This blog page was established so DeKalb County Police Officers including their family and friends may have a place to hold discussions, post news and vent without fear of retribution.

To the officer that caught the officers beating the handcuffed perp......GOOD JOB. DeKalb doesn't need more dirty cops. There is plenty of dirt at the BOC.
Not sure how officers are being trained currently but if you spit (HIV potential) in my face prepare to have force used against you.
Police work isn't a game of touch football with timeouts and rule violations called midgame. It is life or death split second decision making and people better wake up to the following: If you want elite officers to chase down and fight a rapist into custody so they don't rape your 5 year old then be prepared to back that officer when it gets messy. If not then go subdue these animals yourself with your verbal judo.
What happened to counseling for excessive use of force? Now you're charging officers for being human? NO WAY IN HELL I'd work for DeKalb and be at risk from these idiots.
My oh my... There used to be a line of respect expected to be upheld against criminals. There was a mutual respect between cops and criminals where as the perp knew not to cross that line verbally or otherwise or a trip to Grady was in store. This helped to keep officers safe as well as citizens by deterring criminal activity. NOW we are expected to let them SPIT IN OUR FACES? F*&% THAT...
Let me get this straight. I'm expected to chase down burglary perps, get them into custody without incident, then let them spit in my face or go to prison? I have a resignation to go type. See ya
Not too clear on the facts but if the officers actions were in defense of being spit on by the suspect (probable HIV carrier) then it is justified. If it was after the fact and they (officers) drove him (suspect) elsewhere to beat him then I assume kidnapping charges are forthcoming.
Most officers give what they get in return from DeKalb, the bare minimum. This phenomenon occurs nationwide as well once officers realize it only hurts them to go out of their way to make risky arrests as they know they won't be supported by their department, citizens, or a modern day jury. Just another reason guys to make sure you have PBA or some type of defense attorney on waiver. Prison time set aside they will be paying off the civil suit for decades to come.
Yea let me spit ur face and the snitches face... That way I could walk away knowing u won't do nothing handcuffed or not ... I depise officers like that ... Probably doesn't have a problem writing tickets... those two officers are probably the only j1's officer mcsnitch has made all year.
During Tebo's time here, they were just hiring people to have #'s. It wasn’t about quality but quantity. They must have hired 400 to 500 hundred officers. Only about 100 left from that time period and only about 40 of them are worth a shit. My hats are off to those that were good hired during that time and had to go through the academy with such worthless people. The others fired or arrested... Yes.... They just did not care who they where hiring. These were two of those hired. They were shitty officers and deserve everything that’s might happen to them legally... Thanks again for making DeKalb look bad. Glad I left and am no longer a part of this embarrassing Department….. “M Gone and Happy” and eating that green green grass made of Gold.
Not the first time DeKalb has hung its public safety employees out to dry!
I agree someone's AIDS infected spit headed for your eyes and mouth is just as potentially deadly as a bullet so standby for deadly force in response. If you want to act like a rabid animal I'll treat you like one.
I am not an officer, but I was thinking of joining dkpd, but I dont know.you officers are amazing for the ignorance you deal with everyday in dekalb.its totally unbelievable that someone can spit dead in your face, eyes,or mouth, and you have act as though nothing happend.and even worse, you can be arrested for responding back and now you"re considered the criminal.im sure theres going to be alot more cases of people spitting&provoking knowing an officer can be fired, incarcerated&sued which can become an easy payday for these pepetrators.i respect what you guys do but the stakes are extremly high!!
No sides to be taken here. Being spit on is horrible but, to beat someone that is in handcuffs is way out of line. How can you hate the officer that no matter how difficult stood up for the truth knowing he was going to catch nothing but trouble. If you beat someone that was tied up YOU'd be in jail... so why is it ok for cops? NOT!! If someone doesn't stand up for what is right then just as we have seen the decline of safety and truth it will only get worse.
You can't go beating up people just because your pissed! If that is ok for them then I guess it's ok for anyone.
Ditto to Anonymous 12:24.... good job...thanks for being true to your Oath and for having a sense of honor.
Once in custody, you hurt the suspect with the pen....you add additional charges. Hurting them via the pen is how it is done in a civilized society... we are above the "Law of the Jungle". Stooping down to their level is not acceptable.
