Close Call In South Precinct

By Alexis Stevens The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

One person was in critical condition and an alleged gunman was in custody following a shooting Wednesday afternoon in DeKalb County.

A DeKalb police officer also was fired upon, but the bullet apparently struck his gun belt and he was not injured, police told Channel 2 Action News.

The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. at Gulf American Inns on Flat Shoals Road near Decatur, according to police.

After finding a shooting victim in the parking lot, officers chased a man with a gun, who was later taken into custody, police said. The victim was taken to an area hospital.

The names of those involved were not released.

Thank Goodness he is alright... damn good officer... But the truth of the matter is the preps don't care if you pd or not now so be careful. Also, that officer took the shooter into custody... GOOD JOB!!!!

Thank GOD that officer was able to go home to his family. The officer is a good friend of mine and very hard worker. But in DeKalb, that perp will be out by the weekend taking aim again at another officer. I would only hope next time he decides to shoot at an officer, he is put down the the animal that he is!

Glad the Officers are ok. But, why in the hell is the Gulf American in still in operation?
I policed that craphole back in the late 90's. We locked up everything walking around that place. That hotel and that gas station next to it needs to be demolished.
Make it a damn garden or something.

I was out at that motel in similar circumstances a few months ago where a drug deal went bad and we were close by when it went down. The only difference was the perp missed the other perp when he shot at him and we caught all of them, luckily, without further incident, UNlike yesterday. Of course no one talked, and most walked away, except for one or two wanted for armed robbery out of another county.

Thank GOD that the Officer is doing well and can go home to his loved ones. A "file" is being kept on the Gulf American Inn at South Precinct (yes...again) to document (again) illegal activities and arrests. My question to the powers that be....WHEN IS THIS PLACE GOING TO BE FORCED TO SHUT DOWN? HOW MANY ARRESTS, SEIZED DRUGS, AND SHOOTINGS ARE ENOUGH?
DO WE AND THE CITIZENS OF THAT AREA HAVE TO KEEP WAITING FOR ANOTHER DEAD BODY OR EVEN WORSE, A DEAD OFFICER?

Anon 9:11 really? The prep will be out by the weekend whooo whoop. Its stuff like this people read and believe. I'm glad the officer is ok. All the silly comments should be kept to yourself.

The perp was still alive? Well damn. Guess you can't have everything. Excellent that our brother is alright, and good that the perp is in custody. Dead would be preferable, but as long as all the good guys went home safe I can't complain.

12:35, you clearly missed the humor in that comment. Your days of making cases are way behind you huh? And as for 'people reading and believing, it doesn't take your shinny gold badge to see that PD the only ones reading this blog. All the b*tching and complaining you do on here about our Command staff and BE, our citizens don't know nadda about our blog...
