Welcome The New CIty of Brookhaven. District 4 Supports The Corrupt

The voters of Brookhaven have voted to incorporate as a city. The list is too long to support their move. But the one that stands out today, is District 4 overwhelmingly reelected the liar, thief and downright immoral Sharon Sutton.

Enough to make you want to spit.

Get out if DKPD while you can for Gods sake. Do it for your family and well being. Put in for Johns Creek, Brookhaven, Sandy Springs..any where but Dekalb. Hell Look into Florida or some where out west. Benefits are greater the further away you get from Atlanta!!!!

After watching the returns, all I can say is the citizens of Dekalb get what they deserve. How can people be so ignorant?

With all 12 precincts reporting results, the vote was 5,939 to 4,928.

City of fifty thousand and look how many voted and the difference of 1011 votes.

Has crime decreased in Dunwoody?

They will soon have the same political problems as DeKalb.

Everybody wants political power and then comes the problems.

How has Dunwoody become a better place to live?

Democrats, the ruin of Dekalb County. The Jones legacy continues.

Is anyone really surprised?

Saw A. T. the chief investigator from the Solicitor's Office on TV celebrating the vote; thanks buddy I think of you when I take my furlough days. Guess he's looking for a job at Brookhaven. Why did I ever risk my life for the citizens of this area when all they do is spit on us?

A few more police officers could have made all the difference here as it could have in Dunwoody. More police, as was the case with Dunwoody, was at the forefront of why citizens in these areas wanted to become their own city. They felt their high taxes should yield something more than what they were getting from DeKalb County Govt.

Yes I know, to the rebuttal arguments that will come, that this is about citizens in the north (vs the south) paying a bulk of the taxes and not police presence. But in the end, it all ties together.

If one of the major issues cited was "we want more police", the county should have stepped up to the plate and delivered. Even though it wasn't the only issue for those crying cityhood in Dunwoody and Brookhaven, it would have shown good faith and would have shown that the county was listening and answering some of the concerns of those that pay the highest taxes in the county.

When you build a bunch of multi-million dollar park upgrades, libraries, performing art centers and the like in the south and east parts of the county, it clearly sent the message of "we dont care" to the northern parts of the county. Now look at the results CEO and BOC. (lets not forget the soap box derby park proposal off Rockbridge Rd)

Its true that the majority of budgets for those buildings' construction and park upgrade construction projects comes from bond money specifically for those purposes, but those facilities have to be staffed and maintained. Where does the money come for that? The general budget.

The police department generates money through citations, and yet, money can never be found for police. What would have been the cost for some more officers? I don't know exactly, but I can tell you this. It would have been less than the 25 million or so that the county will no longer receive once Brookhaven is online. And the police department has the open positions already budgeted

Stupid Stupid Stupid

That's right boys and girls time for some of you all to join the unemployed numbers. This is what some of you all have been asking for. Brookhaven will do like Dunwoody and not hire Dkpd officers. So good luck in finding employment in the metro area. All the complaining about the county now some of you are really going to miss the county. With a 25 million dollar shortfall and less citizens to protect who needs a large police department. Hate to see some of you all leave but as some would say "stand by" because it's coming soon.

Glad we didn't break ground on that new North Precinct. Don't blame them for wanting to get control away from their fellow voters whom re-elect Barnes- Sutton. Glad we can get those TRT cars out of there now. Go back to Glenwood Rd. boys. To the ones whom are experiencing anxiety about possible having to patrol South of I-85 you will be alright.

Time for Leadership..... I wonder if the command staff will be speaking to the troops to address concerns that come with this....

1. will there be layoffs (probably not since we're already understaffed),
2. not will...but when do the furloughs start,
3. what impact will the lost taxes have on our jobs, our families and future.... etc...etc...

Let the exodus begin!

Anonymous said...

@1148
Amen! A cesspool of corruption and socialism. This is the model of how to NOT manage a county government. Unfortunately it doesn't stop at DeKalb.

Anonymous said...

Lol Great Job Brookhaven!!!!

Anonymous said...

Now Chamblee & Doraville annex the remaining parts and there is nothing left north of I-85. Tucker, Northlake, and Oak Grove your up next! DeKalb deserves to only have South of Hwy. 78 to govern. The two are meant for each other.

Whats with these officers saying the residents are spitting on them personally?