Seeing some of your comments condemning the officer for coming forward is sickening. Yes, it was bad they got spit on.. but, they are in that line of work. The guy should of been charged with assault or even attempted murder if he has aids.. something. But, the officers made a choice.. a bad one. Out of their temper. If any of you had a family member that got pulled over for anything and the cop got pissed at them and decided he wanted to rough them up.. especially AFTER they were handcuffed you would be saying.. where is the justice.. where are the cops that seen this and didn't step in or come forward! Those officers are to be held to the same law they swore to serve under. They are NOT above it! They know the law.. they chose this line of work.. IF they were doing nothing wrong..WHY drive to where there are no cameras? They knew what they were doing and THEY still made their choice. Just like the thief.. he made his choice. The only one that really had NO Choice in this was an HONEST cop that takes what is right seriously.. so much so that his life is now in an uproar because of Two officers that CHOSE to do WRONG! Yes, he could have just kept his mouth shut.. but.. how many of you would say that if you seen something going on that is wrong and knowing it was going to possibly mess up your whole career and even put your life in danger would even bother!! Where are the comments of THEIR bad choice?? Where are the comments of good? No wonder it is so hard to do the right thing in this world.. it's because of people just like you! I hope one day you don't need someone one day to stick their neck out for you and them decide to pull a TURTLE ACT! Even tho that is just what YOU deserve. I pray safety over the good officers and people that choose to do right!!
What percentage of officers do you think would still be employed if EVERYTHING they did on duty was video taped or witnessed? Enough said...
To try and justify those officers actions is pure stupidity! Who don't know u cant beat a person in cuffs....if that's ur belief then do it and c want your ass b gone too...some of these comments justifying da officers actions r beyond absurd....let me see an officer do something like that...I'll report it too and wouldn't give a rats ass about being called a snitch...You officers who have left and have come to the defense of these officers thx didn't need u around anyway....This is beyond me....they screwed up and need to pay the piper!
Wow, a lot of ignorance here from who I assume are Officers. Listen to what is said during the news conference people. The Officers drove this perp somewhere to beat his ass while he was in handcuffs, after being spit on! To those of you who think this is okay, you need a refresher in the use of force and the Georgia Criminal Code. If these officers are lucky, the Feds won't pick up the case.
Yes, being spit on is unfortunately a part of the shit many of us may have to deal with at some point. Many officers, including myself have had this happen and handled it correctly. As another poster said, we use the "pen." So, instead of just adding a charge, now these officers are in jail themselves. Guess it was worth it to show this guy who the badass is huh?
To the Officer who did the right thing, keep your head up! There are plenty of Officers who will commend you for what you did. Your scumbag co-workers who judge you and label you as a snitch will all see their day of judgement eventually.
SURELY there were cameras in the car, on officers, at the precinct of all places. NO? Typical behind the times DeKalb. This will most assuredly come up at trial.
Chief O.B. explained it the way it should have gone down. Take action the second it happens. Not a 15 min drive to your Pct. parking lot? What were you thinking? Hate it for them, don't know anything about them. Might be good hard working guys that had a brain fart. Good luck to both of them in court. You know the D.A's office will hang them high. Worse part the perp gonna get paid.
This could have been handled better.
Brake check.
Let me just say this. After 30 years of wearing a badge I have given thought to the fact that some sorry SOB may spit in my face. I have tried my best to convince myself that I would remain calm and professional should this happen. Do I know for a fact that I will if it in deed does occur? Who knows????
But if I do REACT INSTINCTIVELY and give him a punch to the face. Then so be it I will write the report as such and take my punishment. Hopefully with a good supervisor and supportive staff DAMAGE CONTROL can be accomplished and my punishment will be minimum. Unless I am a shit bird Officer that has a history (then different story all together).
If you are an Officer and you can't see the difference between an INSTINCTIVE REACTION STRIKE, and a let's put the SOB in the car drive him around to the back of the building and beat him down situation. Then please do me and all the PROFESSIONAL OFFICER a favor and turn your badge in and find another job. We don't need you or want you in our profession. Because when you think things out and the results are wrong or criminal as in (criminal element of a crime). Then you are no longer one of us you crossed the line and became one of them A PERP.........
Blaming the officer that caught these two turds and turned them in, is misdirected. Seems to me that officer has integrity, which, some of you obviously don't. For all of you that want to finger him as a snitch, you need to google: Title 42 USC 1983. If he hadn't said anything and turned a blind eye, he could be charged along with them. These two are absolute turds and will make it difficult for all of us. The BS complaints are going to start rolling in.
You are entirled to use force to defend yourself or someone else. That being said someone in handcuffs can still be a major threat. I had one perp try to get my gun while he.was cuffed once. Did I defend myself? Absolutely. The problem in thia case is that hje officers were not acting in self defense at the time. They put the suspect into a car, drove him to a different location, and proceeded to beat him. Now this low life burglar is a victim. If they had utilized force at the scene to defemd themselves then they would have been justified had their actions been within reason. As it stands, their actions were stupid and reckless. Of they had scted.appropriately at the time, all this could have been avoided.
some of you guys are dumb as hell. Yes you get spit on the initial reaction is a smack to the head. You dont drive him behind a building then two of you beat him down. You guys messed up. Arrested I definately dont agree with. Forced to resign sure
beating someone in cuffs is cowardice, nothing less. until the cuffs are on, we do what we do to be sure to go home when were -42. but once the cuffs go on, its time to stop. beating a cuffed perp because they spit in your eye doesnt make the spit leave your eye, its just pure revenge at that point. doing what has to be done to take a resistant perp who has assualted you into custody is easily articulated and defensible. guess what, of the three officers involved, guess which one you can trust implicitly to have your back? heres a hint, its not the ones in jail tonight.
