i know your department has a lot bigger problems, but i have to say as an outsider looking in, it seems that mekka parish had to have someone look out for her to get that job. considering her only job is to speak, she is not even an average speaker, she says uhhh and ummm more than an athlete.

I have counted 5 or 6 supervisors that have been arrested or fired in that last few months. When are we going to change our flawed promotional testing process. The current process does not yield the best supervisors. Instead we are promoting Officers with no experience who are bringing down morale and placing Officers at risk every day.

Hey I notice everytime DeKalb is on the news, there is some caveman trying to assemble a sentence. Then I find out it's the public safety director. Let me just say this, DeKalb USED to be the place to train and leave. As things have continued to play out, DeKalb is now going to be a questionable asset at best. We all tend to resist change, but if you do take the time to upgrade now, it will more than pay you back in the future. Just sayin.

Regarding Robert Shane Wilson:
27 years old. Yet he accomplished so much as he dedicated his life to keeping law-abiding citizens safe. His loss, and the loss to his loving family, breaks my heart. I didn't know him. I don't live in Doraville. But as a citizen, I can only thank him for living his too-short life in such an honorable way. And I can only hope that the selfish, meaningless life of his killer is spent reflecting on how he can serve as a lesson to others like him. He extinguished the life of someone who really mattered.
To Wiz Miller: What the hell took you so long?????

I am not a police officer, don't really know any police officers and don't have any officers in my family. That being said, I'm a proud citizen of DeKalb County. I have more respect for the officers that work in my county than any other profession and my heart goes out to those that protect and serve us. All this stuff on the news about corrupt officers makes me sick. It's not all of you guys. And to the supervisor and officers that were arrested for showing that young thug a little street justice, y'all did what y'all used to do to keep things right around here. These neighborhoods around here are out of control because these kids think they can boss the streets without repercussion. I remember a time not long ago when DeKalb was a safe place to live because the police had it handled. It's not that way anymore. Y'all are not allowed to be real police. Y'all are treated bad by everyone and have become DeKalb County scapegoats. It's not right and I'm mad as hell. Y'all keep doing what you do and know that there is atleast one citizen that loves what you do to keep her safe.

To 7:06, Thanks for your support and we hate crooked cops more than you do, believe me it is true. I estimate that less than an eigth of a percent of the officers in Dekalb are bad but that goes a long way in making the rest of us look bad. Our message to them is leave now because you will be found out and ratted out.

Anonymous said...

The ray of light with this is that in many cases, the crooked cops were called out by fellow officers. That sends a loud message from the legitimate officers who are here to police, hey, not under my watch. The old adage was that officers turned the other way when their brothers/sisters broke the law; now people are opening their mouths.

Many agencies have done the Sheriff Ted Jackson and Tom Brown approach, "if you are in uniform and break the law, you will be arrested, booked into our jail and your mugshot will be released to the public. Unfortunately, some officers forget which side of the bars they belong on, well we will help them figure that out."

No one asked me how my take home car has been doing. Well all is well with her, starting to get a few miles on the old odometer and losing that new car smell. Did put a few miles on my pov the other day but that was just to keep the tires from getting flat spots. Saw the price of gas the other day and wow don't know how you guys do it. Part time jobs are much easier with the air on high when it is 90 degrees. Get me a few more ticket books because I think I'm hooked!

As 7:20 Anon said and I second... THANK YOU 7:06.

There are still a vast majority of officers that have integrity, work hard and like coming home at the end of the watch with a sense of accomplishment.

I have to say though... the department is a mess. Good officers do what they have to and spend the rest of their time doing what they can to stay under the radar. Do anymore, you risk making an innocent mistake or pissing off a VIP...then running afoul of white shirts that are quick to put paper on officers or suspend them just to say they are doing something. The only time you see most white shirts do something is when they need to insure that the spotlight stays off their lazy, office bound asses. Accountability stop at the uniform level below lieutenant. Even the sergeants walk on egg shells.

For the most part, we're secretaries with guns who write reports for the insurance companies.

Gold Badge said...

What ever happened to Chief O's round table meetings with the sergeants and the lieutenants?

If they ever make a return, I'd like to see them with just the sergeants and possibly MPO's with ten years.

