Can't wait for TAC to get thier Drones!

He's been wanting to come to Atlanta for a minute now. He applied for Chief of Atlanta Police back in 2010. He made the finalist for the top 3 candidates. I would have rather see an internal candidate get the position as we seen with Fulton County PD, Atlanta PD and College Park PD.

Anonymous said...

Wow... sounds like a liberal, democrat's wet dream. What's left of the county when he comes on board should be thrilled.

This ought to be interesting.

Anonymous said...

Looks like he was runner up for ATL Chief in 2010.

Let's hope that he is not easly BS'd by the existing white shirts and that the morons in Decatur let him do his job without interference. No Public safety director to answer to either. I hope Decatur has learned from their mistakes, about the PD anyway.

Anonymous said...

Look at his expression, hes like "I got yo muthaf&@$in badge in my fingatips shawty!" LOL

Anonymous said...

The ass kissers will be stabbing each other to see who can get to him first to tell him how great they are. I will not call any names as most of you know who they are.

I think this guy deserves a chance. I will support him and assume he is a good guy just like I did with the last few chiefs. Of course maybe I'll be disappointed again but I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Anonymous said...

Here we go again.

Anonymous said...

I hope he does well, I really do. I hope he isn't anything like our last Dallas visitor and I hope he isn't like TSA in Atlanta. Nuff said.
He seems like a professional. Please give him your support and don't prejudge him.
Sincerely, A happy retiree!

Anonymous said...

Let the posturing begin!! We are in for some good times now. The "Internet-supplied PhD's from the Sally Strother/Eddie Long School of Intellect, Child Molestation and Barber College" that the white shirts have obtained on Departmental-time will be displayed all over the place in their attempts to get noticed. They will be using big phrases now to impress the chief and jockeying for position in the circus that is 34. Hopefully while that cheap theatre is being played out, they will leave the watches alone to get the work done.

Anonymous said...

I have been in this department for 15 years and I have to say we do not have any qualified leaders from within to lead this place. I will give our new chief a chance. I just hope he is nothing like that village idiot Bolton or the gangsters of the chocolate mafia.

He appears to be very educated and with a mixture of job experience. .

rpd said...

He is a no nonsense type of guy. He did wonders for moral in the Rochester Police Dept. At first we didnt know what to expect, but he turned out to be the best chief I have had the pleasure to serve under. I wish we could have him back. He supports his troops, on the streets and in front of the camera. Do right and you will not have a problem with him.

Anonymous said...

Maybe we finally got a good one.Hope so, he looks pretty good.Seems Ellis is tired of running the PD and hope's to hand it off to a guy who knows what he is doing. All we ask for is fairness and competency and being not easily influenced by suck up's.

New Chief....Be careful who you trust here.

SAWB..Smart Ass White Boy

Anonymous said...

I have a Masters in Clinical Psych.,as well. The DeKalb Police
Department has too many crazy titles.I would evaluate that first.
How do these people get the titles.
Is it who likes you or something else. Moral is limited when you remain and know you stand no chance of geting a promotion if you
are not one to suck up.Those who
are assigned to communicate with
the community should research the
history of the community before
coming out to speak.Our police
officers are some of the finest.
The ones who deal with the daily
problems are the best. If someone
just broke down my door, I will not see a Captain or a Precent
Commander.

Three under indictment.... three more under investigation? I'm assuming the "three under indictment" are the south sergeant and two officers....who else?

Hi all,
This is April Hunt at the AJC. I'd like to get react from some rank-and-file members about the hiring of Cedric Alexander as chief. If you'd like to comment, please call or email: 404-526-7740 or ahunt@ajc.com. Thanks!

Anonymous said...

He deserves the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise which will probably be revealed sooner than later.

Coming from a Northern law enforcement agency is a huge potential plus. They tend to take a harder line towards coddling perps and supporting law enforcement than any other region in our nation.

Rochester isn't exactly a high speed low drag agency but his experience in that "mindset" and culture of policing along with his exposure in the NY State criminal justice position should properly position him to be effectual.

Hearing that he has the stench of the Dallas area and TSA isn't anything to brag about but that doesn't necessarily mean he's the "TSA type".

His issue will probably be less about his ability and more about his balls and backbone to standup to the corrupt and inept nature of Deklb leadership and their anti-police, anti-progressive, pro-criminal posture that he'll have to buck in order to save his soul.

Let's wish him the best because ultimately (to a certain degree at the very least)... as he goes...so will we.

Anonymous said...