We didnt vote becuase we dont like the individual officers...we love the police.

Our problem has always been with the corrupt, broken, wasteful, dekalb county govt.
I will gladly pay higher taxes to break further away from Dekalb County govt. I will gladly play for more cops and a local city police department rather than Dekalb where they dont dust for prints at burglaries, they never follow up on reports unless its something major and the service and # of officers actually on patrol in our area is slim.

Yes Dunwoody is a better place now, they are making hundreds of more arrests than Dekalb ever did, they are actually solving thefts, burglaries, shoplifting rings, etc. They actually stop in a get to know business owners and work with them to reduce thefts. They are actually doing surveillance on parking lots and neighborhoods catching thieves and dope dealers. All Dekalb ever did was answer 911 calls and take reports and show up an hour after you called. Its not the officers fault, its the county you work for. And now that county govt is getting a huge slap in the face.

wAnon 12:49, get a grip. You said, "That's right boys and girls time for some of you all to join the unemployed numbers. This is what some of you all have been asking for. Brookhaven will do like Dunwoody and not hire Dkpd officers."

Dunwoody hired some of the good ones, do the names Fidel Espinoza (now Dunwoody PD SGT) and Mihn Pham ring a bell?

DKPD has a lot of great officers, but also a lot of thugs and perps. Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, and now Brookhaven can afford to be careful and hire the best.

May not like it, but you are wrong on this one sport. That chip on your shoulder must be hurting your ability to face the truth.

Anon 11:48 ohhh yeah the other party has done a great job. Look at its presidential candidate. And they preach less GOVERNMENT. This should be fun to watch. And to those that think the north side deserves all and the south deserves nothing. North was built on resources from the south. Did anyone complain about that????

All of these comments are actually comical. If you guys would stop the pissin and moaning and come together as a unified front maybe you could make a difference. As long as you work as individuals you will go nowhere!

Anonymous said...

I am amazed that everyone has failed to react to or comment on the fact that DeKalb County Government decided they had far too much taxes coming in for police services. So much so, that on July 10th the county commission approved lowering the millage rate for police services by 2.19 mils. They offset that decrease by increasing other non-police millage rates an equal amount. This bait and switch tactic means the tax increase in 2011 "for police services" has now been moved to other non-police purposes.

http://www.thecrier.net/news/article_7ab2f590-d016-11e1-8c36-0019bb2963f4.html

And folks wonder why Brookhaven and Dunwoody wanted to create their own cities. Did the commission know that Brookhaven was a sure thing and cut the police funds ahead of time or were they planning to cut the funds anyway? Brookhaven was complaining about the level of police services already. What will it be like if the police budget is cut to match the decrease in the police millage rate?

AND the citizens actually re-elected these folks again. I can hear them laughing in Decatur now about pulling the wool over everyone's eyes.

Anon 639,

Get a grip on the facts. North was built on South is laughable.

in 2008, when Dunwoody emancipated themselves from the county, they were 6% of the County population....and accounted for 16% of the tax digest.

Average home value in Dunwoody $400K, what is it in Lithonia?

Average household income in Dunwoody on of the highest in the state.

Average education level one of the highest in the state.

Compare that to south of 78. Calling Bull$hit on your unfounded argument.

And yes, that tax money deserves to be spent where it is collected...and earned. Deserve it, you bet.

Look at the CEO and Commissioners you just re-elected.

Oh. And have a nice day.

It always amazes me that the areas with the least amount of crime ask for the most amount of police services. I'm looking at you Dunwoody and Smokerise.

At it's a fallacy that fingerprints solve crimes. Less than 1% of collected finger prints lead to an arrest.

Bitter - party of one - at 11:48 am -- HELL YEAH!! Dunwoody is an AWESOME place to live!! Sorry!!

1:38 AM - you can go back to sleep now darlin. Past your bedtime.

What is MOST offensive to me is that no one is horrified that BURRELL ELLIS is not gone. Looks like the movement to change the county form of government is back on the table.

Don't worry, Vermin will have a place at the dinner table for ya. Y'all can sit there at discuss how great you are.

