Should The Georgia Legislature Reconsider Decriminalizing Our 17 Year Old Children?

A very interesting read on Heneghan’s Dunwoody Blog. Click here to read.

This is really the last thing we need to do. 17 is old enough to know the difference between right and wrong, when you're hurting someone or not, and whether you care about others or not. We all know that there has been a trend among gangs and criminal groups to recruit juveniles for some time since they aren't really punished for most crimes. As far as the rehabilitation arguments, you can only teach people who want to learn. You can take a perp off the street and give them all the classes and teaching that you want to, but unless that person wants to change and better themselves, it's for nothing. Plenty of people go into rehabilitation programs and then just fall back into the life when they get back out. It's all in the decisions people make. Most people know right from wrong. We as a society need to stop making excuses for people who choose wrong.

I can't tell you how many I've locked up for agg assault, narcotics, auto theft, burglary... just what we need more time for these thugs in the juvenile system.

That's a red hot negative, Ghost Rider.. lock'm up

Whoever votes for this obviously hasn't had their house 42'ed by the same juvenile perp several times only to have him receive a book report from the judge as punishment....our nation is deteriorating rapidly!!! Stock up on ammo!!!!!

Just what the little perps need.... more time on the "playing field" as a juvenile.... changing it will just allow them to game the system that much more.

Sorry that some "good kids" make a mistake and have to pay for it. If they're trying to turn their lives around after making a mistake, they'll find a way to get the scholarships for college that their conviction prevents them from getting.

Working past their mistake will build character that these career perps will never have.