PAY ATTENTION DKPD!! Your new chief stated that he is not giving you any more money. he wants you to think that the commissoners are behind you guys!!! What another joke!!! Once again, Burell wins!!!

Beggars can't...... said...

Glad to see we're getting all the scraps that Atlanta didn't finish at dinner.... Benita's been a great addition!

Like they say about our jobs..be glad you have one (or in this case....are getting one).

Anonymous said...

You know who the "Twinkie" command staff are. These are the ones who remain in relatively the same positions no matter who is chief. Just like twinkies, they survive anything. I won't call out any names, Horner, Conroy, etc....

Anonymous said...

I imagine given the perils of this blog for former Chiefs and their administrations, the first order of business will be to find a legal reason to uncloak and shut it down.

Anonymous said...

Ms. Hunt,

I think most officers at DeKalb are hoping for the best but, are not holding their collective breath. We've been there and done that. Overall, officers have learned to sit back, watch what happens and try to come and go without being noticed. They want to do their jobs without interference and are in fear of making mistakes.

I'd be real surprised if you get something on the record.

Anonymous said...

Thank GOD I made it out of that circus.

Anonymous said...

So what does this say about previous command staff? They were grossly incompetent and/or corrupt that all these changes are now needed? Lets see if those changes are made or just more smoke & mirrors.

Anonymous said...

At least he can get an idea of who is respected here as a supervisor by reading back dated posts. Probably best to clear the board and start with a clean slate.

Fed Up said...

Great another Texan, just what we needed. You want to end corruption and raise morale, look no further than our paychecks.
All those millions spent on lawyers defending your asses in Decatur, could be well spent on your officers.

Anonymous said...

Lets give him a chance. Like someone earlier stated , one good thing is that he comes from a northern culture of police work where police are strongly supported. This along with his education and job history looks pretty positive to me.

Anonymous said...

I'll be happy to name names. I bet the 1st one in line will be Major White.

The best thing that could happen to us all is for the new Chief to realize his cheap cologne and demote him back to his last rank and put him in a precinct and get him out of CID where he has no business.

I bet you miss OB now, no more coat tails to ride.

Anonymous said...

Maybe another uniform change will do the trick haha

Anonymous said...

Dekalb should echo what Forsyth just did and eliminate unnecessary middle management positions via layoffs. There has been much needed fat trimming in DKPD for years now.

Anonymous said...

If butt kissers were people, Conroy would be China. I mean if the new Chief had a peanut butter sandwich for lunch, he could tell you if the bread was spread with smooth or chunky.
To 5:40
You got a real thing for Major White. You get on here at least once a month to throw him under the bus.

Anonymous said...

Give the guy a break! He's not even yet and people want to bash him because he's from Dallas and Bolton was from Dallas. What if you applied for a job somewhere else. Should you not get the job because you worked for DeKalb and we've had a ton of dirty cops get fired and indicted? Plus, he's not even from Dallas. He's just worked there for a few years. Read his bio and you'll see he actually spent most of his time in Florida and NY. Just because Atlanta didn't hire him doesn't mean he's a subpar candidate. Maybe he wasn't what they were looking for. Maybe they just wanted someone from the inside no matter who the other candidates were.

This guy has a Phd and was a professor at the University of Rochester Medical Center. That doesn't sound to me like someone who clicked a few links at some online diploma mill. He's worked for a few departments and I don't see any evidence of him being a bad guy, unlike when Bolton and Graham came here.

I welcome him and look forward to working for him. I'll base my opinion on what he actually does for us and the department.

Anonymous said...

DKPD probably could use a "clinical psychologist."

Anonymous said...

I heard the new chief on today's news clip at 5 on channel 2. He addressed pay briefly when asked. His answer didnt give the impression that pay increases would even be a consideration (what a surprise). He said that in lieu of the pay issue that he is hopeful that we may be receptive to a chief that's in our corner. We need a step above that Chief ....We need a chief that will assess, truly assess what is going on (bad morale is not JUST from corrupt officers being arrested like the news suggests) We need someone that will FIGHT for us when it comes to making some REAL changes, not just political talking point fluff. Otherwise as they say..."Meet the new boss.....same as the old boss"

-Serenity Now

Just want to do my job...without interference. said...

SSDD....Same Stuff Different Day.

Anonymous said...

Chief if you want real answers go around and speak with the Sergeants and 5 year MPO Officers. If you want lies and no changes speak to everyone above that rank.

Anonymous said...

