Hey Wiz if ya can't be on time to a memorial dedication for an officer that gave his life for this county. How bout ya just stay away. It's not like anyone there thought you were soooo busy doing our business, and that's why you were late. Really you think we believed that lame excuse. Since when you so dedicated to conducting business for the good of PD or FD...? Shame the family had to wait for you to make your entrance...Chief ya should have started on time. You were capable of handling the dedication. That's why dept. is going down the drain, it's all about them!!!

The dedication yesterday was about Step and noone else. AJ-you did a great job on the memorial and I know how hard you worked to make it happen. Step will always be remembered and I'm glad I was there yesterday to see the tribute.

None of the local news sources that I checked with were notified of this event until the morning of the dedication.

It was great working along side Step. Well deserved.

Heading to "The Step" to plink off some rounds. That's gonna sound pretty damn cool.

We Miss You, R.I.P Brother!

It should of been a dedication to all the fallin officers in dekalb county.

Vernon Jones brought these Katrina perps to DeKalb County. They were all THUGS looking for federal housing and care.

All they did was increase our crime rate.

Very well deserved for this outstanding officer who gave his all for the protection of the citizens of this sorry county. I only wish it was another county that appreciated its officers as Dekalb does not.

As a retired officer, I know what it means to lose a fellow officer as I have attended too many funerals of brothers and sisters over the years of active duty and also since retirement.

I understand the memory and the grief of the family members as I have also experienced the same. Life is very precious and sometimes, very short. The scumbags that the active officers put in jail these days do it because they love their jobs. They were not in for the money. They are and were in for the satisfaction of knowing that they could make a difference.

It is a shame that some higher ups in the government think that their titles prevent them from attending a dedication for some of the dumbest reasons. But after all, these people have no business being in the position that they are in, in the first place. They were put their because of ass kissing and friendship.

So "STEP" rest in peace my brother as you will never be forgotten and will be remembered as a very well respected and fine officer.

Well done to all that made this happen. I would like to see more of this honoring the real hero's who made a difference and gave a damn, rather than honoring living politicians who would frack-up a wet dream.
I note that it appears that commissioners Boyer and Rader was present. No CEO or Director Miller.
I would comment upon their whereabouts but y'all already know the answer to that one.
Best wishes to the Sergeants family!
Thanks guys and gals!

Well deserved. I didn't have the chance to work directly with Step but was fortunate enough to see him at Center.

As a rookie, I really appreciated the time he took to say hello, answer questions and just be there. He was always a breath of fresh air when I saw him at 34 and on the streets....I can't tell you how many times he stopped to check on me during a traffic stop on Memorial or Covington Hwy. It was always comforting to see him drive up. I knew he had my back and all our backs.

RIP...a fitting tribute to a good officer.

Sgt. MO Miller #2263

ANON 3-9-12@1027am.......There is already a memorial for "all" the fallen Officers in Dekalb County, its in downtown Decatur on the square, maybe you should go check it out some time. They dedicated the range to Step because he spent so much time there in his career. No need to reply rook!

Proud to have worked North Precinct with Step and again in CID, do miss that friendly smile. Why would anyone expect Ellis or Miller to bother showing up or showing up on time. By the way Obama has never shown up for the National Law Enforcment Memorial Day and he is the ONLY president to never show up, he attends a baseball game instead. Go figure

At Loflyer, I don't recall seeing Boyer or Rader there at all. CEO was not there, but Wiz did show up.......late. Honestly, I was hoping none of them would have been there at all.

The fact that the county is naming parks and firing ranges after fallen officers is a nice gesture. What I think would be a nicer gesture would be to actually prosecute the individuals responsible. Step handled his murderer in his final act, but tell me this; Why is William Woodard still awaiting trial? He killed Barker and Bryant over 3 years ago and has yet to go to trial. this whole county could give a flying funk about each and every one of us who wears a badge so watch your 6 boys and girls, God knows no one else is gonna.

Woodard's trial is being held up by a "Sack of Shit."