Guys & Gals...we all know the rules since day 1....Cuffs on...it's over....they spit....even a knee jerk re-action would be entitled....anything other than that.....you know is wrong....whether you've been here 6 months or 20 years...I think suspension w/out pay...along with another class on Use of Force (to document)....but j-1d????...we've got more serious problems within the ranks/department than to j1 on this....you know as well as I.....they just caught with thier hand in the cookie jar....you really want to know were the skeletons are???.....Presidential Hotel...Sex within the same perc. with brass with grunts!!!...and the beat goes on......think about it.
I agree this shpuld of been handled better. damn you selled out your officers. come on, he spat on an officer.....
we can do better, yall did not have to arrest them. Really!!!!
give me a break.. 'he spat on an officer'.. ya'll answer it's like the perp killed him. They broke the law.. last I looked we ENFORCE IT.. no matter WHO BREAKS IT. If we are above the law then the gp best watch out when we come to work in a bad mood. Oh yes.. instead of beating your wives just go handcuff a perp and beat him.. cuz that is OK! Give us a break. A good cop is a good cop a bad cop is a PERP no grey area.
Who is the major at south precinct? Sounds like he has his hands full.
Retraining for sure, but a felony charge and financial ruin with no hopes of future employment? You just made your entire department impotent. Congrats...
I imagine the payback was from Ellis to our officers. I don't believe for a second DKPD staff made this decision. Welcome to DC Mr. Ellis, GREAT JOB.
Anon 9:25PM, I think they only have a part time Major.
There were times in my past where I believed I was overly punished for things I deemed trivial. There were other times that I got away with stuff. Haven't we all? But, I believe had it not been for having strict, no tolerance-type parents. I am today what I was molded to be. God-fearing and law-respecting. And I'm thankful and proud of that.
What we have here is premeditation to commit a crime. These two officers did just that. I agree that an immediate, human-instinct reflex reaction would have been justified if only interpreted as excessive force later. I agree with Chief O'Brien that in a situation like that it could more than likely have been handled administratively. But a crime involves "criminal intent". There was a period of time for the "voice of reason" to intervene, and we know it did, that good officers would have acted with their pens.
Lately, we have officers amongst us screwing up, and some are finding out there can be serious consequences for their actions. I'm sick and tired of embarrassing headlines about DeKalb County and criminal or negligent actions of some officers within the DeKalb County Police Department. I feel this way so much so that I no longer want to be identified as one passively (in a uniform bearing the name). Instead, only if I am asked or have to verbally identify myself will I utter DeKalb County. I can't believe when I hired on over a decade ago I would ever feel this way. Thank God this act displays to the public trust that in this department there will be policing of ourselves. Because I sure don't see our elected officials doing so. At least, despite the black eyes, there is still honor and integrity within the ranks of our department. I commend the officer who upheld his or her oath since these two did not and I applaud the leaders of our department for doing what is necessary to preserve and rebuild the strict standards and discipline "I felt" this department once had when I aspired to become a part of it.
Anon 7:15pm, Perfectly framed. There is a difference between instinctive/defensive reaction and criminal intent. Of course most of the Bolton hires don't know or care to know the difference between either.
It looks to me we have more of these type of officers still with us posting on here. Okay, so be it. I'm watching. And no, I am not the same officer who reported this incident. Honor and integrity make the badge. Not the other way around as we can see. You either have it or you don't. If you don't, resign. I'm sick of you shaming my department's (DKPD's) name.
Where do we draw the line though? If the argument is that an officer falls under the same laws as everyone else, then what about not citing a fellow officer for a traffic violation? I know a traffic violation and assault/violation of oath of office are two different things but were is the line?
If an officer speeds in his/her pov, then that could be considered pre-meditation. If an officer fails to pay a mortgage and then contacts an organization known for breaking the law and being violent towards law enforcement, then that could be considered pre-mediation. If this happened on another watch at another precinct, would the same outcome have occurred?
Too be honest I don't know. I have so many mixed thoughts on this situation. But ultimately the thoughts come back to disappointment for the actions that smeared our department.
to 2:55 Im clear your not DKPD anymore. So how about you keep your retard comments to yourself. Or post them on your new job's blog. Also you can't like your new job to much since you contiuously concern yourself with our affairs.