Any word on how those "Very Important, Had to be turned in ASAP" Officer Retention/Take Home surveys were used or received?

LOL...as predicted, another attempt by the brass and the county to say they're doing something to stem the mass exodus of officers from Dekalb.

3:40 you are an arrogant ass, and what you have will not last. Enjoy it for now. How dare you have such an attitude. I am not employed by DKPD, nor do I have any relatives employed by DKPD. I am a citizen who knows a few DKPD officers - brass and otherwise, and appreciates the fact that there are some very special human beings like them and others who are humble, law abiding, and sacrifice their lifestyle to keep us safe. God Bless them, because without them, where would we be? How dare you taunt the good, kind men and women who don't have what you have, who have chosen to do what they do for reasons that you will never understand? You don't deserve what you have. You are not a real officer, because a REAL officer would never speak like that.

JWilson said...

I share the same thoughts 7:06 I'm in HS in Dekalb, and in a couple years I plan on joining the DKPD. I ignore the crap I see on TV, because I know that about 50 percent of what they show regarding law enforcement is just that, crap. I know DKPD's got it's bad apples, pay aint that great, and you guys really do have some morons in high places. But some months ago some lazy jackass that instead of using his time to go to school and become a well contributing part of society like I do and not a waste of prison food and shelter decided to try to break into my house while I was in it. I grabbed my Co2 BB gun that shoots metal BBs (Wont kill you but hurts like a bitch), went upstairs and called 911, the operator was very calm even though I felt myself getting excited as I watched the guy climb onto my back porch from the upstairs window and calmed me down. I guess he had ESP, because he knew either A, he would be caught by police, or B, he would get a mouth full of BBS, because he jumped off the porch and went around my house back to the street. The officers got there in no time and detained him and his two lookout buddies and questioned them. Then a Lieutenant, didnt get his name, or badge number to thank him and his officers, came and asked me a few questions. He was really cool with me and told me straight up, they probably weren't going to be arrested because he didnt actually try to force entry, which I figured as much, and I started to kick myself when I realized that I left my BB gun (Which didnt have an orange tip) was sitting on the arm of the couch two feet away, he just asked if it was real or not and whne I said ' Nah I just got it to scare him' he replied, well you should probably just tuck it away somewhere while we're here, which I fully understood.

tl;dr? The point is, that is my view of the DKPD, the calm, cool, and in-control officers I see and drive past on a daily basis. I dont give a shit what people say, or what people do. How many times do politicians fuck up? Yet when a police officer fucks up, people quickly forget that everytime they put on the badge, they put a target right over their hearts. Thanks for all your Service. Hoping to serve alongside you.

I think years from now all Dekalb officers (and maybe even a few residents) will look back on the events of the past 20 years and understand that what happend in Dekalb County was a takeover by the criminal element. Maybe DeKalb County will survive, and maybe not. Maybe it will rebound and the criminals will be forced to leave, who knows. But one thing is for sure, all the crap that has happened over the past 2 decades didn't happen because of misguided priorities by good meaning people trying to help. What started as a social experiment in DeKalb that went horribly wrong turned into a complete criminal takeover by crooked politicians using race to bait ignorant voters into handing them the whole county so they could use thier elected position for personal gain.
Now we are reaping the rewards of misguided and gullible voters and we will for years to come.
Not stuff that into your pipe and smoke it!

Just an old cops perspective.

As a former Dekalb Officer from 1997-2001, THANK YOU for that post. Much needed at this point.
I'm sure my Brothers & Sisters in blue would greatly appreciate the read. If you don't already, PLEASE relay those sentiments with other family and friends that reside in Dekalb.
The change has to start with The Citizens, The tax payers.
Voice your discontent with the commissioners. Let them know you will not stand for this.
Let them know you stand behind your police department.
Take a trip up to your local precinct and tell them THANK YOU and they have your support.

Once again Anon 7:06
Thank You!

Hey Conroy, Can you quit with the Yearbook stuff. No one cares about a stinking yearbook. Who has 50 dollars for that crap. All though Dekalb Officers are treated like high school students with threats for low productivity from Lts who didnt do sh.....t as an Officer, lets not make a high school yearbook in Dekalb. By the way is there going to be a section in the book for Officer MUG shots for those who have been arrested and will be arrested in the future.

