Pension News

For whatever reason, the minutes of the pension board have been slow to post. After checking with Robbie Robertson, the minutes are up to date. The July minutes can not be posted until approved at the September meeting.

The highlights appear to be a cost of living raise for our retirees. The last time they received a COLA was in 2007. The pension board is looking into a 1% COLA for our retirees, excluding the early outs.

Click here for the May 2012 minutes.

There sure was not much of a conversation about the 1% COLA for retirees. I still do not understand why we have so many advisors..there has to be overlap in investment philosophy.

Sounds like a problem. The early outs are excluded, early outs are retirees.

The last early outs got the best deal on a loan from the pension. The last early outs got a deal closer to the current cost of living. The rest of us chickes have lower pensions than you guys who did that same work for better money and a hell of a get out deal too. Don't be greedy...pluse 1% aint crap anyway. I'm still pissed about the ones who were allowed to count their overtime toward that pension instead of those of us that didn't...that was a deal too. It should have all been on Base salary...a lot of that OT way back when was BS anyway.

Anon 9:58,

You hit the nail on the head!

I would like to add since nobody seems to realize it. In 2007 when they gave the so called raise for retirees, they only gave it to those who retired in 2001 or before. Those who retired 2002-2006 were selected as a group not to get the raise. A 1% raise is a slap in the face and will only give them reason to say they gave us a raise so they wont give us anymore for a while.

Robertson 1% is BS ! Five years then a 1% COLA.What a joke.

Those of us still working haven't had a raise in 5 years either.

You know, I wanted to use this article to inform people who have been here a short time and a long time that our pension is NOT backed by the PBGC otherwise known as Pension Benefits Guaranty Corporation. The PBGC is the US govt agency that backs pensions, PRIVATE COMPANY PENSIONS, not state and local govt pensions. Local govt pensions are backed by the "the good faith and credit" of the local govt, just like they say our US dollars are backed by the "full faith and credit of the United States govt".

If state/local govt pensions fail, the state laws and regulations where this type of pension failure occurred determine what courses of action take place with those effected by the failure of the pension.
I do not know off hand what occurs in the state of Georgia in cases of local govt pension failures for those collecting pensions, those vested, and those not vested. Being that Georgia is a right to work state, it would be a safe assumption that the working man is just plain screwed if a local govt pension fails.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge on this subject can chime in and enlighten us further, but the fact remains that only PRIVATE SECTOR pensions are backed by the FEDS. Just ask someone COMPETENT that is serving on our pension board and see what they tell you.

A 1% COLA is an extra happy meal every month for me. I dont see how they can even consider that as anything but a slap in the face.
Guess ill have to keep picking up old beer cans on the side of the road to survive until I die....

Keep the 1%. I dont want the pension board to be able to say ,in the future that, they gave us a COLA when it was 1% taxed crap increase. This is a joke !

@6:23
Don't worry. They kept it. Sheriff Brown and Ed Wallen voted No. The guy who represents the current employees voted Yes. Robertson and what's her name abstained.

Please take your 1% or give it to the boot's on the ground. What do you have to complain about you guys and girls dont work for this SHIT HOLE of a county anymore.
But I have to give you credit you were here when DeKalb was the place to police.