We're going on 6 yrs now with no pay increase of any kind. I mean how much longer must we suffer in this place giving all we can and be asked to come in and continue to deliver more. It's beyond just stupidity at this point and if the new Chief as any intelligence to go along with his wall of degrees and accomplishments then he will also see the need to boost moral....Hey listen up...."a PEP TALK ain't gonna do it Chief!!!"

Anonymous said...

Talking about uniforms, we absolutely look like a bunch of idiots to other agencies. We have different color patches to go with all the different looking uniforms. It's stupid looking. Whatever happened to a police dept having one patch color for their uniforms. I mean seriously, Atlanta has one patch, Gwinnett has one patch, Cobb Co has one patch, DKSO has one patch, Clayton CO PD has one patch, Henry Co PD has one patch need I go on and every other police department in the State of Georgia and the whole damn country...

C'mon man who in the hell came up with this idiotic idea of having different patch colors. It really does look freaking stupid. Think about it. Just more ways to waste and spend money....just pick one and let's stick to it. It's like the uniform. Can we not stick to a color and style and just leave it at that instead of changing every 5yrs

Anonymous said...

"A chief that's in our corner ".... yeah, that a few bucks will get you a trip on MARTA.

Chief, I wish you luck. For now, your officers will probably remind you of an abused dog....he or she wants to trust and let down their guard but, they've been screwed one time too many. You're gonna need the advanced degree... your new officers don't trust anyone in a white shirt or with ties to Decatur.

Anonymous said...

`SO WHAT IF HE HAS A PHD??? Wiz Miller was an attorney. Look what happened!!! Burell wins again!! He will not be prosecuted because he has complied with the conditions of the courts.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully the new Chief will get rid of that snake Major Karen Anderson. I will not hold my breath though, because I am sure that she has already started kissing the new chief's butt. She should have been gone long ago with the other APD baggage. She is of no use at DKPD. Her position should have been for someone who has been with DKPD and not from the outside.

Anonymous said...

From the press release about the new chief- "896 sworn officers and additional 50 cadets"....

Wow!..... that's the first time I've seen someone throw out a number under a thousand. Weren't they always saying 1200?

Anonymous said...

Dekalb is much smaller now and growing smaller day by day with annexations. You don't need the number of officers you needed 20 years ago. It has become a demographic niche like FUBU.

Anonymous said...

Anon 2/21 10:14 am - it's been 896 since I left in 2008. I should know...I had the list of sworn DeKalb officers from POST. When DeKalb would throw out that 1,000+ number, they were including the 911 operators, crime scene, investigative aides...anyone that had to be certified by POST. Whatever...

Anonymous said...

1,112 sworn officers if you check the count web page....

From the County Web site: The DeKalb County Police Department currently operates out of six area precincts. Within those six precincts are approximately 1,112 sworn police officers and 498 support staff employees.

Why do you guys write "parked facing the wrong way tickets" to homeowners on small streets? Is this a broken windows, formal social control thing? Or just a revenue, ticket quota thing?

Also, why sign the ticket with just a badge number? How am I supposed to cross reference that to find the Officer's name?

Anonymous said...

@9:38PM on 2-19.....care to elaborate?????

Anonymous said...

Hopefully the new guy will be better than what we currently have. I mean under Gassner and Williams you can be untruthful and keep your job. You can run people for personal reasons on NCIC and remain in TAC. Those two need to go.

Anonymous said...

Anon 9:07
That matter is currently being investigated by I.A. Is it OK with you if we let them finish the investigation before you start firing Assist. Chiefs?

Anonymous said...

I asked before....I'll ask again.....

Who in Tac is running tags???...last I heard it was Don Frank....but he was on CEO Detail at the time....

Can someone please explain???....

And what asst. chief is being investigated now and for what???

To Chief Alexander,
I think one of our biggest problems is lack of ability to actually police. 100% of the police work is done by MPOs and below. I sat in a meeting with 6 line officers and 4 supervisors the other day. If one supervisor can't manage 6 officers, there is something seriously wrong with this place. The fat really needs to be trimmed. The majority of supervisors here got promoted from a corrupt buddy system (not from their own merits or work ethic). Most of them don't have common sense because they haven't worked a basic police function in so long. The majority utilize the tremendous amount of downtime on their hands by micromanaging officers. They often focus on establishing their dominance by giving mundane orders and using administrate nonsense.

Semi-Fictitious Example:
Sgt: "Officer 59 with me"
(officer stops policing, either drives several miles (uniform) or walks from his desk to the other side of the building (CID).
Officer: "Yeah sarge"
Sgt: "The Lt and I noticed a problem, you need to tie your shoe. Don't ever do that again, now get out of here".