I understand the feeling of it being a bit harsh on the two but, if they were a normal perp off the street you'd not give it a second thought. What follows is an important step for our officers. To show the officer that put his future on the line to do the right thing has to be shown support. This is separate from the perp and the two bad cops. The one stands out and needs to know we have his back and not to be made to wonder if he is safe out here! We have to make a stand that doing the right thing IS the right thing and the more support we show to this officer the more chances we have that others will do the honorable thing and not be afraid! Why should we need to be afraid of our 'brother in arms'? If you are going to need someone to be there for you THAT is the man I'd want in my corner. How the brass handle things and city handles things.. what the lawyers and storytellers handle it are all mute as to how WE handle it. Support this officer, shake his hand and not be talking behind his back. We really CAN become looked up to instead of being ashamed of. You need to be worthy to be standing beside this officer.. if not.. you really should find a different line of work. I am sorry the other two made the choice they did. I choose tho to stand for what is right. Use to kids wanted to grow up to be their 'hero's.. a POLICE MAN!'
The sad part of this whole episode....these two officers have had topics such as this talked about at their roll calls. Their lieutenant recently used a police brutality case out of New York to highlight the issue of acceptable practices and standards.
They were not ignorant of the department standards and expectations. Hate it for them but, they failed to live up to those standards and their oath of office.
I hope this incident doesn't become another RODNEY KING affair. Whatever the circumstances happened for these officers, will come out in many investigations.
Hope the FEDS do not get involved, but that is always a chance. I hope this doesn't ruin two careers. Whatever happens, these two officers will be not on the street anytime soon.
This job is hard enough, but when a perp decides to put his mouth in front of his brain, stupidity generally follows. This is the kind of world we all live in these days. It ain't pretty and it isn't going to get any better anytime soon.
Big Brother is always watching with his evil eye. We all hope that the justice system will take perps off the street, but that is seldom the case.
With all of the above in mind, lets not rush to judgement until all of the information is in from all sides, and keep our fingers crossed.
I have worked several shifts with Norwood and Parker and would go to war with them anytime. They are two Damn good officers that are being accused of making a poor decision. Everyone leaving comments on their character can meet me in front of 1816 Candler Rd or 4540 Flakes Mill Rd. I agree that unless there are extenuating circumstances the fight is over when the cuffs go on. There may be a training issue here. The rat did what seems to be morally right but if anyone leaving a comment here was there then you can turn your badge and gun in at 1960 W. Exchange place, then check yourself in at intake too.
All we know is what the news is reporting and I have been on cases and watched citizens give statements and gotten up the next day to see how media slanted the story so bad that I wasn’t sure if it was the same story or not.
Anyone who has worked south and caught a perp knows how the process works and how the parking lot is set up so when the perp that was being transported spit on an officer he and his partner stopped the unit and addressed the issue. Unfortunately a rookie pulled up and instead of assisting in further restraining the perp or putting a spit shield on him he ran and told.
In this case it appears that the budget may have helped by there being a car shortage Parker and Norwood were doubled up and had a second unit right there to witness and assist. It’s a shame that someone who has less knowledge, training and experience can corroborate with a perp on the way to jail and send two officers to jail.
Norwood and Parker you made a decision as you have hundreds of times, hold your head up, stand behind your decision and don’t change your statement. I trained you by example, keep the task at hand in front of you and don’t let the Monday morning quarterbacks discourage you.

I don't know whats worse.... being j1'd however not getting a kidnap charge (which doesn't make sense) OR not paying your mortgage, basically saying fk u to Gwinnett PD and Fulton PD and hanging out with 99% crew....
They broke the law, department policy, and common sense. Screw em, we dont need people who fly off the handle and risk all of our reputations.
Once again who is in charge at South Precinct? That place has gone crazy.
QUESTIONS? I have a few is the county going to drop the original charges? Why in the hell was Ellis there? Who ratted this out to the media? You can retain order but not making it a dog and money show this won't help in civil court anyways. Why was it handled like this? Is the honest officer going to get a good letter? Why weren't these two officers trained better? (while walking the perp simply slip) Old CID on memorial I had a few slip walking down the steps to intake that were cuffed! Thats why you had to have 2 detectives escort in case the perp slipped. Oh well and last but not least ELLIS you slimey piece of garbage when will you ask the FEDS to come in and find the recorders court money?
Look you jack asses, if a suspect spits in your face you smack the shit out of them. It's human nature no jury would ever convict you of a crime seeing how they would do the same.
Now with that said you jack wagons you dont ride the slime ball suspect around behind a garage an wear him out that looks awfully shady, do it in plain view and then stand tall and say yea I did it.
Now with that said Im equally as stunned that whom ever the tattle tale is did what they did. You have a problem then you tell the officers involved, now it's clear that you cant be trusted either.
I know of many of suspects who spit on officers, and I also know of many officers who smacked the shit out of the suspect, including myself.
People assume we have to be abused while at work, well the answer is no we can defend ourselves.
