SO taking over PD duties I guess is all that remains to close the final chapter of this book.

DKPD puts some bad thugs in jail. Thank you!

I hope the Commisioners enjoyed their three day holiday weekend off as we battled against the criminal element in Dekalb County. Now remember fellow Officers as we come up on the Thanksgiving holidays to save extra money because your paycheck will be short yet again this time by two days. You will not get paid for the 24th & 25th of November. The said thing is that this does not apply to the Commisioners. They will again be at home enjoying the paid days off. HOW WRONG IS THIS ???????????????

I heard Major Harris out at Tucker is trying to get some of the bad apartment complexes shut down (the colony of stone mountain, brannon hills) and a few gas stations that sell 28. Can anyone share some knowledge on how this process works? It sure would be nice to level those complexes but unfortunately those people have to go somewhere and i'm sure they will be a pain in the ass no matter where they live- i support the major though 100%.

To the poster from 11-14 @120 am-

There is only supposed to be one unfunded holiday left which is the day after Thanksgiving (unless someone knows something I dont)

I hear Center pct. trying to copy cat Tucker pct. Higgy ain't got a chance because he got no skills.

The truth is bad enough, no need to give out bad information. Only the day after Thanksgiving is a furlough day and only if you're a 5/2 employee.

I'm surprised DSO hasn't done it already. It would allow DeKalb to still have access to these annexed entities via state wide arrest and investigative powers and in turn entitle DeKalb to some of the tax base. Larger agencies than DKPD have fallen victim to the same.

How about going to a 12 hr shift to give us an extra day to recoup some of the income taken from us via extra jobs?

I'm hearing from several different officers that recorders court is now issuing contempt of court warrants on officers who don't make it to court.

Can anyone confirm this?

Colony has been condemned but the evictions aren't effective with all the squatters there. Brannon Hills has been on the news for crappy living conditions (duh) but as far as I've heard no action has been taken to condemn it. Code enforcement needs to step in to get the ball rolling.

Why is it that my HAVING to work extra jobs to make ends meet is okay....I give the county forty plus hours every week... haven't I earned a little time resting or with my wife and kids?

Damn shame when full time jobs aren't enough.

Next thing you know, the county will expect me to pay them!

If they don't send me a subpoena, I'm not in contempt .... warnings, like seatbelt tickets, are rarely contested.

They will next year when pension and insurance rates explode once again.

The continued stress of this job strikes a Tucker Precinct Sergeant, who suffers a heart attack at work last night. Everyone pray for Sergeant Anderson.

Yep ole Higgy is running scared. He heard he might be going east or maybe demoted.
About time, we need a hard charging leader at center.

Ole higgy baby is just fine where he is!!

Why is everybody in Higgys grill?

Hargh!
No one can predict the stupidity of DeKalb leadership for the next week.
Some guesses can be made for next year:
Pre-2005 pension plan contributions will go to 50/50. (The BOC expect the employees to be grateful because they didn't raise it to 66/33, that will come two years later)
Five employees will be charged with fraud to the government and citizens.
One political staffer will resign due to allegations of sexual relations with a subordinate.
BOC will continue to refuse to reorganize the county or get rid of the bloated management that mushroomed under Vernon Jones.
Speaking of Vernon, he will be elected as the new CEO next year.
Brookhaven will secede because DeKalb BOC will refuse to negotiate with the Brookhaven citizens.
County taxes will increase after the election due to the loss of revenue from Brookhaven and foreclosures in S. DeKalb.
Commissioner Barnes/Sutton will receive a prestigious national award for leadership in government.
DKPD ASU will remain "grounded" due to lack of funds.
Funding will be increased for Callanwolde and the Rainbow Dr. Performing arts center.
I could go forever with this, the reality is that DeKalb politics will provide even stranger events over the next year.
My very opinionated opinion.
Best of luck guys and gals!

Funny how those that publicly condemn other officers actions have been seen doing much worse during their careers.

You must not know ole Higgy if you think he's worried about a thing. I'll give you he's a nut but he tells it like it is.

LoFlyer - I don't know what axe you have to grind, but if you keep spewing inaccurate "opinionated opinions", eventually even the ones who think you're their savior will see that you don't know what the hell you're talking about half the time.

How do I get into the make the ticket quota and get to go home for the rest of the afternoon. This is the kinda things that continue to make bad morale for the whole. Rewarding a few whose only assignment is to write tickets and generate revenue. When something goes bad and no backup is 10-8 I hope it doesn't come out that officers were at home while still on duty. Maybe you could patrol some after you make your daily quota.