This prevents officers from making their own common sense decisions and turns line officers into mindless zombies aka "report takers". Those that still have the ability to think, just get frustrated by the lack of common sense and efficiency and seek employment elsewhere. Almost everyone from Asst Chiefs, Asst Chief Aides (Really?), Majors, Captains, Lieutenants and Sergeants at the end of the day, don't work, but will fight to the death to convince you they do. Massive retirements or back to the road policy is in order. Net teams need to be disbanded and put on the road. This would free up more of an officer's time, so they can actually investigate a basic crime and make an arrest. This in itself would cut down call volume because both parties tend to continue to call or utilize police resources when a situation is simply "deferred" instead of handled.

The County is flat broke. For the police, Additional means of revenue and resources need to be utilized: Federal Grants for equipment (County Wide, not just niche groups), A K9 equipped hwy drug interdiction team (Hidta est. 1 billion of cash and drugs flows through Atlanta/Dekalb?) and Narcotics money and vehicle seizures (Why is the DA's and Chiefs office always getting their slimy hands on?).

Just some considerations.

PS: I've only met Maj White a couple of times, but one time when I did, he handled a situation superbly.

Anonymous said...

To the new Cheif of Police:
I am a retired Dekalb County Police Sergeant, and I will give you some insight into the problems with the Police Dept from MY angle. You may not like what I am about to say, but its the truth so here goes:
First, metro Atlanta is a strange bird. White flight was invented here, and the neighborhoods around it have been changing my whole life. Therefore the officers that work(ed) here either are not from Dekalb, or WERE from Dekalb years ago and moved out for an environment that reminds them of how it used to be when they were younger and lived in Dekalb. Its not about race to them, its about culture, TRAFFIC JAMS, the lack of jobs, and the absolutely AWFUL Dekalb school system. I was born and raised in the south side of Decatur....before it became a war zone. I commuted 60 miles one way to give my family a lifestyle than Dekalb could never provide because Dekalb is an URBAN environment.
Second, the day I became a Dekalb Police Officer was one of the proudest days of my life. It stayed that way until crooked POLITICIANS were elected by citizens who decided they would rather have a black crook running the show that anyone else who was competent. Racism works both ways here and all areas of life in Dekalb has been hurt by these crooks. When they came to power they viewed the police dept as THIER private police force and considered themselves above the law. When we didnt go along with it, they cut off funding and promoted likeminded crooks in the dept to positions of high rank above us...like Don Frank. A lot of us stayed to try and raise enough hell about these criminals hoping the federal goverment would step in. Even one of our own, Derwin Brown, was murdered by one of them. He and his buddys were caught and still the Feds didnt step in.
Third, a great many officers, Dekalbs finest sons and daughters, who loved Dekalb were hurt and thier careers slowed, stopped, or ruined by these elected criminal clowns who came to power. We tried really hard to stop them, for the law abiding citizens of Dekalb County.
Cheif, if you are a wise man, you will listen to the retired Dekalb officers if you truly want to know how to fix this department.

To anon 1:14 you were doing so well and making great points especially the points about people getting promoted on their own merits. But you lost us all when you gave Maj white kudos this guy has been spoon fed every promotional exam and rode every coat tail and kissed every ass he needed to to get where he is. He is a politician or better yet a used car salesman he will tell you what you want to hear and act like your best friend and then cut your throat when you turn around. He is a bully that hides behind a badge I know because I worked with him on the road and saw him bully people and beat them when they did not deserve it. This guy has to go and I hope the new chief can see through his smoke screen and b/s

After reading 54 blogs on this site, its a wonder that one who who reads this can make any sense at all of what is trying to be said. Simply put.....What a fucked up mess.

People....when you write a blog, write it in a way to make a person understand what you are trying to say. Currently, words are flying all over and not making any sense what you are trying t say.

After you have figured this out, then you can talk about who you love and who you hate.

As far as the new chief is concerned, give the guy a chance, because if he fucks up, like all of the previous bunch, he too will hang himself. If he works out, then maybe the "change" finally came to the PD.

So do not forget, proof read your blog before you publish it

Stop the damn ticket quotas Chief. Allow officers to get back to being good working officers and not revenue agents. Tickets will come if you are policing but setting all standards on quantity of tickets and not quality of policing is killing this department. Get the supervisors back out on the roads and let them see what is actually going on. This may be more effective in locating bad apples than just looking at their stats. Special units and rewards for tickets need to be controlled. You seem to have the background now lets hope that you don't just fall into the same old traps as others before. Stop these quotas and harassment by superiors over revenue generation. The citizens deserve a professional officer when they call and a resolution to their problem, not a ticket to help Decatur fund corruption!