Go spit on the local cash register clerk at the Dollar Tree, and see if they dont react with a smackdown as well while jumping over the counter.
Spit in my face and I can assure you I will try my hardest to shove what remaining teeth you have left down your throat.
You bunch of pansies, this is why society is the way it is now days, out of control and lawless. If society wants to be protected then let us do our job!
Sometimes in order to control chaos in the world we live in, force is necessary. It;s just that damn simple.
Perp commits a felony, the charges will probably get dropped now and he'll get paid ... Crime does pay somtimes. Prep 1 ---- cops 0. Trust no-one.
TO Anon 10:28.. funny how all the ex DKPD like to come on this blog and crow. I guess things are perfect where they are.. Oh right.. they get fired for failing to clean out their mailboxes..and sit in the starbucks in Dunwoody whining like little girls because they have nothing to do.
TO the "Whistleblower"... couldve handled this another way.. always more than one way to skin a cat. Wonder when that blue order hits.. ?
To my fellow officers:
Don't let me down by putting me in a position where I have to react and act when YOU do something in appropriate.
When an officer shoots and kills a suspect... who is responsible for that loss of life? The Suspect because he put the officer in the position where he or she had to act. Blaming the officer who reported these two is like blaming an officer for shooting a suspect. The officer didn't put the weapon in the suspect's hand.... the officer didn't tell Norwood or Parker to circle around back and teach the suspect a lesson.
Put the blame where it belongs: squarely on the shoulders of two officers who made a bad decision.
Two officers who put another officer in a position where he or she did what they had to do.... These officers owe that officer and each of us an apology. If all turns our to be true, they failed to live up to their OATH of office and disgraced all of us.
If all turns out to be true.... good riddance. If all turns out to be true, they are good officers that crossed the line. They let their human, emotional side get the best of them. As professionals, we must be able to turn it on and turn it off.
Come on people... we took an Oath. Does that not mean anything to you? You should be upset and disappointed that these two appear to have crossed the line and brought disgrace to each of us.
To 8:32 AM:
Well said! Trust me, I clocked many a perp for that crap. These young guys dont know how to make the bad guys look as bad as they really are and have no clue how to make themselves look good.
To 9:13 AM:
A lot of us Ex DKPD on here worked there long enough in the really bad ole days to RETIRE. You have a lot more technology on your side than we ever did. However, in your race to have more technology and be the best, a lot of you forgot how to be (or never were trained to be) a real cop. We used to rely on our brains, then our fists and then our guns in that order.
And YES things are perfect where I am now.....a long way from Dekalb and NO.... I dont have to put on a badge and gun and try and make a diffrence any more. The fishing is good too. Play by the rules and maybe you can have this too one day.
to the 12:30 'friend' of norwood and Parker.. Goes to show that you will follow them over a cliff. Good to know just how faithful and STUPID you are. Great to know how you would LIE for your friends. Don't know how it would be if you had to TELL THE TRUTH and put your job on the line. I KNOW the officer you so dislike and I can tell you that that officer would be the first NOT the last to an officer in need or a STRANGER. Good cop good person. I know just how bad this has caused hurt for having to make a choice and deciding it was more important to do right than to do NOTHING. I know how this has caused hurt to know going back to work with alot of these officers will be tough. Not because of the decision so much as the IDIOTS that prefer to be Blind to Officers doing wrong. No one WANTS to cause all this crap when they have a choice. If you think so then .. well.. can't help you. Trouble makers might place piddly complaints and pissing contests but they don't do like this and be in a spotlight to make idiots hate them. That takes GUTS not anything less. Being a good friend is one thing.. talk to them be there for them and be their friend but DON'T lie for them! We need to see more people standing up for what is right. By turning a blind eye has whittled away at our justice system until there really is no justice! Parking issues? Please. Odd that when they turned this guy over to the uniforms he wasn't beat up. Odd that TWO officers had to go on a beat down behind the shed! If you's were man enough you'd say you'd screwed up and face what you caused. They made the choice that has us all in this mess. If that officer wouldn't of told and it been brought up he'd seen it.. he'd be in jail.. lost his badge and you's would be saying "He should of reported it" Can't make everyone happy so all you can do is what is right and be able to look in the mirror and live with your choices instead of hiding them and hoping no one finds out!
The facts in this case will either prove or disprove the officers over reacted and violated the law. This event is a tarnish on the badge and oath we all took.
What's worse is the comments on this blog. Maybe you people didn't realize it but having a badge doesn't make you special and above the law. Seriously! We still don't get that? Many of you are actually ADMITTING to VIOLATING department policy and most importantly FEDERAL LAWS. This is a PUBLIC FORUM and many others besides police officers read this drivel. You do realize that you are never completely anonymous??? If your identity became known could you justify your words/actions to the 12 CITIZENS on your jury? Please for the sake of our profession keep your idiotic statements to yourself. You're only validating everything "they" say is wrong with the police.
