And You Wonder Why We'll Never Get A Raise

Burrell Ellis is bound and determined to piss away at least a million bucks on a soapbox derby track in south DeKalb. Why, when it is such an obvious losing proposition?

Is he delusional? Or could it be, hmmmmm, kickbacks? Not in DeKalb County, surely not!

Click here to read AJC's April Hunt's investigation. We do have to give her credit for a fine job this time.

I heard DKPD will be renamed The He-man Woman Haters Club as soon as the track is up and running.

I figured it out, if you build a soapbox derby all the whites will move back and it will be the 1950's again. It's genius, I bet a bubble with a soapbox car appeared above his head when he thought of it. This will give Archie and Jughead something to do other than getting robbed & shot.

Raise ??? Benefits added back ??? Lower health insurance ??? No furlough days ???

Hey man, what planet are you on? This is Planet Dekalb, there ain't nothin that resembles that on this planet. You must be dreamin.

The real shit about any of this, is that if you were writing a book, you couldn't make up this stuff as real as it is.

I have resided in many parts of this country, and have NEVER seen a county as totally fucked up as Dekalb, and that is putting it very mildly. The stupidity and crookedness is this county government goes beyond anyone's imagination.

Will this county improve in its competence?.....Not in your lifetime.

If any of you have been here working for DCPD and have five or more years, under the new pension plan, you might want to consider a job change to somewhere else, because it isn't going to get better, just worse. If you are under the old pension and are still here, then you are stuck. Work here til its time to sign your name on those retirement papers and get far, far away from this dump. If you reside in the county and are employed for the county, make sure sure you have an ample supply of bullets on hand til you decide to move.

God help us all as we will need it.

Great job April. Many thanks!
This is all being paid for by the green-space II bond issue. The commissioners and CEO wanted all these really nice things the county nor the citizens could really afford, and the polls were indicating that a majority of the citizens would not vote for the bonds. So DeKalb's elite decided to game the system and disenfranchise most of the voters. Here was how the game was played. Its called the single issue special election scam. Special elections are designed for extraordinary events, the special election was designed for one reason only, to replace an elected that has either died or been forced out of office. What DeKalb elite rulers figured out was that if they put all the big bond issues into separate special elections only the supporters would bother to vote on the issue instead of the entire voter population ensuring the passing of the bond and disenfranchising 90 percent of the voters who could not be bothered with voting on a single "unimportant" issue such as a bond issue. Three special elections later DeKalb rulers had everything they wanted, Greenspace I & II, and the library bond issue.
To continued.....KenC

Part II
Problem was how to pay for it without raising taxes to the citizens because the DeKalb school system was already raising the taxes to support their building binge. So where was the money to come from to pay for the bonds? The employees of course! Vern, Stognar and Stone role out the no "pay for performance" plan that essentially capped raises at two-three percent. If you were political staff you were still allowed the full five percent yearly raise. Schweet! That wasn't enough so they rolled out the new reduced pension plan that combined with low salaries was almost guaranteed to attract low quality recruits and candidates. The county continued to reduce benefits and up the employee contributions to save even more money. During this time frame the commissioners and CEO manage to acquire whopping raises of 100 and 50 percent respectively making them the highest paid local government officials in the region. Schweet! Then the recession hit and Dunwoody incorporated. A big double whammy that the CEO and commissioners created by refusing to do their damn jobs and negotiate in good faith with their constituents. So what we have seen is the CEO and Commissioners morph from being democratic leaders to elite autocratic rulers making decisions not based upon the will of citizens or voters, but what they thought would be nice. I agree 100 percent with Anon 10:21.
Best of luck guys and gals,

OT. guys, gals and blogmaster. I am seeing a lot of suspicious advertising on the top and sides of this web page that the blogmaster has no control over.
All of them worry me because I know you guys and gals. Y'all are healthy individuals and most not averse to a quick roll in the hay. I feel the same. Ooh-ragh!
However let me point out that clicking on these advertisements and engaging the individuals in sexual conduct could get you in real fracken' trouble.
What you guys and gals do in private is your own business, not mine.
I just want to keep you out of trouble.
Best of luck!

I am with Boyer on this one. I don't remember seeing outcries, protests and rallies for a SoapBox Facility in Dekalb County. I don't remember seeing voter revolts about not building this thing.

Burrell is looking for something to hang his hat on. Vernon got Brook Run Skate Park, which was a nice parting gift for Dunwoody. Now with two affluent areas out, how will we maintain this facility?

I am all for tourism, supporting our restaurants, hotels, nightspots, malls and so on. But not through pet projects. Will we be like Fulton and have to beg non-profits to run the facility when they realize that the unincorporated area can't maintain their pet projects. Will we be like Atlanta and let this fall into disrepair as the glitz and glamour are gone?

City of Tucker anyone?

If they have money to waste on projects like this, but not to give us raises, maybe it's time to bring back the warning ticket blitz. I'm tired of collecting money for these crooks but not seeing my work appreciated, no raise in 5 years!! Come on! Who's with me?

Remember that there is no quota for tickets in DeKalb County. Warnings count the same as long copies. They can't write us up for warnings!

Ken C,
For whatever reason, we are not seeing what you are seeing. We do have advertisement under our header which is pretty much boring stuff like online degrees etc.

We do not condone or want any affiliation with the types of ads you are speaking of.

Commissioner Watson should have went to the cooler. I can remember when the late H. Williams was a commissioner and he was charges with DUI. Commissioner Watson is not any different than the next citizen. I hope that Chief O.B charges him with wreck less conduct...

I blew away my IE9 which eliminated the problem with the adds. No doubt I had some cookies that were directing the adds. Thanks, BM!

To those of you who continue to brag about getting your quota each day look at what you are getting in return. Screw kissing your Lt. a** and your take home car you are funding this crap. Maybe if you write 20 a day we can get 10 furloughs instead of 5. That is how you must be thinking. I agree with the above poster step up to the plate Tucker, you are now on the hook for funding this redistribution project we call DeKalb.