Anonymous said...

Dude, I think you have a total crush on Maj. White You cant stop talking bad about him. You are definately jealous. So 17 years ago you were an MPO with him at West Precinct, and you got mad because me made CID/Sgt/Lt/Capt & Major, and your still an MPO because your lazy and cant follow directions?? Say what you want about how and why he has been promoted, it doesnt matter. I actually work for him now and he doesnt walk around the office with a chip on his shoulder. He has no problem walking up to your desk and talking to you like a man, he doesnt expect you to address him as Major or King. Get a life you 1300 badge MPO just buying your time waiting on retirement

8:37 AM - Amen. Vernon Jones was the beginning of the end for DeKalb County. I don't think I need to elaborate, plus, I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Anonymous said...

1:14 and 8:37 are right on the mark!

Anonymous said...

Lets REALLY show him what matters around here and get out there and triple our citation productivity like real cops do and Decatur wants. Nothing will change...

Anonymous said...

Oh yes, in regards to 8:37 AM, a few more things to remember:
(1) The best cops never really wanted to be cops, but always enjoyed helping folks, a good fight, fast cars, and guns, and being a cop was a good way to do that. Lowering the hiring standards to where anybody can be a cop is the WORST thing you can do. This job is NOT for just anybody. You have to have a certain mindset to do it correctly and safely.
(2) The really best cops think like a perp. Thats why theyre so good at catching them.
(3) The only way to keep the really good cops, the ones that are good at what they do is to pay them well and have some perks that go with the job so they can AFFORD to remain a good cop and raise thier families. Otherwise....you loose the ones who WANT to be a cop more than anything to the other side. By that time however, you have also already lost the ones that only did it because they loved helping people, and its too late.
DeKalb politicians, and the folks who elected them, crossed the threshold of not caring about the cops a long, long time ago. We have been treated like trash for years now and you, as the new chief of police, have a difficult task ahead of you. It will be impossible if you dont have the officers of the Dekalb County Police Department you on your side.

Anonymous said...

In all reality this guy is overqualified for this shithole. My money says 6 months and he abandons ship like every other competent professional that has worked here.

Anonymous said...

Dekalb County government sees no differesne between a good police officer and any other county employee. No disrespect to librarians but they have the same status as a police officer as far as the BOC is concerned. The real ruin of the PD started in the year 2000.

This is some funny stuff, I couldnt make this shit up if I had to. We cant come together as a department and all you have on this blog is cowards. LoFlyer said...

Anon 8:37. Well said! Much of the damage occurred just before and during the Vernon Jones administration.
Most of us were praying CEO Ellis would clean up the mess.
Instead what we got was a "yuppie" lawyer who enjoys the finer things in life, at considerable expense to the citizens and employees, to say nothing of some damned expensive contracts that were blatantly political and self-serving.
I assume the new chief, Alexander has the same "fire without cause" clause in his contract that prevents any director or manager speaking out against the insanity that passes for DeKalb government nowadays. I talked to half a dozen directors about the incorporation of the city of Dunwoody. Everyone of us knew this was going to hurt DeKalb citizens and government. None of us could speak of our honest opinion to the BOC/CEO because we all damn well knew we would be fracken' fired. DeKalb political leaders then doubled down on their insane stupidity with Brookhaven in 2012. Again no one in management positions could express their true opinion on the subject because of the "fire without cause clause in their employment contract.
I wish chief Alexander the best. You guys and gals need to understand that under the present DeKalb management employment contract the new chief will be limited in what he can do and say without being fired for "no cause".
This truly sux.
Stay safe out there guys and gals!

The Sgt. in training.... Really..... I don't think he was untruthful... I think he was human.... Check your facts before passing judgement... If he was untruthful, I think he would have been fired like others.... I wish I could say the same for others in training pass and present... I know him personally and that's not his character....

What is the infatuation with Major white ...I worked with him in uniform and he was a hard working officer and dependable....so he makes friends and uses his connections to get promoted tell me who here would no do the same I would and I did.....the sad thing is his rank has made him an egomaniac and changed him just like it does to a lot of people ....what goes up must come down and when you land hard if you have treated people right you will have friends to support you and if you have treated people wrong then the fall will be a very lonely one......so stop all this crap and trying to fight with each other on this blog it is not productive.

Anonymous said...

Why don't you tell us the facts that got him demoted?