You guys/gals are killing me. Dekalb is no better or worse off than any other COUNTY. The problem is you have this BLOG that blows up what problems we do have and make it appear 10 times worse than any other COUNTY/CITY. People are crying and asking for more but they are not willing to pay for it. Bottom line is with foreclosure rates at an all time high it has affected the revenu of the county. This BLOG did start out as a good idea but has ended up being and will be the downfall of this county. Why, because every news station, non-police person reads and chime their 2 cents in on issues they know nothing about. The BLOG is wrong almost 90% of the time. I know because I work close to the source. The morale of this county will rise again the day this BLOG is gone. The people that do the most CRYING don't even live in the county. So their only investment is a paycheck every other week. I would like for one person to tell me a officer that they konw of that has been LAID OFF as a result of DECATUR wasteful spending. NONE, some other major cities has laid officers off, one city has asked the Governor of that state to pay their officers Min Wage because they can not afford to pay them their regular salary. I tell all you cry babies what, go work for the agency where you live. That way you can protect your own, anddraw a check from YOUR GREAT COUNTY. Thank you MR/MS Blog owner if you would post this.

Not trying to scare anyone about their jobs but please do some research for your self. Research what happened to Fulton Co police and fire personal when half that county became cities. I can tell you now don't wait for a job fair. I hope it doesn't happen but just me i believe it's coming.

Hey DEkalb BOC. it is very simple...Ignore them and they will leave....as opposed to build it and they will come. Socialiam sucks, socialism is a failure. Now try to deal with what you have left, because your stupidity lost the north part of the county.

Anonymous said...

@ anon Aug 1 10:28pm...The commercial areas of Dunwoody made up the bulk of the taxes paid to the county. The residential area of Dunwoody paid closer to 3%. It is presumptuous to claim owership of the commercial areas like the PCID. As far as calling BS, Dunwoody had some of the lowest crime stats for the county. The mall drove the stats north of 285; mostly property crimes. If any government only offered police to those who pay the most in taxes would there be issues of unequal protection under the law? Crime stats drive police staffing allocations not an area's income level.

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:28 I bet you believe Dunwoody took 100 million. Dollars from Dekalb County. I will let you do your research on that. And you have the Gawl, its obvious you lack nuts to bring up EDUCATION, well its obvious you lack the facts again. As far as I can remember the schools on the north side have always had the best of everything. We won't mention cheating scandals. As far as education south of Hwy 78. Do you actually feel that every person has been given a equal chance? You feel its a level playing feel for everyone? I bet you also believe that every family that does not reflect yours is on some type of government assistance? Keep in mind they make up less then 15 percent of the population. Please don't mix opinions with facts. Your comment sounds good but lack the hard facts. Assisance

Hey Brookhaven what will is your salary and requirements for police officers in your city. I am interested. I have developed a working relationship with citizens in the Broohaven area and would like to consider continuing to serve in your city.

I was so angry with my first reply I had to blow it away and start anew.
I am really getting tired of being able to predict DeKalb government actions. Invariably they are poorest possible decision for the issue or situation. I'm not kidding. These guys and gals and their staffs are the highest paid in region and make the dumbest fracken' decisions.
Yep, you elitiest egotistical morons really showed Brookhaven citizens a thing or two. Like showing how not to do your jobs and negotiating in good faith for the welfare of your citizens.
Best of luck, guy and gals, your going to need it!

The great thing about being part of the birth of a new energetic PD is YOU as an officer can have influence regarding inception and policy. Not to mention to ranks will all have to be created anew so it's a great opportunity for career minded experienced DeKalb Officers.

John Marratt said...

As a first time reader of this blog I felt the need to chime in after reading these comments.
I voted Yes for Brookhaven because I felt we were being neglected by the county. It was also obvious that the county was neglecting it's officers.

I helped establish the neighborhood watch program in Lynwood Park a few years back and I want to say THANK YOU to the officers who helped us out and gave us their cell phone numbers so we could call them in an emergency. I also had a positive relationship with North Precinct. I/we do appreciate your service and hope Brookhaven takes a long look at hiring the officers who worked with us to bring down the crime and drugs in our area.
Thank you.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Marratt, Anyone that matters totally understands why Brookhaven was formed. As you can see there is a huge disconnect between officers and there employer, on the flip side, as you can tell from the Tuesdays election results, the citizens of what's left of DeKalb are quite happy with the way things are. DeKalb had some great officers but failed to retain most of them, just like Brookhaven.

Anonymous said...

