Are the rumors about 17 furlough days in 2013 true?

We got furloughed in 2010 after losing Dunwoody. We're supposedly broke now, so I can only imagine what's going to happen when we lose the revenue from Brookhaven.

Three officers quit this month alone at East Precinct. Granted there is not much good going on with the department. Ask Lt. Jordan, if you want to speak through your chain of command you have to get a PO1 PO2 MPO FTO and every sergeant to sign off on it prior to speaking with a Lieutenant. What is the real story what happened? I dont believe it says anywhere in policy that your safety sergeant has to approve it. Just a sergeant right?

I hope that Chief Gassner will take a realistic look at this place and make some well needed changes; I can’t go into all the things that are wrong as we all know that would take too much time. I know she can’t give raises or take home cars all though I would love a take home car..lol. let’s just deal with morale it is at an all-time low and the officers have given up hope I try to keep the troops positive and say thank you for their hard work. It doesn’t help and now we have this new public integrity unit which is a good thing but why in god’s name do we take two of the most closed minded and non-objective supervisors and put them in charge of it. These two men are without a doubt the most unlinked people in this department they have no ability to talk to people in the correct manner and talk down to everyone that comes in contact with them. Everywhere they go they create a very hostile work environment, it just does not make sense and I hope she looks at what this will cause morale to do.

Not on single member of the BoC has mentioned furlough days for Public Safety. The last time they did that, they got quite an earful from the public.

I havnt heard 17 I heard 8. 17 would make the blue flu a reality here! If 17 were true i wouldnt handle any call that couldnt be handled from the backlot. Finding a new job in public safety or not would be the only option!

Was it two or three new senior centers that opened this week? Glad we have money for centers that are under utilized.

Priorities..... no money to keep good officers... no money to keep the patrol cars under 100K miles.... no money for software that works...

Tired of this crap and leaving.. A pension based on a small, non-increasing salary that doesn't keep up with the cost of living... is a small pension that one can't live on.

Plain and simple......."This county's government and school system really sucks"

Tired and done.... that sums up my view of Dekalb County Police Department.

You can kick a good hunting dog only so many times. Eventually, he refuses to hunt... bites you... or runs away.

Sad thing...I had every intention of retiring from Dekalb. Now.... I'm actively pursuing employment elsewhere. I'll take what I've learned on the streets of Dekalb, in the Academy and what I brought to DKPD when I was hired... and take it where I won't be kicked or prevented from doing my sworn duty as an officer.

Like the nation, I fear Dekalb will not realize the error of their ways until it is too late.

Wishing you and your families a very happy Thanksgiving. I am grateful that God put people on this earth who want to be in law enforcement. Have a safe day - you ARE appreciated!!

Worked Tucker evening watch about 6 years ago Quit, went to Ga Tech, and now a mechanical engineer. I love it! Get out! You can do it too!

Last poster that went to GA TECH....that is a great post. People get comfortable, feel trapped, or are trapped for one reason or another and just stay put and let the years go by. Some are just looking at the pension, which Im sorry to say, is not really a good reason to stay (unless you have the years in already) since the pay increases have ceased.
You have motivated me to start looking at other moves that I can make on the chess board of life outside of policing because this place sure makes me second guess what the hell I'm doing here. It feels like I'm just spinning my wheels.

@9:33, @7:54, @9:12, @10:27 The exit forms are on the county intranet.
Stupid calls I saw on the computer.
South-The caller tells 911 that a wanted person is at their house, even tells dispatch the person is wanted for a DeKalb County probation violation. The sergeant diverts the call to sheriff's radio for the sheriff's office road deputies to respond. The sergeant for the sheriff's road deputies sends the call back to the police department. He said the sheriff's office would not respond until the DKPD went to the home and verified the wanted person was there.
North-Chamblee police received a customer dispute call at Brown and Brown Wrecker. Chamblee police transferred the call to DKPD saying DKPD had to respond because the dispute that got the car towed was caused the by the accident that DKPD investigated.

There were pension board meetings mid September and mid November. Why have the minutes of these two meetings not been posted on the county web site yet. The last one posted was the July meeting. How long does it take to do this and who in responsible for posting the minutes(?) so we, the people that paid into the pension, can see what is going on. Are we back in the same old boat of being mushrooms, to be kept in the dark about our pension. Contact your pension rep and find out what is going on and why they still do not like to keep us informed.

LOL.....What comes around goes around. I recall the 44 Flem's son was involved in and he intervened and screwed the entire investigation.
