Anybody know the status of the bricks we paid for to be put in around the 9/11 memorial? My check was cashed a few months ago but I haven't seen any bricks yet.

KEEP THESE ISDIOTS AWAY FROM OUR PENSION !

I heard there are 125 vacancies? How short is dekalb on officers? Will they be able to hire with the proposed budget?

Wow, what A loser of a place to have worked fore (or to list on your resume).I left Dekalb County Government in OCT. 2011 and I still have not received A refund for my pension contributions. I have called and talked to the administrator and he has told me "Well you know how GUBERMINT WORKS" (SLOW). There Pension is A PONZI scheme BERNIE MADOFF,RICHARD STOGNER,VERNON JONES TYPE.You guys better wake up!When Brookhaven takes there tax money with them how is dekalb county gubment gonna justify 7900 employees that take a 3hour lunch everyday.Yeah thats right. Just try and get your money out of them that is why there has not been any layoffs, because the front line employee in all departments is payinn for all the retirees (and rightfully so, these people have given there life to the place)But you are all sitting on a ICEBERG that is melting under your feet. LEAVE WHILE YOU CAN AND TRY TO GET YOUR MONEY OUT OF THESE CROOKS.I BET IF ANY OF YOU LEAVE BEFORE YOUR TEN YOU WILL BE IN THE SAME BOAT AS ME.WHAT A GREAT PENSION YOU ARE VESTED IN 3 forths of YOU GUYS WILL NEVER REAP THE BENEFITS OF THE FRUITS OF YOUR LABOR OR SERVICE.

To anon 141pm,the county commissioners took your money, put it in the general funds and had a catered lunch with it. Does that answer your question?

Fellow Officers please check out H-3 ammendment on the February 28th upcoming minutes by Bernita Ranson. The link to the Commision meeting minutes are on the left hand side of this homepage.

Any idea what H3 says?

DKPD Veteran Officer said...

I'd like to know if there is any thought by the Chief, the FOP or PBA, to addressing the issue if our safety and security at the courthouse...

The sheriff decides who carriers a weapon and who does not. After the Brian Nichols incident, I'd like to see Sheriff Brown allow uniform officers (with holsters like we use) to keep their weapons in the courtroom and the hall ways.

I don't need to be in judge's chambers or the prisoner areas...and have never been there...... there is no reason for us to be disarmed. We should be a second line of defense if things should break bad like they did in Fulton county.

Just a little something that has bugged me for a while.

Anyone heard further on the inquiry results from Radar about possible take home cars? The last I heard if we are so lucky for this to happen they will issue cars to supervisors and current FTO/MPOs. Makes sense to me, put the time and extra effort in and get this incentive.

Anonymous said...

To anon 3:46
The take home cars are still on the table. The command staff is pushing hard for it, but what with the CEO and BOC pushing for an increase in their budgets, while demanding all the departments to gut their budgets, the outlook doesn't look good. If you read the CEO's letter to the employees back in January, he said he wanted to give non-monetary incentives. I haven't seen any specifics on this and I doubt I will.
One thing is for certain, the BOC and CEO still have catered lunches and take care of their staff at the expense of all the other employees in the county. It wouldn't surprise me that what with the increasing cost of gas, that they increased the monthly vehicle stipends they give to their staff. The perks are not found in the police department, they are only found in Decatur.
Here's an idea, since gas is costing us all a whole lot more, and the increases in gas will cost us all a whole lot more for food, why not let the employees buy their gas from the county at the rate that the county pays.

We need MORE 911 OPERATORS, we have calls pending(holding) everyday.Barely get breaks, running to the restroom and option not to take a lunch hour!!!!

Anonymous said...

Pension Board. DO NOT ALLOW ANY MORE BOC REPS TO BE VOTING MEMBERS ON THE PENSION BOARD> THEY WILL TAKE OUR PENSION IF YOU LET THEM> PLEASE PROTECT OUR PENSION> WE PAY INTIO IT AND IT'S THE ONLY POSITIVE THING ABPOT WORKING HERE !

Anonymous said...

Was that Higzilla on channel 2 hugging the perps mother that we killed because he pointed a shotgun at our Officers?

Anonymous said...

Take home cars.....

I heard talk of using the insurance money from the wrecked helicopter but, I see a new one on top of old 34...guess they found money for upkeep and aviation fuel for nit just one but two birds.

I'll believe it when they hand me the keys.

This place is the worst place in the world to work we will never get anything from the commissioners because they know how divided we are. We will never come together and that plays to what they want. We are separated into several groups, fop,PBS, white, black, CID, uniform, there are so many different clicks we are killing ourselves. When the pension is gone and you are 55 and have no money to retire with its your own fault.

