What's The Cost?

Chief Cedric still has the indicted Burrell Ellis under constant guard 24 hours a day 7 days week. The financial cost to the taxpayers is astronomical.

Take the officers who have to watch his house 24 hours a day.  What is that cost? Pulling numbers out of the air, lets say it's costing a minimum of $35.00 an hour. That includes the cost of the patrol car that's running 24/7 and the officers salary. That comes out to be $840 a day, $5880 a week, $23,520 a month and $282,240 a year!

Now throw in his personal drivers and his fleet of vehicles and your looking at, what, a million bucks a year?

And you thought Chief Cedric would be any different by doing the right thing.

No, the madness continues.

The police department protecting a perp. No wonder the citizens dont trust Dekalb Police.

I got a great idea. Plead guilty and take your sorry ass to prison and you will have 24 hour security. What the hell are you afraid of, some of your co - horts coming after you so that you can't turn evidence on them and save your little nerdy ass! The officer in front of your house can't even go to take a leak without you phoning the chief and reporting them. Hope they aren't drying out their pants and not see anything if the shit hits the fan. The command staff should be charged for ordering their officers to guard an indicted criminal. Nothing different than the ten that got arrested earlier this year.

Something I've never understood is that the CEO's security detail is supposedly provided by SO, but he has a PD unit sit outside his house 24.7. How does that work exactly?

Stupidity is running rampant in this department. I truly thought that we were finally going to see some positive changes with the new Chief....NOT!!! How many freaking supervisors does this place really need, are you kidding me, really...

We are losing officer's faster than sand thru an hour glass and we are still promoting asses. This dept can't keep warm bodies....at this pace everyone working here will be a supervisor...really Chief, really....the perfect opportunity to reduce this top heavy dept.... Brookhaven is getting ready to start up ...there is already no CID in North Precinct...why don't we just eliminate it and save the dept some money $$$$ including those positions.... OH wait I forgot it might hurt some feelings.

Like I said...stupidity, run amok. Is this the best that we can do....

one other thing... WHY THE HELL ARE WE STILL GUARDING ELLIS........

Anonymous said...

Just so everyone understands....there is no real leadership in this department. It's been a long time since we've had a real leader who would stand with the officer's and help fight the BOC for pay raises...this regime is in no way going to do that, they are all to freaking scared of losing their sacred little title...& parking space.....and I mean every last one of them asses will tuck their tail and run hid in the bushes if they thought someone was going to ask them to stand up for the officer's.... take a look:
any of A/C's...nope
any of the Major"s...nope (waiting to be A/C)
any of the Capt's...nope (all waiting their turn at bat to be Major)....
not even a Lt is willing to stand up....we are at a cross roads...it's an us & them mentality...

oh I'm sorry did I hurt your feelings.....where is the line for the Kool-Aid.

Serenity Now!!!!!!

Since I can't leave to go McDonalds near the front of his sub-division to use the bathroom.....I just go piss on his fence.

I don't mind sitting on his house detail....I'm off the day before the week long detail....and im off the following two days.....which means.....

I'M NOT OUT WRITING TICKETS!!!...AND IT EFFECTS MY SPREAD SHEET!!!....

THEN YOU YELL AT ME THAT I'M NOT DOING ENOUGH!!!

Storm is a brewing on the horizon in SOD....just watch and see!!

Leadership, leadership, leadership...you folks wouldn't know it if it hit you in the butt.

Leadership starts with YOU, you're a badge carrying police officer aren't you. How many of you have stood up at the BOC meeting...let me tell you...NONE!!!!!!!!

Blame your sergeants, lieutenants, captains, majors, and the pope for all I care. You want an answer to your problems - look in the mirror.

2nd thought, you're right, complaining anonymously on a bitch blog will solve everything.

Shut up and go write some tickets, we need the money!!!!

Oh, that uh, that there's an RV. Yeah, yeah, I borrowed it off a buddy of mine. He took my house, I took the RV. It's a good looking vehicle, ain't it?

