Burrell A No Show, Awaits Decision of Governor's Panel

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis didn’t show up for work at his county offices Wednesday morning to attend a meeting called by his chief of staff for all of the employees who work directly for the CEO.

The question wafting in DeKalb is how long he can hold onto that job after Tuesday’s indictment of him on 15 counts that include extortion, theft and conspiracy. Fourteen of the counts are felonies.

The answer will likely come from Gov. Nathan Deal, who must decide if Ellis is more like Tyrone Brooks or Victor Hill.

Earlier this month, Deal appointed the Legislature’s two top Democrats and Republican Attorney General Sam Olens to review whether the 30 counts of fraud Brooks faces make him unfit to continuing serving in the state House.

But in April, Deal sidestepped setting up a similar panel to review suspending Hill from office, saying voters chose him as Clayton County Sheriff aware of the 32 felony counts against him.

In those cases, as with Ellis, the panel’s recommendations would go to Deal, who could have the final say on suspending the elected official from office.

Well, sports fans,Ellis really sh*t in his CEO nest today. He blew off a scheduled, advertised pay-raise meeting with the "sanitation bubba's",today !! For real. Now he is fresh out of friend's,for sure. Guess all that so called "college learning" is not exactly paying off for him,or the new guy @ 34. Sound's like "biz as usual". Remind's me of when Donald Berry made sgt., out of V.J.'s "security detail",cut blue order sent him to uny/south-side. He just came strolling into the tac office,Mon.am,in his motor uniform, and just stayed,BY GOD,no guestions asked!! RULE'S FOR SOME,EXCEPTION'S FOR OTHER'S!!!!!!!

Anon 6:57 Precisely, here is my comment to the previous thread regarding a public petition by DeKalb citizens to the DeKalb state delegation to abolish the CEO form of government and replace it with the county manager form of government. The CEO's office is a huge waste of time and money.
From previous thread:
"Anon 9:53, I hadn't considered that thought. Brilliant! After thinking about it a petition from the citizens to address issues is an important right of American citizens and been used successfully many times to rectify real and perceived improprieties.
It would be easy to do, set up a web-site, post volunteers in public areas, and troll for signers. I don't think there will be a lack of volunteers or signatures.
Now this brings up several questions. Exactly what are the goals of the petition?
My opinion is that it would abolish DeKalb's CEO form of government and install the county manager/county chairman form of government. That needs to be debated and specified.
We need advice on the legalities behind a public petition and where we can post volunteers.
We need to find enough volunteers willing to spend a couple of four hour days canvasing for signers.
We need to survey the county for best public locations for access to the citizens.
I like this idea of a public petition and will research and run with the issue.
The DOS blog can help by providing guidance on what the DeKalb rules and regulations are on canvasing for signers on county property.
One last thought. While many of you might be tempted to sign a petition to abolish the DeKalb CEO office consider the past and present history of retribution by DeKalb political officials of employees dissent against DeKalb policies and political decisions. This is no game, I advise no active employee or officer participate in this campaign. You can anonymously advise us but this “game” is best left to people like me that the county cannot reach out and touch.
I intend to pursue this.
This county has too many good employees and citizens to allow the politicians to run the county into the fracken' ground with out trying something to stop these bozo's driving the county to ruins.
Who's with me?
KenC"
Best of luck guys and gals!
Yours truly

Dekalb County is full of gangsters (Street and Corporate).

There are more gangsters in Dekalb County Government than on Candler Rd.

He was at the police department with the Chief on Thursday . It was a meet and greet and praise them for soving crimes.
That what we are paid to do and now he shows up to thank everyone.
When will he realize we have no trust in him.
Chief Alexander was hired by him, so he has to support him no matter what.
I support the new Chief for how long is unknown.

ANON 6:57 "I agree with you 100%." So sad, but so true. That's why we are trying to move out of here ASAP!

Did anyone else notice that Mr. Ellis managed to get his picture removed from Dekalbmugs.com ? That doesn't seem to happen for officers when we get arrested, what makes him so damn special?

