Bonus Checks Tomorrow! (With Strings Attached)

The bonus checks will be here tomorrow the 13th.

BUT, we'll have to sign an agreement that we will remain employed here until June of 2014. If not, the county takes the bonus back.

The madness continues.

WTF.... a bonus check is a BONUS check...

June of 2014.... that's the next phase of Open Enrollment... coincidence?

I know majority needs the money. But it speaks volume if we all in solidarity say don't take the money until stipulations are lifted. What kind of nonsense is going on here. I need the money but self respect is more important than 1k+. One the other hand we can take the money and if the time comes before 6 months, leave and see the bonus as a christmas loan from the county. Good night!

only good thing about this is chief alexander is apparently leaving so NO 3% of his $160k salary for him!!!! (or is he exempt from this policy tooo?)

Anonymous said...

I thought when you got a BONUS it was for a job well done!!! If I've already worked for my bonus why should I have to sign agreements stating I will remain for next 6 months!!!!

Well let me play it out for you guys!

Uniform goes on 5-2 effective Feb 2014 which will cause another mass exodus. *BUT WAIT* Lets make them sign an agreement therefor we can keep them around a couple more months!!!

Great minds at work once again

Alexander keeps talking about Rochester and how everyone there loves him and they want him back so bad. I get the feeling he wants us to beg him to stay. I think he wants a bidding war for his services. I just don't give a damn if he stays and I don't give a damn if he leaves. He has very little police experience and he is just not that special.

Good point 6:04, fits the agenda..

Someone should check with an attorney on this. If we already have the money in our accounts, how can they demand that we sign some kind of contract after the fact setting conditions for us getting the money in the first place? If there were going to be conditions for us getting the money, they should have made us agree to them weeks before we actually got the money! If they try to take it back because we refuse to sign their contract after they have already given us the money, we could probably sue the crap out of them! I think this is what you call "bait and switch." You can't give someone something, then after they accept it, set terms and conditions they weren't aware of.

"Here's a free toaster for you! We hope you like it! Now that you've accepted this free toaster, you must give to us your first born child!"

That shit stinks and don't float!

That is a cash advance not a bonus if they are attaching strings to it like that. I guess they want to show they are at full strength when the Lakeside, Tucker, Stonecrest and Oak Grove start having their YES TO CITYHOOD meetings.

Anonymous said...

When this was announced by May months ago, he called it a "bonus". Today, it is now called an "incentive". What a crock of shit this place is!

Anonymous said...

This place can keep their 5/2 and chump change. I'd never allow myself such desperation as to beg for their scraps.

Anonymous said...

I agree with anon 10:43. I don't see how they could do this after the fact. This should've been done when they decided to give the "bonus". Then they would know who to give it to and who not to. I'm not sure how they can do it once they've given it to you and it's in your account. Anyone on here from the FOP that can contact legal? It's typical Dekalb.
Here's an idea. You want quality people to stay in Dekalb, start paying them what they should make and get rid of the corruption within the department. You're not going to get people to stay by having them sign a piece of paper meanwhile, continuing to put people in authority that have no business being there.
With that said, you want to see further decline in this department, put Holmes in as interim chief.

Anonymous said...

The money is already in my account and has already been moved. I dare them to try to take it back if I don't sign their "after the fact" paper work. Watch how fast I call the GBI for theft and sue them! Let them try to take it out of my last pay check. I'll call the GBI for theft and sue them.

Time to separate the men from the boys (doers from the followers).

Several people have commented to quit whining etc. Well that's fine if you are planning to continue working until next june. But you must consider that a number of officers are/were planning to retire before then. They have worked many many years and desire the bonus than the rest of us. Now they are either penalized or forced to stay here even longer. I am sorry. It is just not fair and yes I am going to whine about it. Don't want to hear it? then go to Disney.com or something.

Anonymous said...

Chief,
Say it aint so. 5/2 work week? Having three days off is survival at south precinct. If you have us work another four days a month we cant afford it. We know were very short on officers now but this is the only reason why were staying. The mass exodus will be faster we promise. Just leave things be.

MPOs

Anonymous said...

You'll never please everyone obviously, that's the nature of being human. As long as there is a forum to vent frustration it will be so. The little things will sort themselves out, just don't lose sight of the ultimate goal (a crime free Dekalb).

Anonymous said...

The 5/2 is clearly punitive when every other agency increases manpower working 2 12 hr shifts thus allowing officers off every other weekend. Rather than make us enjoy off days of tues and weds how about bringing someone in that still comprehends math once they run out of fingers and toes to count on. Surely you realize your incompetence gets immediately broadcast to media so rather than cause yourself further embarrassment let the competent run the show for a change.

You guys are silly thinking that Chief "Cedric The Entertainer" is getting a bonus check. You're forgetting that it was for sworn personnel only. He's not sworn and never will be because he's not planning on staying here and never was. He's just padding his resume.