What is the difference? Nothing. Burrell Ellis hired him and now the new police chief is returning some of the favors. This is nothing new, just a different chief. Same shit day in, day out.

It is a pity that those police officers of this county were expecting a big change. They received a change......New name of Chief, anything else that might happen, will have to wait and see.

What's the storm in SOD? I'm curious

Nothing will EVER change in the police department until majors and above have merit system protection again. Under this system everyone is afraid to speak the truth to the chief because they are afraid of being demoted. Its down right comical to see how the brass tap dances for the chief. These are grown men, with kids, who are absolutely SPINELESS! Their kids would be embarrassed if they saw their back bending, 'yessah bossing,' step n fetch it, daddy performing for the chief!

Also, kudos to all those who got promoted. However, like others have said, its make no freaking sense to promote right now. We are losing at least 10 officers a month, not 10 supervisors. When North precinct folds we will have an abundance of supervisors, then what? Im sure this chief hasnt looked that far ahead though.

Cedric Alexander needs to go back where he came from. He's making the department and everyone who works in his office look like morons. He and his goons remind me of a bunch of kids that were picked on in high school who now have power. Just because he has a degree, doesn't mean he knows how to manage a police department. We've seen it in the past where a corrupt chief from Texas tried to manage this department, but instead punched yet another hole in this sinking ship. If only someone in his office had a backbone to stand up for what is right instead of bowing down before him...

Anonymous said...

Hey Chief!!!...your 15 minutes is up!!!

Next..!

Anonymous said...

Gee, there are people jumping ship out of SOD......even the idiots at the FBI call that a clue. I guess there will be openings in that division. But who wants to go over there and have to sit in front of a perps, oh I mean the CEO's house? I only dream of a day where all could come together and call in sick. But just to be safe and save our own asses, we would all need a Doctors note to put in our file in case the joke of a command staff tried to write up the whole department. Maybe that would be a wake up call to the asshats we have for a BOC and top ranking command staff.....yeah, just a DREAM!!!!

Anonymous said...

Check out the chief's new 'mission statement' and the sentence fragment it contains. This guy has a degree? Sad!

Anonymous said...

Don't wish anything bad happen to people but Ellis your day is coming and no way you will wiggle out of this. If you wiggle out of the State charges, the Big Boys (Feds) will pick-up the charges.

Watch Channel 2 for the officers that sit infront of the CEO's house. As I was pulling out; Channel 2, was asking me questions about them. How long have they been there, is it the same people, is it the same cars/dept.cars or is it somebody else.
I hope Channel 2 gets it right and does a proper investigation.

I have to admit though, I like having the police outside my door at night and when I'm gone. I don't have to worry about perps kicking my door in.

Just want to say thank you officers for baby sitting my house!

Just saw the CEO and Chief Looser on the news about the 2 year old that got shot at Krogers.

Why in the hell is the CEO on the news about the child??...Since when does he care what happens in the county. We have people being shot all the time & now that he has 15 felony chargers on him....he takes to the air waves!!
Then Chief Looser is right behind him adding his two cents worth.

We are not going to tollerate this type of behavior in the county....okay Chief...one question to you......

Is this do as I say...... or do as I do!!!....

I think before you get on the news and start making statements of this nature....maybe you need to start looking closer to home or within your department if you still don't understand what I'm saying. You make statements like this when your own people are running out of control under your nose.
The marijuana incident was swept under the rug, along with your other so called "Asst. Chiefs" having no idea what is going on within thier own Dept.'s.(Tucker, South, CID, Narcotics & SOD)

You need to becareful on what you say on television. Your writing checks you can't cash and as you say so well, over & over.....it starts with Uniforum....

Takecare of the line and in turn the line will takecare of you. But since they are being runned into the ground and ignored.....when they turn thier backs on you....don't be suprised!