Have you folks noticed our neighboring county has had four (REPUBLICAN) county commissioners take bribes. Now either the idiots we have here, I think some refer to them as "DEMOCRAT THUGS" are either smarter or honest. What do you guys think? I'm just proud to say we have not had a person convicted since John Evans. I know we will have a lot of you argue but ask your self this. How can you dispute facts?

I actually thought of printing flyers with this website on it, so our citizens can see just how we feel about the people they have in office. So they can understand just why their local police department feel tge way they do

Most comments here portray a defeatest attitude. The intent is to harm the administration for the injustice felt by the line officers. The reality is that when you go negative and attack, you will not be able to have a meeting of the minds. It is not easy to rise above and take the positive approach.

I do know this, I have worked with some of the best poeple in law enforcement here at DKPD. When people are looking at the news, they see bad. I have seen so much good here. We serve a higher cause. Blessings on you brothers and sisters.

Heads up to everyone that there will be another huge budget mess this year (I know you're soooo surprised).

Remember a few weeks ago when Lil Vern proudly announced that there was only a six percent decrease (eight percent in unincorporated DeKalb) in the property tax digest? Well, now we find out why the drop wasn't steeper. It's because the tax apparaisers way overvalued many homes in north DeKalb. Homeowners are seeing increases of $100,000 to $300,000. It looks like the crooks in Decatur tried to see what they could get away with, but now thousands of homeowners are steaming mad.

What's likely to happen is immediate revisions of some assessments and then another boatload of appeals for this tax year. I'd expect an actual decrease in the tax digest of at least ten percent (15 percent in unincorporated). That means mo' bugdet cuts. Get ready!!!

Anonymous said...

Anon 8:50, I think you made a direct hit with the comment about the tax assessors and N. DeKalb.
The tax assessors are political appointments and unlike the majority of Tax assessor employees who try to do a good job and act fairly and judiciously with citizens over serious property tax issues. The tax assessor takes their orders from DeKalb politicians and we all know how DeKalb political leadership privately regard North DeKalb citizens.
Just so everyone is perfectly clear on how this game is being played, I'll lay it out. DeKalb increased property taxes by a whopping 26 percent last year. This had little effect on south and central DeKalb property owners as their property values had declined so much that it offset the 26 percent increase. The more conservative north DeKalb citizens, did not see the same loss of value to their property as south/central DeKalb. More of them did not buy property out of their income range, and there were less foreclosures. A lot less.
To reward the North DeKalb citizens for their conservative finances the DeKalb BOC came up with the 26 percent tax increase that amazingly has almost no effect on south and central Dekalb property owners, but does effect the North DeKalb citizens disproportionately.
Just so everyone understand the issues and why I am so mad at DeKalb government.
The highest paid local government leadership refuses to negotiate over some valid issues of north DeKalb citizens.
They effectively raise N. DeKalb citizens property taxes while not raising S. DeKalb property taxes in reality.
They refuse to negotiate or heed past mistakes.(Dunwoody)
Commissioners and CEO are placing the county in financial jeopardy by refusing to perform there fracken' jobs which is to represent ALL the citizens! North, south, east and west. Black, white, brown, yellow or polka-dotted.
I am totally fed up with the elitist attitude of DeKalb's leadership.
Instead they invite Brookhaven citizens to secede by refusing to do their jobs and negotiate.
In-fracken'-sane.
My opinionated opinion.
Best of luck, mates!

Has anyone ever noticed that when Holmes signs a blue order, it looks like a 3 year old signed their name? I wonder if he grips the pen with his whole hand and writes it really slow, or the staff just dumps a bunch of crayons on the floor with a sheet of paper and lets him go to town? Either that or he rips a huge bong and then signs his name once he is super baked.

I wouldn't worry about the yearbooks ending up in the hands of perps. If they want to find out about you, all they have to do is call our brilliant HR department and "say open records request" and they'll gladly give out your home address to any perp. It's happened.

Anonymous said...

Guess what folks. If brookhaven becomes a city the commissioners are going to raise the property taxes again, its coming. Plus the Dekalb schools milage increase, you'll be paying a shitload more money. Start saving now. Proud Dekalb officer but glad I live in fulton.