To all the people who are upset about the Officer who kept his job because of untruthfullness instead of being fired, give it a break.... Anonymous said...

The paper reporting they giving Dr. Alexander $162 ,600 . We don't have a money problem in Dekalb. The commissioners can't give the rest of us a dime, but these people come in and make a career salary. I guess the people at police department,s morale will improve on this.

Hey when is the next tryout for swat and k-9 I want to join because I live way up in north ga and need to get a take home car now that gas is 4.00 a gallon......why can't I do this if one of the k-9 officers and a swat member has a take home car and they live in dalton which is almost in Chattanooga......

Anonymous said...

Morale what a joke, we have had 30 officers leave since Janurary 1st and more are schedule to resigned.
We had over 150 officers leave in 2012 due to terminations, resignations and retirement..

How many years will it take to replace all these officers?

With no pay raises in sight and the current retirement packages one of the worst in the state, the place is doomed.

The BOC only cares about what they think makes them look good to the citizens.

What happen to the special Police Tax Digest?

I bet it's gone to another fund in the county.

They can't pay back the 40 Million spent in error from the Bond Fund. If that was an error then the citizens of this are stupid to believe that statement.

I'm glad I live far away from this place.

Anonymous said...

That was a lost for training... He is a good person and supervisor.... What a shame.... You have Instructors there that can't even pass Firearms Instructors School unless the County put on the class... Once again who is a Master Instructor at DeKalb???

Anonymous said...

Gov Deal, today you made a good deal on behalf of the Dekalb citizens. Thank you. I am a tax payer who saw this moment coming many years ago. You have earned your pay for the reminder of your term.

All the complaining and back stabbing on this blog makes me wonder who would have my back in an emergency. Scary to think that, but look at all the comments here. If you have a problem, be a grown up and go through the proper channels instead of this.

If we are lucky when the Govenor finishes getting rid of the school board members he will focus on the corruption in the BOC, Planning and Development, Business Licensing, and Zoning. They are all taking money under the table. This County is embarassing get rid of everyone.

But the past 5 have shown thier real colors. All we can do is hold on for the ride.

As far as any supervisor goes...

Abe Lincoln once said. " To see the real truth in man.....Give him Power".

I think that speaks more than volume.

How about using some of the 500 million to retain veterans rather than hiring recruits. Dekalb truly is the Special Olympics of government.

"Why do you guys write "parked facing the wrong way tickets" to homeowners on small streets? Is this a broken windows, formal social control thing? Or just a revenue, ticket quota thing?"

This is directly associated with the ticket quotas mentioned above, turning officers into revenue collectors instead of crime solvers.

I did a little research and found out that we have three swat officers and one k-9 officer that live way past the 35 mile limit from the county line and all of theses officers have a take home car. If they are in an on call status how can they respond in a timely manner and in a safe manner when they live 45 min to an hour away.

Anon 11:33, don't you have anything better to do with your time than worry about where other people live?

From what I hear, the new Chief is a "hands on" type of guy, so I'm sure he has been reading this blog. There are some good posts on here, but boy is there a lot dysfunction and outright childish crap going around amongst ourselves on here too.

We are our own worst enemies at times, from no cohesion among one another to crashing cars (which WILL happen in this job, but its happening too much, which means take home cars WILL NOT happen). How can we expect others above us to clean up their act when we can't even clean up our own. Think about it.

I heard the Chief may come around and speak to line officers to see what we have to say. Maybe its just for show and maybe it isn't...who knows. My advice is to think about what you might say and have the balls to speak up. Make sure its a real issue and not something stupid. Chances are nothing may change, but if someone is asking, give them the truth.

SERENITY NOW

@Feb 26, 7:16pm. Why do you keep asking the same question. Your getting the ticket because you are WRONG! It doesnt matter if you live on the street or if its a small street. Its just like every other citation issued at an officers discretion.....hope that answers your question.

Anonymous said...

@7:16
The question one should be asking is "why do people park facing the wrong direction". Not asking why the police are doing their job. The police write these tickets because that's part of theirr job. Some officers chose to uphold that end of the bargain while others chose not to. But, If you don't like the law, you can talk to your legislators and ask them to get the law removed. (let us know how that works out for you.)

Another possible reason is that maybe a citizen in that neighborhood complained about the violations and asked us to handle it.

Hope this helps answer your question.