You want so badly to support these officers, then contribute to a defense fund or give them a call of encouragement.
I have known one of these officers since the day he was born. He is a good moral young man! I cannot believe he did what the media is saying! Please don't rush to judge them based only on what the media says! Wait for the full story to come out. The media is always biased wanting to make police officers look bad. It makes for a better story & helps to sell newspapers!
If the story is true, I don't condone the behavior, but I truly don't believe the man I know could have done this without some sort of coercion or intimidation. But to ruin a very young man's life with a felony charge while the perp probably walks, along with many many others, is just wrong! If it is true they both should be punished, but not with a felony! Risking their lives for ours for the past 3 years with the intent of many more years to come should be worth more than that!
Again, please wait for the full story to come out before judging, fellow officers deserve at least that!!
Send Ole Higgy Baby to South and you will see things get cleaned up. He crazy like a fox.
It is what it is. Now The perp is laughing his way out of grady and on his happy way to the bank. I think the officers were good officers who just made a bad mistake. Instead of whooping the perp ,add more charges on him.You won the game once he is cuffed and you got felony charge on him. Man up , u got your felony STAT and take his ass to jail. Also , south precinct has and still be doing crazy under the table mess over there so now the attention is on south and the garbage is about to hit the fan. To the officer who told,I wouldnt say good job, but well job because it could have been handled better and he needs to go through the chain of command. He should have stopped his fellow officers, talked to them and atleast notify a SGT if that. If he didnt say anything and the shit would have hit the fan, then a he would have been in trouble for not reporting misconduct of fellow officers.
I can tell you exactly why these officers were charged. Don't you guys remember the officer from East that snatched up that homeless guy and drove him to Rockdale county and tried to beat him down. The homeless guy fought back and beat the officer pretty good. It caused quite the cluster at the time. They obviously don't want a repeat of that.
I am a citizen who thinks it is REALLY REALLY odd that Burrell Ellis is there. Seems inappropriate - he's got more important things to do - like fixing the dam county budget woes!! Let Chief O be Chief, Ellis!!! Watch out for him guys...
Anon. 8:23 P M: Oh yea on the Presidential Hotel! If only those walls could talk. But then again, most of those who were involved have either resigned from the county, were offered early retirement or simply took retirement without any prompting from the higher-ups. And let's don't forget about those who Director Brown simply chose to take no discipline against. Such a fine Director he was!
If they did it.......
Its a guarantee Eric Holder and the DOJ pick this up and prosecute them.
In this day and age you can kiss both of them good bye..........
Wait and see......
Chief O'Brian please let Ellis know no one in the Police Department has any RESPECT for him...We can handle our own news conference and take out or own garbage. We don't need or want his help. Tell him to do his job and clean up the county at his end...It should be a full time job, if he ever gets around to doing it...If he wants to police something police up you own house..Plenty of perps down there in Decatur...
After reading some of these posts defending these two men (I will only refer to them as that now) and blaming the media for twisted facts, I was wondering. Did you all listen to Chief O'Brien's statements regarding this incident? I did. And I based my previous comments on what Chief O'Brien stated as "facts" in this case.
Question. What was the chronology of this investigation? Surely, it initially started out administratively. And we all know we are obligated to tell the truth. But, once statements become incriminating as to a violation of law, then Garrity kicks in; a suspected or accused officer must then be advised of their rights. You know, or should know, how the system works. Exercise your right to remain silent. Food for thought. Don't forget about this procedure. You may still loose your job but you may avoid prosecution or worse, more severe prosecution.
TO November 16, 2011 10:28 PM:hhhaa your funny....
I actually like Higdon. Send him East, the troops could use the motivation and humor that he has at times!
Kudos to Chief O'Brien for taking this stand. Looks like he is taking a page from S.O. and publicly calling out those who bring dishonor and disgrace to the uniform. This is a practice that Thomas Brown has instituted at DKSO and you haven't seen too many over there and when it happens, you mug shot is on the news and you are booked into the jail. Ditto for Fulton SO. I'm all for showing perps who's boss too and that's what my book is for. Your behavior determines your charge level and how many you will be given. Just like in a traffic stop, at times, its my intent just to warn, check ID and send them on their way. Some want to give lip, talk shit, then its time for a ticket.
Why did we let Lil Vernon speak about violations of county policy and state law by a DeKalb County employee? Pot, meet kettle!
For over a decade residents of East and South DeKalb have watched Uniformed DeKalb Officers sit in Corrupt Bars surrounded by Illegal Video Poker machines having "free lunches".
Just look at the neighborhoods around Cedar Grove Rd and Moreland Ave in South DeKalb. They have all gone to hell.
One cook told me how she spit in your food for seven years, she bragged about it to others. Another popular cook, hates men, lost all her possessions while locked up in Henry County and I am pretty sure she's spitting in a lot of food also, not just cops.
