Shameful!

This is a prime example of how far this department has lowered it's standards. This man should have been fired for his first violation of the rules. Not only should he be disciplined for violating policy, he should be prosecuted. Better yet, he shouldn't have been hired in the first place. Wouldn't it be wonderful to see his background information?

Are we hurting so badly for officers that the department is willing to allow persons of this character to remain employed here? Didn't we all take an oath of office to protect the citizens of DeKalb County? By allowing Adkinson and others that fit into his mold to remain employed here, is that not a violation of oath by our command staff?

Please don't do us any favors by simply putting body's on the street. We would rather take our chances being short handed, knowing the officer coming to back us can be depended on.

It even may be time to consider having an outside agency investigate the entire department.

These actions by Adkinson and the department have become all to familiar.

This guy should have been fired or demoted, yet I sat next to him as he was allowed to take the last test for promotion to Leiutenant. Once again the testing process reveals itself to be unfair and very simular to that of the Atlanta Fire Department. I bet we will have the same testing procedure again because it is easy to be manipulated.

I no longer work for Dekalb but this guy also used our company credit card and charged up personal items to the tune of 5,000.00 dollars. I was close to reporting him for that but he eventually paid. The funds he repaid with probably came from the money he stole from his part time job.

DeKalb county pd has been taking a nose dive for many years now. It all starts at the hiring process. When an agency is forced to hire incompenate people due to people not able to pass an entry exam, so the exam is then designed for the stupid to pass. The cycle then starts in promotions. Incompenate people now get promoted to sgt, lt, capt, etc. and the whole department just goes down hill from the top down.

I'm not well versed in how it works. Question to those of you who are very familiar with employment law. Taking his previous write-ups (most under terminating offenses) into consideration, if the sexual assault victim wanted to sue, being that she felt threatened not to come forward earlier. Could the county be held responsible for negligent retention?

Great story. Compelling and rich.

Possibly, but it would be a long shot. Nothing in his background about witness intimidation.

If he did this then he should resign in disgrace. IMHO "desk duty" sounds like he's in the chair and they are just waiting on the official switch flipper to arrive. But getting back on point and looking at this story I kind of have a different perspective on this. Lately it looks like DeKalb is no longer pushing stories "under the rug". It's my understanding that the media got this story when the PIO faxed off a news release revealing this incident. I think many officers need to stop and realize that other fellow officers are investigating this claim and they will take the appropriate action whether arrest, referral for state/federal indictment or simply termination. You can bemoan DeKalb but every agency has its problems and we could start at Dunwoody and work all the way down to Lithonia detailing their numerous embarassing news stories and rumors. DeKalb now looks to be taking actions that will pay off with greater public trust. I think DeKalb is professional enough a department to take a few lumps while it repairs the damage done by Chief Graham and Bolton. DeKalb Police still have my confidence.

Large departments always have perps, thugs and fuckups called police officers. Some, never get caught. Must do. things havent changed, the media attention is more direct.
I am a retiree and had a blast working for DKPD but the PD always enforced chicken-shit rules that only were enforced when it was convenient or when the wind changed direction.
Have you guys and girls forgot about a lieutenat that was promoted to lieutenant while he was on probation fron Gwinnet County for obstruction of a police officer stemming from a spousal abuse call, or a lieutenant whose wife was killed with his gun during a dispute and ruled a suicide and when the first gwinnet officer arrived on the scene, there were white shirts from DKPD there contaiminating the scene, (before that incident the lieutenat had a horendous alcohol problem and broke all the rules before this) how bout the the retired major that beat up his wife in the south precinct parking lot and left the scene striking his wife's CID car with his CID car. This same officer was allowed to take the lieutenants' test while he lost his POST certification for his family violence battery conviction that was pardoned by the great Governor Zel Miller, or the Colonel's son that had horendous problems with alcohol, was protected by his father, and died of a DUI 41 off duty, after being placed in the traffic specialist unit, or the current lieutenant that had a stolen license plate on his CID undercover car, another lieutenant that retired with honors and never got suspended when he shot an officer in the back vest plate with with a hot round during a swat exercise and later shot another officer in swat situation - he was a good guy but never had to pay for these horendous mistakes where a patrolman would have been hammered, or the major that retired and was promoted to captain shortly after he accidently shot a recruit in the leg while that recruit's was going through felony arrest scenarios. This officer never got suspended.
Or the great lieutenat that died while doing the wild thing with the captain of homcide's wife. Have you guys and girls forgot about the good ole boys click. How strong it was and you were either in or out and being in usually meant severe ass-kissing. Remember the old tact unit, you could not get on the unit unless you had a special talent not related to police work.

So please! The average dekalb officer outworks any other officer from any other jurisdiction by 10 to 1 in call volume, paper work, dangerous calls. Look out for these troops. They are the ones that will come to your 63 and be there when needed.

Damn 1:49am, you really put that out there...the crazy thing is..I KNOW EXACTLY who you are referring too!!! That was some good ole juicy shit back in the day!!! I think we as a department need to be more structured like the military, honor code, moral code, human being code!! I for one am making it my personal duty to be the best human/officer I can be!!!!

Well If Dekalb actually promoted based on how good of a cop they were instead of race, sex, relationships this wouldn't be as embarrassing. Not only that, but its embarrassing to the entire ranking staff at Dekalb, because it makes people wonder how you got where you are and they know its probably not from how good of a cop you are. Sad really.

And the "eight captain deal" before they screwed the rest of us for 10 years of no promotions and affirmation and concent decrees. All the big boys best buddies got theirs and the rest of us got screwed good....and the Sgt in the chiefs office who was on the Lt's test making criteria for "extras" to decide who got promoted to Lt. Military service was excluded because " not everybody on the list had the opportunity to serve their country",in other words, there were a couple draft dodgers that the wanted to ride the train.

You know if from day one people stood up and treated people fair and not judge them by skin color. We would be better off. This is why certain systems had to be put in place. And can you tell me this. Who has benefited more from affirmative action? You people should do your research before you post. Facts v\s Opinion. Facts prevail everytime. You can google anything today. Try it you will learn something.

Seems to me you have very high expectations of yourselves, cuz this exact same shit goes on in the civilian world.

Anonymous said...

It does go on in the civilian world. We're supposed to investigate it and prosecute it, not copy it.

1041: I was talking about all the fornicating and promotions based on who you know, not what you know. It's where the 'Peter Principle' came from. Anything outside that, certainly illegal, should carry the same penalty as anywhere else.