To anon 10:31 I must have struck a nerve or you are one of the officers using a county car and county gas to drive an hour home each day. The rest of us are paying 4.00 a gallon for gas to come to work and do our job but its ok for you and the chosen few to break the rules and do what the hell you want. Just like we are all suppose to wear the standard uniform on part time jobs but not swat they can wear what they want .....If the county has a policy in place then lets all stick by the policy including swat and k-9 and tac and all of special ops

Thats great..the new Chief is going to go around and visit the precincts.Vern Jones did the same thing.I remember when Jones visited the north precinct he walked into the rollcall room and the first thing he said...LOOKS LIKE WE NEED TO MAKE THIS PRECINCT ALITTLE DARKER.

Anonymous said...

I never claimed to not be "WRONG" but after parking that way on my street, which is not a cut-through, for five years, (it uses less gas than turning around), my neighbors and I are now getting these tickets while NONE of the burglaries on our street have been solved. This naturally makes me really wonder who and what your resources are targeting when patrolling my street. I literally got another ticket on the way to the cash register that is Recorders Court to pay the first one. So yeah I'm pretty curious what the agenda is, and can't wait to move away from it.

Chief says life's not fair, get used to it and be thankful you have a job because obviously you aren't capable of working anywhere else.

Anonymous said...

We should give the SWAT cars to the TRT guys. TRT is better trained, more disciplined, and more proactive. The standards to get into TRT are harder than SWAT.

The Sheepervisors are waiting on their marching orders so the new agenda will be coming to a roll call room near you shortly.

Anon 6:52 you seem to have a real issue with SWAT and K9 and all specialized units. Could it be that they turned you down when you applied??? Just stating the obvious. I'd quit worrying about uniforms and just do your job. The rest of us could care less because there are much bigger issues like pay, insurance, pensions, and corruption to worry about than what someone wears at a part time job.

We have finally reached the threshold of Hell and sooooo many of you officer's are making it worse by being so divided.

Look if you want to have the use of a take home car then apply to be in CID, Major Felony, SOD, bomb, K-9, SWAT, etc, etc. These guys all bust their asses and are called out on a frequent basis to handle incidents at all days and hours. This includes their off-days.

Now I will say I've been there and it has it's rewards but I also hated being called out on my off-day or during a family function or not being able to go to far from the house for fear that I my get called into work. I enjoy being back in uniform.

It's not as great as it my sound to some of you but having a take home car comes with responsibilities that I no longer have to worry about. You're always tied to this dept. So all I can say is if that's what you want then apply to transfer, but be careful what you ask for, you may just get it.

Whole reward the ticket writers with take home cars is a crock of sh*t. We all know that TAC has never been called in after hours to write more tickets. These take homes are riding around on part-time jobs, parked with engine on to keep warm or cool when sitting in front of night club, patrolling for private security companies, etc. Need to see the fuel consumption off duty versus on duty. You should be able to purchase your own gas to go to your cash paying part time. Hopefully the new chief gets control of the ticket quota and take home rewards program.

Dear Chief..

I pray that you'll listen.. I mean really listen to some of your veteran officers and supervisors. By this, I mean 20+ year employees; those dedicated to the county. Those that haven't been in specialized positions longer than they've been on the road. Those that have fought for whats right, and opposed whats wrong. Those Supervisors that have been moved because of doing the right thing. Listen closely to those who tell you things that you will find unthinkable, and down right unbeliveable. Listen to the ones who tell you these stories that in your wildest dreams could never be true. When you find that officer or supervisor that's telling you this, then believe him/her. Because it is happening, and still is to this very day. The things that go on are so incredible that no one will believe us. We need you to listen Chief. We need you to believe us, and we need you to help us. As I write this (forgive the spelling errors) there are people holding rank that will do or say anything to retain it or even dream of being promoted by you. Dont fall victim to this as others have. There are Lt's and above polishing thier boots and badges and pressing their white shirts in order to impress you. Don't be a victim of these moles who'd do anything to advance.

They are out there. Chief, in all honesty, I can only really name two, maybe three people who actually should retain the rank of Major or better. But right now, all of them and I mean ALL of them are getting fresh haircuts in order to look like they know what they're doing. They dont have a clue. Some have been off the road and out of touch for so many years that it's unbelieveable they're even allowed to maintain POST certificates. And those Internet College degrees? Come on Chief, I'm sure you'll see right through it. If you're a serious leader and serious about righting this sinking ship, a college degree from the internet isn't something that you should consider. What you should consider is a sort of system where you have a board of 9 20+ year employees to provide you guidance and suggestions. We "grunts" know who the real leaders are, those that we have worked with and trust.

I don't know Chief, but I'm thinking you're hands will be full for quite a while. You're email in-box will be stuffed with love notes about how great "I am!" I hope you have a iron gut that can handle of pile of dog s#it you'll be fed for these parasites that want to be promoted by you. But I do hope you can repair the damage done.

