies and black deputies in a moment of brotherhood. Ok, it was my attempt at a bad joke. Please take this with you. Next time you on a call and a DKSO officer shows to lend a hand remember he/she is a brother in blue. Just for the record not all officers does this apply to. Thanks Mr/Ms. Blogger for allowing me to vent.

Well it appears it's happened again. We have an officer patrolling on-duty driving down Lawrenceville Hwy and some idiot pulls out in front of him causing him to swerve to avoid an accident resulting in crashing his patrol car. Now the head hunters are out to slam him by getting the black box. It's bad enough that we have to watch our backs from the perps and the BOC but now we got to do the same with the Brass.
It's time to circle the wagons guys and gals. This place never stops. Can someone please tell me why we're so out to get each other. Is this not a fishing expedition or what.

Anonymous said...

Why would they not pull the black box?

Anonymous said...

All I have to say is be honest if one of us wrecks. Because the brass know how to go about verifying officer accounts. I have heard there is a lot of information recorded in modern day cars especially since everything is tied to electronics. Be careful. Be safe. Drive accordingly.

Soliciting in the roadway is already illegal.... 40-6-97(b)...passing an ordinance would just up the stat from a 67x1 to a 99AR.

O.C.G.A. 40-6-97 (2010)

40-6-97. Pedestrians soliciting rides or business

(a) No person shall stand in a roadway for the purpose of soliciting a ride.

(b) Except as provided in Code Section 40-6-97.1, no person shall stand on a highway for the purpose of soliciting employment, business, or contributions from the occupant of any vehicle.

(c) No person shall stand on or in proximity to a street or highway for the purpose of soliciting the watching or guarding of any vehicle while parked or about to be parked on a street or highway.

40-6-97.1

Municipal or county governments are authorized to adopt ordinances for the issuance of permits for the solicitation of contributions on streets and highways within the geographic jurisdiction of such governments to charitable organizations registered in accordance with Code Section 43-17-5 and to charitable organizations exempt from such registration in accordance with Code Section 43-17-9.

It seems our commissioners are clueless (what laws are in place to combat the issues) as usual. Have ALL knowledgable employees vacated DeKalb County?

You may call me an literate moron, but I wrote my post the way I did intentionally. You must be “government schooled”, and not smart enough to be able to realize that. You did not understand that words were misspelled and slang was used so people like you would understand…… I don’t work for DeKalb anymore and was hired when you could not have a parking ticket, let alone a felony Hahaahhaa.. Is that your case… One question??? Which one are you.. The officer that’s kisses ass of the command staff or one that has lost his house because of Dekalb county hhhhaaaa. “

Every time I think of the dood hard working offiers of Dekalb Co Ga, I have a visual of Custer's Last Stand.

Line officers only have eachother!! Officer from North precinct has a stroke on I85 while working a 41, transported and admitted to the hospital monday morning, is in the hospital for 3days and our so-called staff down in the corner office dont call or go to the hospital which is a 5 minute drive from north precinct. A Lt. runs into Chief Yarbrough and lets him know how this officer is treated. immediately chief and his asst go to the hopsital but her own superiors(not superior at all)didnt go check on her. If you thought we hated you and had a lack of respect for you before, There is nothing but disdain for you now. This shows your lack of character, professionalism and intelligence!!!! Losers....

I think the poster @631pm typo'd and means "good" and I wonder also just how many arrows can Custer take in his back?

To Anon Nov 9 3:11pm....well well, another moronic post. At least I graduated and am able to post intelligently. If you don't work for this county anymore then stay off our blog; your misspelled words and illiteracy are giving the few educated officers that work here a bad outlook. I'm sure that someone on pump five needs gas so run along.....

But then again you propably charge suspects with loitering for drugs because your to stupid or dont know how to make a real dope case hhhhhhahahaa.. Ididt....Meant to be spelled wrong...

To Buck Rogers, get a clue. The black box only records three things, speed, braking and whether or not you have buckled the seatbelt. Now, I wasn't on this officer's 41, but from what the officers on the scene said, the officer's car was heavily damaged. Also, whether in your police unit or your pov, if you hit someone, they can subpoena your cell phone records (to see if you were yaking on the phone or texting at the moment of the 41) and the last record of the black box. Gone are the days when you could fly down the road in your unit, going no place in particular. If you hit someone and your speed was a factor, the courts (both civil and possibly criminal)are going to hammer you. Slow down.