Besides Failure to Act, Violation of Oath and Income Tax Evasion as it relates to these "free lunches"; some officers on this site speak of how they are unhappy with voters in South and East DeKalb for their choices. Well, How About Your Choices ?
This Crap don't go on in Districts 1 and 2 ???
To ANON 5:29PM: Why bring up the Presidential Hotel? There is no one left in the Department that was involved with that, and 99 percent of the Department has no clue what happened. Yes it was a bad spot for a lot of high ranking people, but everyone got what they deserved, despite what you might think. Leave it alone, there are bigger, current problems today than bringing up 23 year old trash.
Mr. Ellis, how come when the media is questioning wrongdoing within your ranks you place Mr. Brennen to do the talking. When it is a member of public safety you just can't seem to wait to speak out. Just remember it may just be you on the indictment train one soon day. You then will hope that people will not be so quick to judge your actions. Handle things internally and through the system that is in place. Your desires to look like Mr. Righteous makes the defense attorneys salivate when asking for that settlement with the county.
TO 382E.....FOR REAL DUDE????? SO YOU SAY YOU TRAINED THEM BY EXAMPLE????,,, AND YOU ARE ACTUALLY POSTING THIS WITH YOUR UNIT NUMBER....ARE YOU PROUD OF THIS?? AND YOU ALSO STATED THAT "A ROOKIE WENT AND TOLD",,,,,WELL WHAT THE HELL WERE THE TWO OFFICERS WHO BEAT UP THE PERP, VETERANS?? I DONT THINK SO.... ACCORDING TO THE BADGE NUMBERS, THEY ARE ROOKIES TOO!!!! AND READING THAT MESS YOU POSTED, YOU PROBABLY AREN'T TOO FAR FROM THE TREE YOURSELF. WRONG IS WRONG. THE PERP WAS GOING TO JAIL, WE HAD ALREADY WON. THEY LET THAT EGO GET THE BEST OF THEM AND THEY FAILED. 328E, WHOEVER YOUR SGT IS, THEY PROBABLY NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO YOU MORE AND HOW YOU PATROL THE STEETS....AND IF YOU ARE A FTO THEY SHOULD REVOKE THAT ASAP!! YOU SOUND LIKE YOU MIGHT NEED SOME EXTRA TRAINING YOURSELF. PRAY FOR SOME KNOWLEDGE......
To everyone that is getting on the Officer who did the right thing when he told someone about the wrong that was being done. Would you have helped pay that Officer's bills when he would have ended up also getting fired for keeping his mouth shut. I don't think so. Just easier for all of you to say he is a snitch. IA was going to investigate that complaint after the perp contacted them. And trust me the truth would have come out. And for all you Officers that say "I wouldn't have told anybody" are the same ones who back an Officer on a signal 95 to a house that is unforced but still needs to be checked and observe another Officer pocketing cash they found laying around. Then instead of saying put the money back you look at them and say "give me half and I will not tell anybody." Then when IA investigates the homeowners complaint that their money is missing you all are the ones who attempt to cut a deal with IA to save your own ass and tell on the other Officer. So why don't you all lighten up on the Officer who did the right thing. I hate what is happening to Parker and Norwood but they both made a grown decision and now have to live with what decision they made.
When things like this happen to Police Officers is when the media loves to make all of us in this profession look bad to the public. Our job is hard enough already. Now we have to listen to perps all the way to the jail talking shit and asking if we are going to beat their ass while they are handcuffed. And don't think IA is not going to have to deal with a whole mess of false complaints that perps make now saying they were beat while handcuffed. And to all of you who call the Officer that did the right thing a snitch....Get together and take up a collection of money for Parker and Norwood. They both are going to need a really good Defense Attorney. I bet none of you all give any money because it is easier for you all to stay in the shadows talking trash about people behind their backs.
Parker and Norwood- Good Luck to you both. Bad decision, bad break, but you guys should have THOUGHT and you did have enough time to THINK and CALM yourselves down before you did what you ALLEGEDLY did. Now the rest of your lives may be adversely affected over that SCUMBAG PERP that you let get the better of you.
Everybody is going to have their opinion on what happened and who was right in what they did. The one thing I can say I see on this blog is a lot of childish unprofessional behavior by a lot of posters.
This site is available for all to see and I advise that some of you start opening your eyes to the fact that a lot of us are showing our true colors. It seems when the opportunity arises to bash each other, the flood gate of nasty commentary comes out with unbelievable force (like in this case and the Lt Rorey situation). When truly hard and serious issues arise that are going to affect us, our families, our livelihood and our finances, there is significantly less interest and effort dedicated to doing something about it. When it comes to bashing and gossiping, this site lights up. Its pathetic.