Anon 12:20 You hit one of the issues spot on. The double standard between political leadership and staff, and the 99 percent of the employees with many of them being underpaid and overworked. Meanwhile you never see the political leaders and staff breaking a sweat and are the highest paid in the metro area. When they get caught, like Keith Barker, they quietly resign and never held accountable.
OT. I have mentioned over the last year, I have gotten into the sport of skeet/trap shooting. In a year I progressed from never having shot at a moving target or clay to mastering some of it. I graduated to a bastard contraption called the five stand and recently started shooting "sporting clays". The best description of sporting clays is "golf with a shotgun", its challenging and you get a lot of tough presentations of the clays, its fun as hell and you can find some gun clubs that offer it on a limited basis to the public at a fairly reasonable price. (Cherokee gun club near Gainsville) Today I hit the range at Charlie Elliot and teamed up with a guy on the five-stand, and he was good from the start, I was mediocre on the first two rounds of clays, I was shooting with my trusty Remington 870 pump which is considerably lighter than my over/under which requires some muscle to move the barrel. With the lighter barrel of the R-870 I was moving the barrel to fast to properly track and lead the clay. On the third round I got into the "groove" and shot 80 percent hits. You guys and gals should give it a try. It is fracken' challenging as hell, and you will be a better shot if you can master it. The added bonus for me is that you get to shoot and blow up targets, and its all fracken' legal.
Stay safe guys and gals! I would watch out what you say about Ellis around work. DeKalb politicians have a history of vindictive retaliation if they don't like what your saying, no matter how truthful or factual your statements are. It was pure luck that I made it through 25 years of DeKalb government with the likes of Vern Jones and Burrel Ellis in charge!

Our dear MR. CEO did not want to appear at any function because he is now known as the up and coming convicted felon. He will be joining the ranks of his fellow felons in this wonderful county which WSB and Fox5 Atlanta always have a story to tell. DeKalb is the haven for felons who commit more crime than ANYWHERE in the state.

W.Burrell Ellis's ego and stupidity has finally caught up his photogenic personality and now he is in a world of shit. The only way he could possible get out of this current mess, is to take some of that campaign money and buy off his advisories, which is highly unlikely.

Good bye Burrell....See you in the next 30 years somewhere making license plates.

Yeah, speaking of Keith Barker, when he got caught he got paid by the county $ 200,000 and was allowed to resign with the promise that Ellis would get him hired as shitty manager at Clarkston. Ask the citizens in Clarkston what they think about him. Going to be interesting when he testifies in Ellis's trial.

Anon 9:08. Either Ellis turns and burns a bigger crook. Or he's going to jail.
As most have noted, Ellis comes across or is perceived as an intelligent, courteous and photogenic politician and lawyer.
That's only going to help with his true believers. Take note of who and what supports CEO Ellis during this scandal for future reference.
This ain't over by a long-shot.

At Burrel's "I'm not guilty" rally today, he said he is working on getting us all cost of living raises next year. Will we be getting raises commensurate with what we should have received going back to 2008? Social Security's Automatic Cost of Living Increase going back that far adds up to a 13.4% raise! Or we could just go by 3% per year, which was a pretty standard merit raise. That would be a 15% raise.

You know what's really going to happen. We're going to get a 2% "raise" and the county is going to decrease what they put in the pension by 2% and our contribution will be increased by 2%.

Who believes Ellis? Less than 1% of Dekalb County Citizen's.
When Ellis is convicted, let's party like 1999.

Ellis is the most hated man in Dekalb.

Does anyone ever update the dekalbpolice.com web site as to current command staff etc. It doesn't seem so and the web site is too industrial looking. Take a look.

Party like it's 1999? Knowing that 8 years of Vernon and 5 years of Ellis are coming up, I don't think that would be very fun party.

Next round of corruption is coming with the out sourcing of the planning department. Already in the works and the major players are lining up. Hope the DA is already got his info.

Release the damn report! What the hell do they want to hide since he proclaimed his innocence. If the report cleared him I'm sure it would have been sent out the next morning in one of his bs e-mails.