I don't know anything about the LT and his situation. My issue is with the DeKalb Officers Speak. Your blog is extremely opiniated and negative towards those who you disagree with. You refer to the Occupy Atlanta/Wall Street people as Occutards. Even when a lot of there interests coincide with the best interests of DeKalb Police Officers. Employment..Pensions..government that looks out for the people..
You make it seem that this is a forum for free discussion and it's not. An unknown group of people control the topics of discussion and can delete anything that they want.
You also make it seem as if you are the voice of the majority of DeKalb Officers. You may well be but since the average DeKalb Officer does not post on or visit this site(no proof either way) you are hijacking the voice of many people that just don't agree with you.
The powers that be seem to think that DeKalb county Government and Citizens are POS except for the parts of DeKalb that are incorporating. Not realizing that part of the reason that these groups are incorporating has to do with Police services.
The powers that be on this website believe that DeKalb Officers should not live in the county because the county is POS. Okay, well one of the reason that apartment complexes have courtesy officers is because they realize having a police officer in the neighborhood actually helps to reduce crime. So if we took the guns and badges that the county issues us and showed a presence by living in the county we would be helping make DeKalb and even better place to LIVE and WORK. And very importantly we would represent a VOTING block inside the county giving us a real voice where it counts when it comes times for raises and etc.
I am proud of the work that we do in DeKalb County. I do my best to make my little piece of the world a better place. There are a lot of Officers that feel the same way. If you want to make DeKalb better then we should not be so vitriolic in conversation that we even tear down other Officers. How about some stimulating conversation that offers real solutions.
In summary, this website should be called Some DeKalb Officers Speak or Disgruntled DeKalb Officers Speak or the ones that want to leave should do so and change the name to Former DeKalb Officers Speak.

Dear Anon November 17, 2011 11:41 AM; "Your blog is extremely opiniated (we think you mean opinionated) and negative towards those who you disagree with". This is a very correct statement. What do you thing blogging is all about?

"You refer to the Occupy Atlanta/Wall Street people as Occutards. Even when a lot of there interests coincide with the best interests of DeKalb Police Officers." Not really. We are law abiding (for the most part), unlike the Occutards, and we are clean. We don't coincide with lace and scabies.

"The powers that be on this website believe that DeKalb Officers should not live in the county because the county is POS." Simply an untruth. We never said such. Point out the date we said that to support your comment.

For some one who uses a word such as "vitriolic", you should be able to spell opinionated.

Finally, we thank you for reading our blog. But if we don't fit into your idea of media, feel free to never visit our site again. But we bet you will, and when you do, please click on our advertisement; we can use the money.

Live in the county...... no thanks.... I am a full believer in the statement "it is best not to live where you police."

Have you ever had someone walk up to you at the mall ( when you are there with you kids) and ask " do you remember me?"... I have.... and I rarely go anywhere near Dekalb with my family......

Were you around when Officer Obester requested a POAP (patrol as often as possible) for his Dekalb home because a perp told him he knew where "he lived"....and if I'm not mistaken, showed up one day near his home...

Living in Dekalb ..... negative. I care about my family and don't know what I'd do if they were in danger because we lived in the county .... can you imagine them at school if I had to arrest or, God forbid, shoot a classmate or classemate's family member

If the BOC would only wake up and see why so many cities are being formed under their noses. The major reason written about after a municipality is born is the fact that they now get the level of police protection they deserve. The ratio of officer per capita increases to a realistic figure. Had our BOC kept Public Safety a priority, reasonable wages and proper staffing levels on the street, there wouldn't be so many officers jumping ship nor as many municipalities jumping ship! You can only mis-manage county funds so long before it comes back to bite you on the butt!

I would like to know if there is just one person that is not just 150 % thoroughly and completely disgusted with politicians? Locally, nationally and internationally. Politicians are the ones who caused the world wide recession / depression situation that we are now totally consumed by....by socialism in Europe and the complete stupidity of government support of Freddie and Fannie and the housing fiasco. We need to do something about the causes of all of our failures...disfunctional politicians. They can't even come to any kind of a deal at all in the so called "super committee" in Washingtion. Send them all on a rocket out of office in the next election.None of them deserve our support at all.

If I were on the BOC or the CEO , I would be talking profusly and publically about ways not to loose Brookhaven. Has anyone ever heard any of them asking how Dekalb can keep Brookhaven? I have not. Maybe I am deaf but if I am not deaf...the causes of Brookhaven and Dunwoody leaving are very evident. Fail, fail, fail seems to be the montra for Dekalb County GA.
Politicians disgust me.

So sad for you guys.

Since my retirement I have rediscovered the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Ooh that smell!

All S.O. needs to do is start handling any number of the pending 911 calls to curry favor with DeKalb voters to make it happen.

Ever notice how when the protected, POS officer gets promoted, they sit up on their high horse and micro manage everything. It is almost like they think that if they make their people miserable, it makes up for their being a slacker whose badge should have been taken long ago.

God I really dread going to work for my POS.

‘Mob' fight flares outside DeKalb courtroom

http://www.ajc.com/news/dekalb/mob-fight-flares-outside-1300812.html

This article along with the Brian Nichols incident really makes me question "Why are trained, certified officers with holsters designed for weapon retention.... Officers who will NOT be going into the prisoner detention areas" being forced to check their weapons every day at the Dekalb courthouse.... WHEN STATE LAW DOES NOT REQUIRE they do so?

The policy is up to the local sheriff.... Why does Thomas Brown disarm his fellow LEO's... a second line of defense.... when there is no reason to do so?

Time for the FOP, PBA and our Chief to start pushing for a change.
