Should be zero tolerance. You drink, you drive, you get arrested. Doesn't matter who you are. We just lost an officer to a drunk driver. JUST DON'T DO IT

I suggest that police officers be very mindful of what that drink could cost after you leave your favorite watering hole and get behind the wheel; it could cost you your job and your freedom.
I don't know this officer, but I wish him luck.

GSP ...I will leave it at that

You must up hold the law on ALL people regardless of their position. That includes commissioners unless they are released by our little buddy. Ain't that right little buddyyyy? GSP officers should be arrested just like DKPD if they violate the law.

Just don't do it. We tell people that every day. You'd think it's a lesson we of all people would know by now. It's one of the easiest things to avoid.

Should have driven in DeKalb, we don't make DUI arrests. Just be sure you don't do 35 in that school zone because your ass will get a ticket. DUI's don't produce ticket revenue like speeding does. GSP wants to save lives not just be revenue agents. Oh, and by the way dumbass you should have known better.

Hilarious, that's the third person from my class to be arrested. 83rd hurah

I wonder would happen if a GSP officer was in the same position as to what would occur? Would it be brushed under the rug or would it be sent to court?

The public very rarely hears about DUI State Troopers, yet they do consume alcohol too.

The lackadaisical enforcement of rules & regs at DeKalb had brought us to this point. Officers feel as though they can do whatever they want from lack of discipline. If a supervisor fails to find policy violations routinely it is the same as an officer failing to locate traffic violations and citing the same.

Badge or not, DUI is DUI..... The officer made a mistake. GSP did the right thing. No deserves a pass on DUI.

Hopefully he can take his lumps and, once this is behind him, move on with his career. Tomorrow is a new day.

Ofc. Morale is a joke around here said...

It gets harder and harder everytime to do this job when you are constantly being embarrassed by the actions of officers making bad decisions its truly an embarrassment and another black eye to our already tarnished reputation as a department.

As a 18 year veteran of DKPD I totally support the Trooper on this. Our "Officer" knew better.
I best not hear any troop speaking negatively on the troopers action around me either.

Walking papers if in dead you were intoxicated..To many officers in my career have lost their lives at the hands of drunks. Not to mention all the citizens that I have seen killed. YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER. You did KNOW better you just thought professional courtesy would be extended to you...NOT..Good Job Trooper. To many ways to get home now days than risk driving drunk...Officer you should thank the Trooper yourself, he may have very well saved YOUR life, or the life of the one you killed...Think bout that my friend...

He won't get fired over it, there an many Officers driving on a work permit who have been arrested for DUI. Guess Chief O' is more relaxed on this topic than Bolton

I have a son who is a police officer in another State and have nothing but respect for the police but some don't use common sense. The average citizen is going to get the lower end of the deal every time. I had an officer tell me he had to issue me a citation even though there was NO damage to either vehicle and NO injuries because the other driver was driving a school bus, kept drifing into my lane and if a citation wasn't made she could lose her job. It is impossible for me to show up in Recorder's Court because of my responsibilities after school so I am paying a fine that I should not have gotten because of this. I was not given any info on the other driver, told to get the accident report and I could get it from there yet she was given all my information. I have already been in touch with my insurance company; given them the true facts; and wonder what chance does the average joe or jane have. NONE.

GSP will arrest anybody. Why don't we ask former UGA Coach Damon Evans? They know how to make cases, they are not into numbers games like local departments. I did a citizens ride along with one before, she told me her squad only makes cases that will stand up in court (Aggressive Driving, DUI's, etc). She made 3 arrests (one wanted person) that day. She added that the bullshit (tags, tail lights, stop signs, etc) is left for local agencies that are looking for stats. When you do real traffic patrol, you find some interesting stuff.

The DKPD officer mug shot needs to be in the news. Lets hope he was not a traffic officer as now his cases will be tossed. Law enforcement should be held to the same standard as citizens. You commit a jailable offense, you go to jail.

GSP is all about stats just ask the female trooper who got the hell beat out of her and will probably never police again all over loud music. GSP sux and to the 18 year veteran just tell me who you are and i will be glad to tell you personally. I thought police still had the right to write or not write a person. has discretion gone out the window all together

GSP are not real cops. They are ticket hounds and among non GSP come across as extremely arrogant.

And in the few times theyve wandered off of 285 and found themselves in my hood......... have never impressed me. They always seem "out of there element" and "over their head".

And Ill go ahead and say it............so they locked up an officer for dui. WOW! Way to go,,,, so much for departmental relationships. The whole world is out to hook us..............including gsp.

You locked up a guy who makes p- nuts. In a society where we all know all to dam well that if you have enough money for a good dui attorney and you drop enough cheddar .......youll walk. Oh yes Mr. GSP .....you did good.

Next time your hear radio say GSP just put out a 63...........make sure you run balls to the wall for them. You never know........it just might be Mr DUI a PD GSP. I for one am gonna give it 10 before I start rolling.

@ 4:46pm......you are an embarrassment to this profession and you should drop your badge and find a new job. It does not matter how much an officer makes; if you are dumb enough to drive intoxicated then you should be arrested. This job really is that easy, just follow the laws that you are sworn to protect. The day that any of us decide that we are not going to back each other because we have done our duty is the day that a decision has to be made as to whether this job is for you.

Ditto to 1:42 am.... Drop coffee your badge.... that badge doesn't give you the right to ignore the laws you took an oath to follow and enforce.

4:46... you are a disgrace .....

4:46 your welcome to meet me tommorow afternoon pick the time or place.I would love to hear your opinion on policing and why we should look down on the GSP.

Anonymous said...

To Anon 4:46..........my sentiments exactly.

I would not ask anyone to put their job on the line for me. That is what you are doing when you go out there and drink and drive. I am a trooper and hope this would not make someone hesitate to come to my aid if I needed it. I can give police officers breaks on anything else other than DUI and major offenses that would put my career on the line,

Anonymous said...

@446
Ur gonna give it 10 before you back an officer on a 63 simply because he/she may have arrested another police officer for DUI?

Did you by chance attend Senior Officer Gail Thomas's funeral? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no you piece of shit trash. Do us all a favor...eat a bullet. You're not worthy of the same air I breath.

@235 Based on some of the language that you use in your post it is very clear to me that you are not to fond of African Americans. (i.e. ghetto fu**, perp friends). You only tolerate us because you have to. You come into the county and work your ten hours and your part-time jobs then haul ass back to the suburbs. As far as Officer Vaughn not condoning what he did, always thought he was a bit of a jerk. However, I would say that the vast majority of people who drink have had a few and gotten behind the wheel. If you live in a glass house don't throw stones. I'm just sayin......

Anonymous said...

The point of any Officer waiting to respond to a 63 is disturbing

Oh and ghetto as well as perp can be any race "you big dummy"