Anon 834...You really want to go there with Republicans vs. Democrats? Have you not taken a look at your paycheck lately? The BOC has been screwing you and I over for the last 11 years. You don't think they have their hands in something getting a little off the top? Have you not seen these employees in the Water Shed and School system getting paid on something? The difference is in Gwinnett, they actually investigate the allegations. Here, we hide it and do nothing about it!!

Anonymous said...

Anon 9:05 its a fact that corruption exist in your county based on the series of events. You should also note that arrest have been made in the Water Shed and School System incidents. That's taking action (doing something about it) so what's your point? Can we agree non of the idiot Commissioners have been arrested in DeKalb? You should be proud of that I am.

Anonymous said...

Anon 12:01. You are missing the entire point with the Gwinnett commissioner being charged.
I am going to give you some examples and you make up your own mind whether investigation of DeKalb political leadership is warranted.
Background for some reflection.
Many of the county employees who give a damn knew Sheriff Dorsey was corrupt. We knew about his Harley's, we knew about his trip to Philadelphia to visit his mom in a county vehicle with a county driver. I even knew his chief henchman was drawing nearly twice his salary with fraudulent job hour entries nearly two months before our beloved Derwin Brown was assassinated by Dorsey's associates. (There are a lot of items in the Brown assassination that have never been published)
The point I am trying to make is that many county employees were aware of Sheriff Dorsey's corruption and did nothing about it.
I see DeKalb political leadership in the same light as with Sheriff Dorsey. We all know something bad is happening but most are too scared to do something about it.
Now let me give you three specific example of possibly criminal behavior with current DeKalb leadership. This is all from published accounts from the AJC and major news media.
CEO Burell Ellis suspended the DeKalb government ambulance contract worth millions over the allegation that the ambulance contractor was not providing satisfactory service, specifically one incident where the DeKalb 911 operator gave the ambulance crew a wrong address. The ambulance crew used their laptop and cellular Internet to deduce the correct address and arrived after 30 minutes. This incident was the county's fault and Ellis used it to suspend the ambulance contract and award it to a company in Arizona that just happened to retain Burell Ellis's campaign manager as a consultant.
Commissioner Sherry Barnes/Sutton gets pulled over by DKPD and is found to have active warrants for passing 4 grand in bad checks and allowed to walk.
Sherry Barnes/Sutton infamous trip to DC and her luxury 600 dollar a night room.
Sherry Barnes/Sutton is found to have a 30 grand a year contract with her campaign manager for services unknown and unaccounted for.
Sherry Barnes/Sutton campaign manager was also listed on the DeKalb D.A.'s personal web site as a campaign consultant.
There is more than enough published evidence that two of DeKalb's political leadership deserve serious investigation.
So I have presented published, verifiable evidence that at least two of the CEO/BOC performed unethical and possibly criminal acts.
My experience is that you almost always have a "sleeper" in an organization doing sleazy stuff.
The whole bunch should be investigated. It's the only way to be sure.
my opinionated opinion.
Best of luck mates!

To add to Ken C: You have a director of public safety, Miller and an assistant police chief, Holmes who stopped the investigation of Holmes secretary after 3 officers and a K-9 alerted on the vehicle. She was allowed to go home while every officer involved was investigated. The K-9 was taken out of work until he requalified (which he did easily). Phone records and training records were pulled for these officers. What has happend in regards to this corrupt behavior? Nothing! It sickens me that all of this happens, and noone is looking into it. The media requested all the documentation yet has done nothing because we all know who runs channel 2 and her husband is tight with both mentioned.

DeKalb County has a lot of perps and perp sympathizers living in it, so is it any surprise that investigations into corruption aren't demanded and performed here as they were and are in Gwinnett County ? Turning this into a democrat vs republican thing is ridiculous and retarded. Those running the show here are corrupt as hell, they just don't have anyone holding them accountable, especially their constituents.

Ken C its obvious we have ETHICTS issues here, that's a fact, look at the State Government also. My question is who is taking bribes?? Can you prove it beyond a reasonable doubt? I'm not taking about stuff you here from third and forth parties. I'm with you let's bring good solid FACTS not rumors. They had FACTS next door. Robert James is out to make a name for him self I GUARANTEE you if you have some solid information get it to him. He will jump on it.