Be very careful on who you select as your civilian staff. In fact, it might be best to bring in an executive secretary serving a fortune 500 company from a Temp agency for a while to assist you with your day to day duties. 99% of the civilian staffers love to talk it up with others, and thats how a lot of things leak.

Good luck Chief, you're going to need it. THis 20+ year officer is hopeful, but not stupid enough to count on you doing the right thing.

All police problems and due to a lack of supervison. This is a fact wether you like it or not. A competent supervisor runs a good watch. Period.

Anonymous said...

Good Luck with your new Chief but I cant for the life of me figure why he would take this job if he is worth a crap at all. He is obviously just stopping by to add to his resume. Being hired by a crook whose obviously on his way out one way or another and a new CEO gone have to have his own yes man. Sad to say but there is little hope for DKPD. Run while you can.

Anon 6:52
I think SWAT is on call 24 hours a day. Maybe that is why they wear a SWAT uniform? I mean a DeKalb Police SWAT officer wearing a DeKalb Police SWAT uniform and you really think that is near the top of the list of problems this department has? You really just can not be that dumb.

We are having police officers arrested and charged with felonies and you are worrying about a damn SWAT uniform. Come on man!

Anonymous said...

I have to say that TRT should have take home cars. They definitely are better trained. They are way more tactical that's for sure.

I don't quite understand why the Dekalb SWAT & K-9 officers think that they can't wear the standard issued uniform like the rest of us. I mean other agencies do it, all over the State of Georgia, but no not here in Dekalb. Our Swat & K-9 officers need their pajamas's. Oh and by the way why don't you guys at least wash them occasionally. You look truly UN-professional in those pajamas's.

And put a little polish on your shoes.

I agree we have much larger issues other than what uniform to wear or who has what. I don't think he has a problem with swat or any other specialized unit. These units are a vital part of a functioning department. The problem is every sworn officer had to sign for a general order stating that while working a part time job everyone will wear the class b issued uniform. This is just like going to CID or sod or swat or k-9 it is a requirement that you live a certain distance from the county line or you can even apply for these positions. These are just two examples there are a lot more through out our department the problem is we have uniformity of any sort from our uniforms to how each precinct is run. The officers who are working hard and want to advance or try other divisions get discouraged when they are told not to apply because you live to far away and here are other officers who live 50 plus miles away from the county line and can't possibly respond in a timely manner.
No one has a problem with anyone it is just hard to motivate guys to bust their ass out here when you see how others have special treatment ....look a tax officer violated the law with Gucci and I hear other charges may be coming and that officer is still in tac. The chosen few will cause the morale to be bad for all of us.

Anonymous said...

There a large number of detectives who have never been called out unless they are on call. So why does everyone have a take home car in CID?

The county can save millions of dollars in fuel and vehicle maintenance. These cars are use just like it's their POV and they go everywhere in them.

Anonymous said...

So when SWAT goes to the supermarket off duty or out to eat with their family do they wear their SWAT uniform? If on call should they really be working the door of a club where they have been paid to stay for four or five hours. If a club has all SWAT officers at their door does that mean that they would all leave and that owner would not have any of his paid protection?

There are plenty of private sector jobs for retired officers in this country now. You can easily make more $ if willing to travel.

2:50pm, hi! Welcome to the blog. I hope you are enjoying your first year of being a police officer! It's exciting, isn't it!

No, swat does not wear their uniforms 24/7, even though they are on call 24/7. If they have a family function that is important and they don't want to get called out, they have to request time off from swat, even if it is on their off time. If they are working j2 and a call comes out, they leave the j2.

If you spent less time complaining and more time working hard and studying, you could get into CID or Special Ops and get your very own take home car! It's not that hard with the turnover rate in this department! I know, it's just easier to complain and blame everyone else.

Really ? Take home cars, patches ? Old guys are worrying about their pensions, new guys better be worrying about where you are going to work, when all these new cities become reality. They used to talk about the "City of Dekalb", way back before DeKalb became a bad word . We could have had it all, but like they say, " You get the kind of govt you deserve ". Good job to the totally uninformed, ignorant voters who unconsiousably vote strictly on race. Getting the best person for the job will never happen again in this county . Better get a jump on these other dept's while you still can . Don't sweat the bad rep from Dekalb. These other agencies know that if you could handle it here, you can handle it anywhere. You will be a good hire for somebody that will appreciate your experience and professionalism for a change .