I see that all of swat just got new Tahoe’s wow I guess when you don’t really do anything but sit around and try to make your shirts look really tight on your arms that deserves a new vehicle, while the real officers are driving in crap cars to handle calls and detectives are in crap cars trying to do a good job they don’t deserve anything. Why not give Major Harris and the ILP unit new stuff they have accomplished more in 6 weeks than swat has done in two years.

Anonymous said...

To 12:20 am the question should be why the hell does ILP have take home cars? Are they investigating the 10% during their off time or are they just saving gas to and from their part time. The next question regarding swat is just how many live past the 35 mile radius that the guide line allows for. Quite a few!

Lots of good comments in between the sniping. Everyone pretty well knows my opinion on the subjects so I will not waste your time.
Anyone noticing that the AJC is placing most of the stories on Ellis on its "pay-wall" site? Seems kinda strange. I have explained in great detail to the AJC editors that I as a consumer, am not going to pay for their shoddy reporting. For the last decade and a half the AJC reported little on DeKalb government that was not a county press-release.
One of the joys of retirement is not receiving the BS press-releases via county email driving home on Friday night, usually around 6:45 PM. I was on call half the time and did not appreciate the diversion of having to read the damned things because it could be a network failure email.
You have to wonder what the county PIO was doing Monday through Thursday and then every Friday evening at 6:45 PM like clockwork, the press releases flow out.
Keep your heads down mates!

re; anom. 12:20. DAM'N GOOD QUESTION. SWAT is not the only"on call unit"that lives outside the limit's. CID,TAC,K-9,and every "bubba" with any rank is also involved. SUPERVISOR'S HAVE ALWAY'S BEEN THE WORST VIOLATOR'S(Capt's and above). Now,I will try to answer question's,with question's. Why does the PIO need a take home unit(with rumored emer.equip)? She only show's up on "day watch" scene's,anyway,OUCH!! Why do all these civilian employee's/dept head's need take home car's,when they are never/ever/ever called out?. Both can handle all that on the px. Why do supervisor's get/need brand new unit's every year, when their unit's are all low mileage, and in exceptional condition? This pertain's to all rank's,Sgt through Chief?(uniform/cid Sgt's still get the newest/oldest car's replaced first). I remember when CID did not have enough car's period, and had to check them out of a pool. Why are all these unit's reassigned/trickled down to Uniform, and CID?(every single one of these unit's are low mileage ,and in exceptional condition. GOD forbid, guess they all lost that "new car smell")! Why doe's the Chief alway's have to have more than one unit(high dollar hov's)! MAYBE,JUST MAYBE,WHEN "10-76" BEAT CAR'S, DETECTIVE CAR"S,AND TRAFFIC SPECIALIST CAR'S START BREAKING DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE FU**KING ROAD'S,SOMEBODY DOWN HERE,WILL STOP KISSING ASS,AND TAKE THEIR HEAD OUT OF THEIR ASS,AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.( I shudder to think that some officer or detective on a scene,or somebody working a p/t j-2 would put out a "63",and the closest unit would break down en-route)!! BUT!Listen up closely. This is probably what is on the horizon. APD has been driving "refurbished" unit's for year's. Their m.m. has been removing/replacing old rebuilt/refurbished part's on old unit's for a long time.(wonder if they are using "retread tires",too)? Just like us,that is why you "never/ever see an officer,or detective driving anything but an old, worn out,beat-up unit! Junk,is still junk, no matter how many times's you "jump it off"!! HEY,DON'T FORGET,THAT EVERYTHING YOU WEAR(uniform's,helmet's,swat gear, vest's,duty gear/holster's),SHOOT(pistol's/shot-gun's,rifle's ammo),alternate defensive gear(taser's,o.c.,impact weapon's),COMMUNICATE(radio's/computer terminal's/camera's,recorder's),DRIVE(veh's supposedly designed solely for L.E.),IS SUPPLIED BY THE "LOWEST BIDDER"!! Make's you wonder if the soap box derby park, midnight basketball equipment,or the dog-pound will be built by the "LOWEST BIDDER"? LET'S JUST WONDER,IF ALL THE MONEY THAT WILL BE SPENT ON THIS B.S.,COULD BE BETTER USED,BY BUYING ALL NEW POLICE UNIT'S,ASSIGNING THEM AS TAKE HOME CAR'S,AND,IF OUTSIDE THE "LIMIT'S",PARK THEM AT THE COUNTY F.D.'S LIKE GWINNETT P.D.DOE'S?? UNIT'S WILL BE MAINTAINED BETTER BT OFFICER'S AND DETECTIVE'S,AND WILL ULTIMATELY LAST LONGER,ELIMINATING THE CONSTANT REPLACEMENT/TURN-OVER RATE? WIN,WIN,FOR EVERYBODY!! I know,Iknow, all the limp-di*k's will snivel about the cost's,but the county will just piss it all away on something else(like spending over a billion, yes boy's and girl's,over a billion dollar's on the g.d. sewer system on Glenwood Rd. Just exactly why does a sewer system have to be completely replaced ,because it is full of shit?(I ought that was what they were for)? The rest of them seem to be working fine, and as advertised? Only in DeKalb! "IT IS WHAT IT IS" !!!!!!!!!!!