Anonymous said...

I understand the 2012 Budget calls for county employees to take a 2 percent reduction in pay.

Anonymous said...

If we take a pay cut of ANY percentage, I'm done. If I get a call great. If I don't i won't move.

Anonymous said...

I would hope they dont reduce our pay. We are already the lowest paid Officers. Talk about a work slow down. This would cause a drastic slowdown I can assure that.

Anonymous said...

2%reduction in pay?....First I've heard of that. I just assume we'll see furloughs or loss of holidays instituted at the end of the year AGAIN.

8:39-good luck in your new career, what was you name again? Nevermind it doesn't matter.
@10:11-restroom breaks & lunch breaks, heard of them but I've never gone out of service for them..
@10:41-Amen...the BOC should never gain a foothold on the pension board!
@9:32-step away from the edge and hold up your stress card and a veteran officer will be with you in a minute...
@11:31-first I've heard of this RUMOR....

Anonymous said...

2/25 6:21PM it absolutely was !

So if you work East day watch you gotta put in a request for a leave day (vac/hol) two weeks in advance, or the requestt will be denied? Wow! Do we have supervisors who sit around and think of ways to make this place more miserable for employees?

Pension Board, how about our returns?

Atlanta's pension investments draw focus
By Russell Grantham

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The city of Atlanta’s pension plans have paid millions of dollars annually to money managers who produced about the same results as those obtained from low-cost index funds, recent reports show.

I have a bone to pick....

What is the current mission of ICP and NET?

How come the first and last stop after stop after getting an email from higher up, a commissioner's aide, or a citizen is the uniform team responsible for answering 911 calls and regular patrol?

Each time my major gets one of those, it is routed to the uniform teams. If it is a problem area or a citizen issue, would the first stop not be with units who were chartered to handle those things?

Weren't the ICP and NET units put together to have a designated unit responsible for targeting the high crime/precinct problems and holding the hands of citizens who want a warm and fuzzy?

They bitch about calls pending but want us to handle things that really fall under the definition of the ICP and NET missions. I thought ICP and NET were carved out of uniform manpower to handle problem areas and citizens that needed special attention.

I'm confused and frustrated.

Anonymous said...

H-3 is the classic bait and switch. Be vague when you come out with it, get them to sign it and then clarify the details; later. The whole 2012 budget will be that way. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if there is more than a 2% reduction, plus furloughs, plus pension increases, etc.
The news media needs to take another look at how the money is being spent in Decatur. Let's see if the CEO and BOC staff is suffering as much as we are. Betcha they're not!!!

Anonymous said...

I don't care if 1000 calls are pending. I can only handle one call at a time and it WILL be handled cautiously, correctly, and professionally. If that takes half the shift then I suppose the Lt will actually have to do some police work too. It's my butt on the line and not my problem this department has negligent staffing.

Anonymous said...

To the person complaining about picking vacation two weeks in advance, trying having to pick 4 to 6 months ahead of time. Do you know how spur of the moment family trips and outings that makes you miss?

Anonymous said...

H-3 says that maximum payout upon seperation for accrued v days shall be 60 days at the 2011 pay rate.

Anonymous said...

Here is what amendment H3 is saying people

Anything in your reserve account will be paid at your 2011 rate at time of separation(which was already clear)

plus

No employee shall be paid more than 60 days of pay upon separation no matter how much time you have in your annual reserve account and your current annual leave account

The author of this ordinance should clarify if this is 60 days pay at 10 hours or 8 hours (600 hours vs 480 hours)....since they like to play games with how they base the definition of a work day around here when it comes to holiday pay and the like

I guarantee you that the county will take the annual leave separation pay out of your reserve account first so it will be cheaper for them upon separation (which will negate any merit raises LOL and promotional raises you receive between now and when you leave this lovely place)

bottom line: To clear up any confusion that the county aint screwin you without any lubrication

ICP and NET teams exist to grab stats. Everything else gets dumped on uniform...and then they yell at uniform about stats too. Really these citizen complaints and problem areas are not that important because they don't generate tickets.

Anonymous said...

Soooo....I'm not getting my brick?

Atlanta Pension returns. Read the link. Are the fees we pay our MANY advisors getting us returns better than non managed index funds?
Maybe someone will tell us.

I think they are now concerned that those bricks may actually be used as projectiles by angry employees. That's right boys when you are handling citizens issues and BOC request we are 5 deep in a school zone generating revenue. Someone has to fund those catered lunches and getaways. I ain't losing my take home for not making my quota. Have you seen those gas prices now days!