Anon 7:50 since when has any news media outlet refused to run a exclusive story?? When?? To say that Channel 2 won't run the story because of one employee is like saying congress should pass every bill because who is president, I hope you are intelligent enough to read between the lines. The comparison is a little of but you can figure it out. You do know WSB is not the only TV station in Atlanta they will report it, but check your facts first they are a bit off Mate.

Are all the people in this county perps? Haaaa that's asking you to be honest I know. The fact is next door 4 people have gotten in trouble for taking bribes and they just happen to represent the REPUBLICAN PARRTY that's also a FACT. I didn't make this up. I think what 9:36 AM was saying is that DeKalb now has more perps and perp sympathizers than it used too. Of course you already know this, you just refuse to see the light and try and make it a racial issue. DeKalb has always been a very liberal county (for the last 100 years) and always had a lot of perps and sympathizers. This is where the perps made thier money. Where do you think those moonshiners were headed too when they left the north GA mountains with a load to sell?
DeKalb has always been a bedroom community of Atlanta and Gwinnett is finally starting to get in on the action in the past few years, and has a become a bedroom community of a crime ridden Dekalb. I think they call that "progress" now days.
Until they take the profit out of being a politican, then there will always be crooks getting elected by crooks, regardless of race. Cops have always been a nessesary evil and all we have ever been is a way to try and maintain the peace, since the law is a subjective thing to the crooks that run the show and to those who elected them.
We had better watch each others backs because they surely do not give a damn about us!

Hey Anon 702

Ok, factually in the case of Gwinnett County, you are right. But if you are going to sit here and thumb your nose because THIS time they all happen to be republicans then why bother responding to you. Most, NOT ALL politicians SUCK. Democrats and Republicans have different means and ideologies to get to an end. And that end is usually to gain power, influence, and money for themselves and their friends. Coming on this thread saying that those running this county are totally clean because they are democrats (and not "evil" republicans) and haven't been indicted is just plain STUPID. The evidence is all around you. Tens of Millions missing in recorders court, for example, and they hold a couple of lowly clerks responsible for it (bullshit) Where are the checks and balances here when it comes to accountability? There are few to none....by design.

There is a hunt on to indict and investigate DeKalb Police Officers. Why? People are demanding it and many of the constituents, NOT ALL, HATE the police. In some cases it should be demanded and the indictments are deserved. However, most people living in this county, from all walks of life and races are not demanding accountability from their elected officials whether they are democrat or republican. If they were, you probably would have seen some indictments by now

-Anon 1118

I see you just don't get the point. I will leave you with this. Who ran the county back then? It was obviously a problem then. Did we turn a blind eye? Now its a big problem. This entire county has been rode and rode hard at the hands of who? It took years to get this way now you expect a quick fix wow. Blame the ones who are responsible and stop making excuses. PS let's prove bribes are being taken, I'm with you 100 percent.

To Anon 0709 you are damn straight. Business and alcohol license both need someone to take an in-depth look into them. Too bad WIZ was afraid to have a public corruption unit because this is exactly what they were intended for. The club owner's all know that you have to pay in order to get prompt and good service to obtain an alcohol license.

Anon 7:09am You hit the nail on the head. Ever since Mr Green left the business license department the current clerks have been pocketing thousands of dollars of bribery money. If you pay them the right amount of money you too can get a license illegally. The problem with this is they have got careless and now we, the other business owners are catching on to them. Stay tuned as several business owners come forward to complain about this issue.. I suspect some arrests of clerks and business owners as the Feds are now aware of this issue. As a business owner who has Officers working for me I urge the Officers covering for these corrupt business owners to do the right thing or risk everything.

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:28 since you seem to know it all, please explain why this hasn't been looked into? Why has nothing been done while innocent, hard working officers are being investigated for doing their jobs. Please enlighten me. I know it happend for a fact so please tell me why nothing was done

To 4:02 pm you are the ones that suffer when you jump through hoops and pay attorneys fees to get your license and land use permits. These shady owner's know who to pay off at the license and zoning departments in order to get what they need. Some of these very establishments are indeed guarded by our officers, some of rank. The honest business owners with info need to come forward and make statements to the feds. You guys who have been through the process know exactly whom the culprits are!