Recent headlines in the media regarding this department are not good. Ellis and the rest of those elected "leaders" of the county are screwing us constantly and we keep on giving them and the public ammunition to do so by our behavior and actions out on the street and on this blog.
So please, everybody, do us all a service and THINK before you act on the streets and before you post your opinion on this blog.

In regards to :Norwood and Parker you made a decision as you have hundreds of times, hold your head up, stand behind your decision and don’t change your statement.
It must be obvious to you that they lied. If you have told the truth on this WHY would you change your statement? Your a dimwit. Sounds like your very familiar with 'not changing statements' since you trained them better. Best to lie an stick with it. A lie takes other lies to cover it up and eventually you FORGET what the first one was. If anyone says don't change your 'story' then sounds to me that you ALREADY KNOW they are GUILTY. What went with you did nothing wrong so just hold on. Nope. That only goes for the one officer that did the right thing.
As to the person that says the officer did right reporting it but should of not went so high up. Let me inform you that THAT is just what the officer did. The one that it was reported to went running to the higher up. So.. now who you pissed at? The cop did the right thing and by your own words did the right thing by telling someone just up from them. They can't control who THAT person runs to and then they pull you in and say "Tell Him now". It was a forest fire that the officer did not expect. Just trying to do right and figured it would be handled in-house and NEVER expecting all this. Can't go back and undo it. I hope that the officer would still have done it tho. You all need to weigh what your saying. Not everything is cut and dry. Only thing that really is is the beat down. Sorta hard for a perp to be in good shape going into an officers vehicle HANDCUFFED and arriving with a busted lip and broken bones needing to go to the hospital. That is the only 'fact' that is in fact 'FACT'.
Stop being pissed at the officer that did right. Use your dern training on 'right and wrong' and look in the MIRROR. See if you believe yourself saying it. If you do.. talk to HR about reassignment to some desk job where you can't harm the public or your fellow officers.
Anon 9:25 and 9:45 South Precinct Major is too busy trying to keep up with his personal dealings with the female officers of his precinct. If he would get his nose out of their behinds maybe he could run his precinct more effectively.
First off I know the Major at South Precinct, he has never been involved with any subordinate officer. A few cowards get on this blog and say anything. You don't know whose family looks at this stuff. I can guarantee you don't have fact the first, but that doesn't matter. Cowards hiding behind a blog. Wow. What has the department come to. You must be jealous or you got in trouble.
Where does it stop?.... I've heard that question before and think where does it start is more important.
It starts in the Academy and on FTO. It is there that young officers learn from veteran officers that "you don't hold another officer to the law, you don't cite another officer, you don't arrest an officer, and you turn a blind eye to officers who break the law."
It is there that they learn an officer who expects himself/herself and others to also live up to their Oath of Office is to be shunned and put down.
Ladies and Gentleman, I've learned that performing above the minimum requirements and living up to higher standards at Dekalb will lead to a lot of heartache.....the Lieutenants and Captains will cut you down ... Dekalb is a cesspool of corruption and low expectations.
So where are the swift charges and/or disciplinary actions for Lt. Occutard?
how can we stand up for others if we can not stand up for ourselves?
To; 382E
Were you 382E the day your boys went down? If so, where were you Mr. MPO?
Parker and Norwood slapped around a slimey piece of crap that breaks into peoples houses and will probably become a murdered drug dealer one day. In a perfect, non-politically correct world officers like this should be heroes and commended for putting criminals in their place by the citizens sick and tired of being victimized. But they should have known, this is dekalb county. The department, the citizens, the entire political spectrum that makes up dekalb is against police. Therefore, I created my own list of priorities when I police.
1. Mine and other officers safety.
2. My liability.
3. Innocent bystanders.
4. Victims well being.
5. Suspect apprehension / punishment.
Unfortunately, this method is a great disservice to the citizens of dekalb, but it is the only way you will keep your job. Unless people change their entitlement, liberal mentality that is plaguing this entire country, this is the only way it can be. The county can't afford a 3 million dollar settlement by a liberal jury every time a career criminal gets slapped or a police car bumps another vehicle from behind. If the child rapist gets away, or the old lady murder flees, its ok. The main officers that get fired around here are the go-getters, because if the smallest thing goes wrong, its on you. There is no reward for doing great here. But always remember, dekalb is extremely dangerous because of all this and we are all we have to rely on.
One call at a time handled safely (with back-up), professionally, and cautiously (without rush). If that means 65 calls pending then so be it. You get what you pay for. There is no time allowed for tickets in this dangerous environment, sorry.
Thank you for your comments they have been very therapeutic. Please pray for Parker, Norwood, the other officer, their family and friends.
To tell you the truth,if I still worked there, I would have stomped this little creep between the cracks in the sidewalk.
Someone asked why Mr. Ellis was there well your answer is simple. ELECTION YEAR coming up.
