This blog page was established so DeKalb County Police Officers including their family and friends may have a place to hold discussions, post news and vent without fear of retribution.
Take Home Car/Retention Survey... I haven't heard squat about that since they rolled it out, told us to submit it and that take homes were a done deal since drug money would be used to finance the purchase of vehicles for MPO's and above. As expected...more BS to make us think they were gonna try and keep us from leaving by giving "non-pay" related benefits.Yes Virginia, I'm warming up to the idea of returning to the private sector.
Any new updates on take home vehicles?
Well then since we have "Opened" the comment's section, I will participate with the festivities.Let's see a Sgt has been assigned to the screening desk for the better part of a month. While sitting there his gun and duty equpiment has been taken away. This would leave a reasonable person to believe they were being scrutinized by the wonderful powers that be.So why in the hell would you "Sgt Adkison" go and work part time jobs, without might I add a gun or radio, and im told in a training uniform. Now with that in mind, and as stupid as it seems, how can you lead anyone as a supervisor. Better yet I feel for the very souls who are assigned to you to lead them into battle.Oh well what'a I know, well I tell ya. I know alot of criminal acts that take place around this place and I find it sickining. I can no longer wear the uniform with pride. It is merely a means to my retirement. So Sgt Adksison enjoy your admin leave, it has to be better than screening, but your time is near. Now I must go and slam some ham!!!
Show me the money.....SHOW ME THE MONEY.....SHOW ME THE MONEY
For whomever runs the jail:Why do the female detention officers in Transport flirt with the perps? As I'm walking out with a perp, they're smiling and batting eyelashes at the perps! I have witnesses multiple exchanges of personal verbal interaction between detention officers and inmates. And why do my armed robbery perps know the sheriffs security at Mag Court on a personal level, including telling them to make a phone call for him to so and so! It's no wonder these perps control the jail! PLEASE PUT MALE JESTER TEAM ONLY IN TRANSPORT!
To 0743 am, I'm definitely enjoying my take home car. It is earning me $40 an hour patrolling off duty. No gas bills either. You have to earn the perks!
Can't we all just get along!!!!
In-Service: What does one learn from swinging an ASP Baton that has NO EFFECT on the target? Instructors beating up on veteran officers is of no benefit to the officer. Here's a suggestion - tell me when I make good strikes and when I made a poor strike. Beating the hell out of me teaches me that I need to use the Taser or go directly to the Smith & Wesson. Training keep talking "reality and real world".... but have me swing an ASP that does nothing to slow my target....they do things that make NO SENSE.
Congratulations to Ret. Officer J. Turner for his recent recognition by the county as a community hero. A good, positive story from the Champion: Community Champion Award – individualJeremy TurnerRetired DeKalb County police officer Jeremy Turner is a native Atlantan. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Georgia he moved to DeKalb County and worked as a counselor for the American Red Cross, assisting military families and people affected by natural and man-made disasters. In 2002 Turner became a DeKalb County police officer and was very passionate about his job. His brother had been killed by a hit-and-run drunken driver several years earlier and, after he had been on the job only a few months, his father was killed during an armed robbery in Atlanta. Turner was later promoted to detective in the department’s major felony unit. In 2008, he was selected to become a part of the department’s newly established Interactive Community Policing Unit (ICPU), which provided officers opportunities to strengthen bonds with the community.During his ICPU work, Turner realized there was a lack of community outreach and support for the homeless in DeKalb County. Many had mental illnesses, addiction problems and domestic violence issues. Turner began Contribute2America (C2A) to create, “effective change in the lives of homeless or near homeless individuals through one-on-one interaction and consistent involvement in their lives.” With a core group of more than 40 volunteers, C2A conducts outreach visits to local homeless encampments underneath bridges and other areas, assists homeless clients with long-term medical care and addiction counseling, and holds a weekly dinner for homeless individuals and families. C2A also established the first food cooperative in DeKalb County. Turner retired from the DeKalb County Police Department in 2010, but continues his work in the community. In addition to C2A, Turner and his wife Nicole volunteer at their children’s schools assisting with various PTA fundraisers and helping with administrative work.
To anon 233 pm I'm with you, haven't bought gas in over a year. Makes up for no raise for the past 5 years!
Since Chief Yarbrough is no longer over uniform, do we still have to attend Capt AJ's building search training? What a joke! Chief Holmes, can you put a stop to this madness?
The only thing Chief Holmes stops are valid investigations by stand up police officers.
Does anybody know why the Magic Bus was at Stonecrest Mall each nite during the wk end parked t next to where the "fair" was going on ? even had the door open? Surely our officers were not having to provide security for the "fair" event! As short of officers as we are & knowing there is a need for officers to be out on the streets patrolling & helping out each other then why was this decision made & by whom? Another silly question: was there any renumeration for this "special service" made to the county?
Is the DeKalb County Police Bus available to provide security with Officers on duty? If so I will quit paying my off duty officers.
Sounds like a certain Commissioner or CEO is pulling Police Services to Stone Crest Mall to buy votes.Getting close to elections ain't it?
Wow, never thought about trying to get the bus loaded with officers for my security detail. That is better than using my new take home to make the security rounds. You guys were complaining about me using a tank of gas a weekend patrolling Buford Hwy. Go Stone Crest a bus and you still had a riot!
Does it bother anyone besides me who truly supports our officers that Dwight Thomas, attorney who represents the slug who today admitted in court that he was the shooter of Barker & Bryant,(self defense of course!) that Gov. Deal declared Sept. 15th 2011 Dwight Thomas Day in DeKalb because of his "Mentoring young people", his outstanding work in legal defense... if you missed the article check out the Champion-or run his name in google with Dwight Thomas Day" Oh yea, & Vermin is right there in the photo w/a big grin plastered all over his face.Lovely message Dwight is sending to these "young people" he is mentoring that if you kill a cop in DeKalb? you can get one of the very best attorneys in the entire State to defend you. Now that's something to write home about.
Wow - and it gets better. Sharon Barnes Sutton in the pic too. No words....
I'm so sick of Dekalb cops being on the news and in the paper. I will admit I don't know the circumstances, but the article says the cop kicked a pregnant woman. I worry that all this bad publicity is making it more dangerous for the rest of the officers out there. What's the story with this? It also mentions this same cop shot a family dog going to the wrong address?????
It also says she aggressively charged at the cop. Did you miss that part on purpose? I'm sick of these perps thinking they can assault us.
ANON.. MAY 9, 2012 6:45 AM.... Get the facts before you throw him under the bus.....pregnancy does not neutralize a woman's ability to be a threat to officer safety.
If you were running towards your brother, how did you get close enough to the officer to get kicked by him? Would you have gone around him if you were trying to get to your stupid perp brother? If you were 9 months pregnant, maybe you should have not injected yourself into the situation in the first place! He just got tazered. He was going to jail because your parents didn't do a good job raising you two!
Anon 10:19. If you read my post, I didn't throw anyone under the bus. I do not know the officer involved and do not speculate. I simply stated what the news report said and ASKED for someone to give details. Read the damn post before you bash someone looking for more answers. I know how the news is anti police and was looking for the other side.
Maybe you guys wouldn't be in the paper so often if you weren't constantly acting inappropriately.
Praying for the wife of the officer beaten last night. My heart goes out to this family. This is where we come together.