@3:42..Is that going to be the recruitment slogan?
-Mr. Marratt, "Neglected by the county", we only knocked down crime in north by huge numbers. Your neighborhood in particular used to be an open air drug market. Gunshots were hourly and the surrounding neighborhoods were burglarized relentlessly. Entire teams spent years focusing on your neighborhood alone and now that the area has revitalized and crime has abated you claim you’re "neglected". I get it, you guys don't like the CEO or BOC but your vote for a city will mean and do nothing to them. I will be thinking of how citizen's like you thanked us while on my furlough days. If you'll notice the CEO and BOC will not be taking furlough days to make up for the lost taxes. If you and the citizens had focused on real change like the form of government or even something simpler like electing honorable people we might not be in this situation. Yes, I'm including the commissioners "serving" north DeKalb. It was sad to see DKPD become part of the equation of this city initiative and it was even sickening to see some of the outright falsehoods about us being bandied about as fact. Brookhaven was well served by DKPD.

Anonymous said...

Brookhaven WAS well served by DKPD, so don't blame the loss of Brookhaven on the North Pct. The North Pct, as far back as 20 years allocated a very large police presence to Brookhaven and Osborne Rd from one end to another. Years back DKPD North Pct brow beat the sanitation department and got a couple county back hoe's to remove trash and construction debris from Lynwood Park and removed junk and abandoned cars...all under the supervision of the North Pct. Don't blame the North Pct..we did all we could and then some. The loss was due to the BOC and no one else.

Remember that under law DeKalb will have to provide police service for up to 2 years after the vote was made. Brookhaven will officially become a city in Oct. then the Nov vote will elect your council and Mayor. Then things will start to fall in place and get started for Brookhaven. Wiz spoke to soon saying he was moving the north officers south because we are required by law to provide police services to Brookhaven. If the county attempts to leave them high and dry I am sure the Gov and Feds would be happy to turn the entire DeKalb Department over to the Sheriffs office to run. To answer your question YES the county knew they were going to loose the Brookhaven vote and that’s why they changed the Mil rate taking money away from police and adding it to other areas. This is they way they can keep more money for other unwanted or needed things. This county is very wasteful with money and spends it on things that are not needed but they are quick to hold out a hand and say give me and take money from the pension (Which is illegal look it up. Just saying) or furlough officers and firefighters just so they can take trips on our dime and order in lunch. This BOC and CEO have no idea what it means to be loyal to the residents of the county but sure can make excuses and push the blame when things go wrong. So Sad the good residents, officers and firefighters have to and will continue to suffer because of the actions of the BOC and CEO

Anonymous said...

It is beyond me why some of you still persist in lumping together the CEO and BOC. Yes, there are some idiots on the BOC - and we all know exactly who they are. But SOME members have sided with you and fought for you, yet you never acknowledge those. It is the CEO who has ignored their recommendations (Wiz's position is a good example), and chosen to act like a dictator. He continues to spend more than 3/4 of county revenue in South Dekalb, proceed with a soap box derby venue against the will of the BOC, and spend spend spend on other unnecessary expenditures, time and time again, all of which were done solely to ensure his reelection. The voters in South Dekalb only want what's theirs, and it will all soon be gone or trashed, because the CEO does not consider police and fire a priority. So their "gimme what's mines" attitude will come back to haunt them. Burrell Ellis' words are hollow. I have little if anything good to say about him, but take a closer look at the BOC meetings, which are televised, and you will see. Talk to and demand factual answers from the good BOC members, and you will see.

Dear anon 4:13, please tell me who the good BOC members are again. For some unknown reason I'm drawing a blank.

Here's a great example of why certain people can use county police response as a wedge to drive citizens to vote to incorporate so they can have their own police department:

http://www.championnewspaper.com/news/articles/1916burglars-ransack-disabled-man’s-home1916.html#contentcomments

Apparently this crime was not very important to the police department. I don't know, maybe this is how you respond to all such incidents when someone's home is ripped apart and defiled with shit and piss. However, if "take a report" is all you can offer than you're losing the only people who might still support you.

Many of you here rant about all the thugs, perps, and deadbeats that live in the county you're hired to protect. But when the law-abiding, tax-paying citizens see news stories such as this one, then what do you expect them to think? Do DeKalb police give a shit? What will the response be when something happens to me or my property?

Even if this police response was normal, does anyone in your department understand good public relations? Stories like this just give your department one more black eye.

Well how about telling these people where to apply for a job with brookhaven police department.:)