Can we at least assign a CLEAN car for news footage so the public can stop seeing our disgustingly filthy 15 yr old units with the decals peeling off? It looks so unprofessional.

Anonymous said...

I tell you what looks unprofessional....A police Dept that can't decide what kinda of patch it's officer's will wear.....

We look freaking ridiculous walking around with these dumbass different colored patches on our uniforms....By the way ...what color is the official patch for DKPD. Is it the original Gold or the pajama wearing Silver...I can only assume that some of us aren't wearing the official patch.......some people can screw up the simplest of things. No where else in this country...nationwide mind you, do you have different patches for officers to wear to identify their dept....Freaking unbelievable.........ONLY IN DEKALB. ...I bet the next thing is they will decide to have different colored decals on the patrol cars...may as well stay consistent...gold for gold, silver for silver....

Freakin MORONS!!!!!!!!!

Oh yea almost forgot, where do I send the requisition for the sign for my parking space....and should that be done in gold or silver. Tired of piss ants parking in my spot.

ole warhorse, great points with the cars. CID cars typically have more than 120K miles. There was a time 2003 or so when detectives would respond to hot calls and bank up line officers. The problem is now you have detectives (who are still cops) in vehicles that wont drive over 40mph and they do not have ANY emergency equipment in them. What happens when there is a detective 1/4 mile away from a sig 63 but he cant get there because he/she is in a county vehicle with no lights, siren, flashers, wig wags, strobes or whatever you want to call them. Sure any good officer will just violate traffic laws to get to where help is needed, but that is not always an option when your stuck in traffic.

We can spend millions to construct senior center, a few libraries, sidewalks for bums and prostitutes.

Is it really to much to ask for 20K to put lights and a siren in all police county vehicles.

I bet if I really look into it a case can be made against the county, are they not obligate to provide a vehicle for firt responders to respond?

does it make a difference to you if the Chief is not POST certified?

Uncle Thomas was providing security for the CEO. He has realized that he should have distance himself away from the CEO awhile back. And he wish he had not made that comment about the county prosecutor trying to make a name for himself. Uncle Thomas it is time to get out before you are next on the DA list of investigations.

How about you quit paying our officers to sit outside the corrupt CEO's house and start putting money toward some toilet paper in the men's bathroom at old 34. I'm sick and tired of that bathroom having no toilet paper. No wonder everyone in this department hates the chief. He can't even keep one simple bathroom supplied with toilet paper.

"Chief Loser" HAHAHAHAHA, I love it. That guy trying to play chief is such a moron. My 18 year old son knows more about policing and the department than he does.