DeKalb’s annualized Gross returns for the following time periods:
1 Year: 0.39%  (Benchmark return 1.66%)
3 Year: 13.92% (Benchmark return 11.26%)
5 Year: 2.74% (Benchmark return 2.67%)
10 Year: 4.93% (Benchmark return 4.40%)

Over all our fees for managers is about 0.35% or $3,500,000.

We have discussed at various times going to an index to save manager fees.

As you can see above the 3 year returns are much higher than the index returns. The 5 year and 10 year not so much.

Thank you sandy springs pd for my raise and for the bonus even in these dire economic times my department still gives a damn about me .

Anonymous said...

Dont tell me CATO is involved in this brick thing...

Anonymous said...

Mr Ed Wall...Thanks for the response and the facts. Responses from those in the real know are greatly appreciated.I know that you open yourself up to comments when you post here but thanks for having the gut's anyway.

Anonymous said...

I think we pay too much to financial managers for THAT kind of return. I think that the pension should review the entire management fee deal.

Anonymous said...

Sorry to inform you folks but they are using your bricks for building a new library.

Anonymous said...

Pathetic anonymous from sandy springs. If your happy there get your own blog. Don't brag about a raise here. You were probably one of the slugs that quit here lol.

Anonymous said...

It is sad that other Officers in other jurisdictions come to this Blog and make "snot nosed" remarks about DeKalb Officers and their working conditions. No Police Dept no where is perfect !

And no Police Officer anywhere in this METRO is being paid what he is worth !

All Officers must stand together for the Common Good, Sheriffs Dept also and that Common Good is to "GET RID" of Elected Officials as we have in DeKalb County and elsewhere that do not support fair pay and benefits for all officers !

With some luck and alot of hard work, you gotta do something, we get rid of Ellis, Gannon and Sutton and what a blessed day that will be !

Anonymous said...

You can't GET RID of perp elected officials who are continually elected and re-elected by the perp citizens of DeKalb County. That's why I'm moving my ass out of DeKalb...I'd rather pay taxes in Fulton/Atlanta than to give even more of my money to this $hit hole! Instead of not writing tickets, we need to write A LOT of tickets...put the pressure on the citizens to make some changes!

Anonymous said...

Dear Chief Embezzlement Officer,

I have an idea for your 2012 budget, you want to live within the County's means? Then stop wasting our freakin money catering $250 a day on your staffs lunches!!

Pack your lunch like the rest of the employees have to, get rid of the civilian staffs take home cars, or car allowance. What a joke!! You want to improve morale? how about 100 new cars to be assigned to Uniformed Officers and Sergeants who have been here 10 years and have good driving records! Oh yea then you wouldnt be able to afford the extra bar b que sauce on your steak sandwich or be able to wash it down with koolaid

Anonymous said...

Hey Anon 10:41. Do you actually believe every voting person in DeKalb is a perp???? Then I know for a fact you have removed the rear wheels from your trailer and you no longer date your first cousin.

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:08 -

Why yes...yes I do...because all of the legit voters have incorporated into cities (or are in the process of doing so). Who's left? A handful of law abiding citizens here and there but, for the most part, it's a perp filled county!

BTW, your insult makes no sense. My trailer is SUPER nice and hasn't been on wheels since the tornado of 1998. And my first cousin broke my heart...I still have her name tattooed on my butt cheek...right next to Billy Ray Cyrus!

We knew DKPD Major Felony unit sucked, but did you have to show it on The First 48. Sure miss the Lt. Stewart days.

All you complaining about East Precinct stats surprise me. I thought things were supposed to be better now that Steve Urkel, I mean the Major, is in charge.

Anonymous said...

This was just a matter of time regarding Adkinson. Holmes has been protecting him for long time regarding numerous other incidents.

Anonymous said...

Hey Wiz if ya can't be on time to the fallen officer dedication of the range..Don't bother coming, you aren't worth waiting for anyway. Like we believe you were taking care of such important business for the FD and PD that you couldn't get away. Yea right! Hey did Capt. Logan show up just before you did??? Hmmmmm.

Anonymous said...

Things are better at East Precinct.

signed, Urkel

It is obvious that you do not know Major Reynolds well. One thing for sure is he is not about stats, but he will not allow a slug to hide inside his precinct. Therefore, we appreciate him identifying the slackers and holding their feet to the fire. If you have the time, sit down with him for a conference, you will be surprised of the knowledge gained.
