R.I.P. Brother.

Seeing that it is too early for "me" to once again start blaming the County and its faulty equipment; I'll just let Klusmann R.I.P!

Rookies drive all the junk!

I'm just praying something good comes out of his death. Maybe if we had take-homes, cars wouldn't be driven 24-7 and wouldn't drive like crap!

You will be missed. I know your family will miss you. May God be with your family and may the loving memories of your life be forever with us all. Farewell brother, we got it from here.

Its devastating to know that someone so young and at the peak of his career, could leave so abrubtly. Noone knows when their life will end and Im sure he went on watch thinking that he would return home to his family. Now there are two young boys without a father, parents without a son, and family and friends without his warm smile. Everyone please remember to stay prayed up and love everyone around you. R.I.P Brother

Sad to see an officer with so much potential loose his life. Rest in peace brother.

Does anybody have any arrangement information?

It's sad the officer lost his life, but to jump on it was a car with defaults???? Speed was the factor, not the car. I also don't understand how his scum bag is charged with murder. Can someone explain?

Very sorry to hear about this, especially for one so young and promising. My deepest condolences to family and friends.
I generally stay out of DKPD affairs, but I hung out with you guys and gals too long not to ask some questions.
One question that has come up is the mechanical condition of officer Klusmann's unit?
Another question is why is a rookie allowed to patrol alone after graduating only five months ago? I know DKPD offers exceptional training, I feel that the diverse situations of the LE environment in DeKalb require a little more than a few months of supervised work.
it might be wise to take a closer look and reassess the workload and the distractions inherent with modern LE technology, specifically the communications and data technology distractions during a high speed chase. (like texting on your computer whilst in pursuit)
I have no idea what DKPD policy is on the subject, the only answer I got on the issue was "Our officers are trained for it."
I got the distinct perception that command was aware of the issue, recognized the danger and hoping for the best.
DeKalb officers need every break they can get. I suspect the real solution for the communication and data overload is voice recognition technology and even more expensive computers, commo and a reevaluation of the workload to the solo driving officer in a chase scenario.
I have a few ideas on the subject that might help for evaluating the issue.
Best of luck guys and gals! Stay safe!

Mechanical deficiency of the vehicle has nothing to do with this crash. It was the speed at which he was driving is what this crash is about. I'm sure by now TSU has determined his speed and I'm sure we'll eventually hear once again at how the black boxes in these cars tell the whole story...stay tuned, I'm sure it's coming. I suspect that they may check all of the cars involved black boxes to see if anyone else was driving fast that night. Get ready ...

8:42am, you've never driven a dkpd unit, especially an older one, if you have to ask why people think there might have been mechanical problem with a car.

Felony murder is the charge when someone dies during the commission of a felony. He fled police in a stolen vehicle, which is a felony. Someone died because of that felony. Felony murder.

ANOM: 08:15. Length of training is just that, training. You can read all the manuals, all the county S.O.P's,watch all the video's,practice, practice practice in the academy, and during F.T.O., and drive all the old junk units. But,it all boils down to this one thing:#1,You do not learn how to "police" until you are actually out there, all by yourself.(classroom to practical application/or STREET SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS). O.J.T. is the real "learning system" in this job. Unfortunately, experience is not always the best teacher. I'm sure that this fine young "rookie" officer, had paid his dues, and was as prepared as he could poss be! THIS IS STILL ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE JOBS IN THE WORLD: YOU CAN DO EVERYTHING RIGHT AND LOSE YOUR LIFE,AND DO EVERYTHING WRONG AND WALK AWAY. I'm just sorry that I never got to meet him. It was my loss. R.I.P., my young "rookie" brother ,R.I.P..

The Chief and all leaders and veteran officers in DKPD must embrace this program.

Keeping pursuit vehicles under 100,000 miles would be a great start in this effort.

I'm truly appalled at the number of Dekalb Officers that did not attend this officers funeral . People what ever your issue is with the department dont wait until we have a tragety to try and make a point. If we don't support each other how the hell do we expect the public to support us. We are our biggest enemy Rest In Peace Brother.

Attendance.... New Birth.... Politicians....again...New Birth.... and the fact that there was a viewing where I could pay my respect...

The last funeral at New Birth left me with a bad taste...everything about New Birth..... I'd rather attend the quiet viewing where someone is not singing their own praise and blowing smoke up.....

A person also commits the offense of murder when, in the commission of a felony, he causes the death of another human being irrespective of malice.

This isn't felony murder. Where did the suspect "cause" the officer's death? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the officer and it's sad about what happened. But based on the Chief's statement to the media, this officer was no where around the second spotting. Therefore, this suspect isn't responsible for the death. He must do something to cause the death. Fleeing isn't it. If he bumped the officer's car causing him to wreck...

Rest in Peace my brother. May your family receive comfort in this time of grief. I am disappointed that there are not more posts on our brother in law enforcement death. However, posts are flooded to bitch and moan. Had the bitching and moaning paid your more or improved your quality of policing with DKPD? And the accident. I suspect speed, over-correcting or perhaps a road distraction . But one opinion I am sur of, is that rookies should not work morning watch this soon in their career.

anom 5:51. Most officer's stopped going to these funeral's,once they became a "dog and pony show" for the upper management, and county politician's. The majority of the officer's go by the visitation and pay their "sincere" respect. Poor guy will just turn into another picture on the wall @ the academy, the dept won't even remember his name before long, and he will be used as just one more example of what not to do in a chase, during in-service training. If there is any doubt re; lack of proper supervision,or training, you will see those involved "running for the high grass",and pointing fingers. The old county,"DON'T CORRECT THE PROBLEM,JUST FIX THE BLAME",is still very much alive and widely applied. Unfortunately, this will all be yesterday's news,in just a few week's. Agree or disagree, you have all seen this happen time and time again. IT'S THE NATURE OF THE BEAST! A truly sad,but brutally true commentary.