Hey Cedric, stop impersonating a police officer and wearing a uniform, badge and gun. The public might mistaken you for a REAL police officer and ask you for assistance. You don't even have any arrest powers so if you saw a 44P (that's an Armed Robbery in Progress since you don't even know our codes and signals) you would have to call 911 like any other citizen would. You are a freaking joke!

Anonymous said...

Chief Holmes, Chief Holmes, Chief Holmes!!! No bring back Eddy Moody.

Anonymous said...

You guys are aware that Dr. Cedric has never been any sort of supervisor in a police department other than a Chief right? He was a Detective at Miami-Dade PD but has never even been a Sergeant, ANYWHERE! He went from Detective to Chief.

Read the "Bio Box" at the bottom of this article in the AJC:

This place and a lot of people in the county govt, police dept and support services just DONT GET IT. The two top things in any job field at almost any pay level that workers appreciate the most is pay and recognition for their efforts in the organization.

We WERE told time and time again that we were getting a bonus, and our hard work and sacrifices were not unnoticed and we would see a one time 3% bonus as a start in the county's commitment to addressing the problems in its public safety services.

Hours before the "funds" were placed into peoples accounts via direct deposit(if you have direct deposit), the county releases a memo. The BONUS BECAME AN INCENTIVE and there were stipulations attached and you have to sign a paper. IF this was told to us months or even weeks ago, I and probably a lot of other people would not be griping about this.

I get not handing out money to people leaving or intending to leave and having those that leave pay it back, but that was not what we were told. A BONUS is for a job well done-(past tense) An INCENTIVE is something you get for performance that is to come with a set of conditions set forth and a time frame in which those conditions must be met.

Once again, we were LIED to. Dont care how you DeKalb Kool Aid drinkers spin it. What this did was make me feel insulted and once again showed how the county wants to make you feel like a little peon that should be kissing their ass for the privilege of being an employee here.

This place should be a case study in college management courses of how not to treat employees and how using sleight of hand can backfire on you. Do the people running this place honestly believe that the threat of paying some of this bonus, I MEAN incentive back going to keep people from leaving here before June ? I have news for you Dekalb, IT WONT. You have probably motivated more people to jump ship. People do not like being treated like they are idiots and servants to some ungrateful employer. The PROOF OF THIS IS THE ATTRITION RATE that continues to dominate and will in months to come.

SERENITY NOW

Jeff Wiggs , Help!!!! Stop the 5/2.

Anonymous said...

Blog Master, I never ask for much but can you help us , no 5/2 at all. This will cause the good ones to move on. Help please.

PatsQB said...

I'm not sure everyone railing against the 5/2 understands it. Has Brass said how it would be implemented? Granted 5 days of 8hr shifts would be terrible. But the 5/2 as most other depts run it means you work 12hr shifts. You work two 12hr days one week and five 12hr days the next. You never work more than 3 days in a row. You have every other weekend off and it's always a 3 day weekend. Need a week off? Take two days off and you get a weeks vacation if you time it right.

Anonymous said...

Here's the deal, the check was taxed, they cannot take it back...plain and simple, ask your lawyer (as I did) if you don't believe me....

Anonymous said...

Pats QB:

From someone working it now: 5 days on, 8 hr. shifts. 2 days off. Period.

Anonymous said...

Or go over to Fire where you work one day (sleeping half of it) then off two. Take that one work day off (which you easily can there) and you're off 5 in a row. Pssst - they don't generate revenue so productivity is never an issue.

Anonymous said...

We already had an officer quit today (Monday). He is going to work for Lawrenceville PD. I guess the INCENTIVE stipulations to stay employed here backfired.

Anonymous said...

OMG what a bunch of whining asses. You all act as if there was never a 5/2 scheduled ever worked around this place. We worked it for many, many years with no problems at all except the stupid ass 28 day cycle. At least that's not coming back. Look at it this way you get to go home 2hrs earlier each day. Instead of looking at all the negative look at the positive, yes I agree it's gonna suck but it could be much, much worse.

All I can say is, been there done that, and it wasn't all that bad. I remember when the 1st talk of going to a 4/3 with 10hr days was bitched about....OMG. You guys truly need to grow the hell up.

Anonymous said...

You guys think you got it bad, come over here to Clarkston. We lost 3 officers to Emory and Chamblee P.D our Chief burned personnel files and city records in Friendship Forest at the order of Mr. Barker in a cover up. We are all leaving this fucked up place.

Anonymous said...

FYI the county has been known to make withdrawals from employees accounts using direct deposit that they "overpaid" into which is precisely why I don't use it.

Anonymous said...

I'm gonna lay this out your the chief you took a job here and then you tried to leave but now they couldn't compete with what your making now. What makes you think I'm gonna support a chief who just got here and then tries to leave. You attempted to abandon your troops and the citizens of DeKalb. You mind as we'll took that job cause I can guarantee no officer here will support you now unless you prove yourself to us officers by going to bat for us.

Concern citizen and veteran officer

Anonymous said...

BOC... take notice of why Alexander is.... maybe you can work on keeping veteran officers and their experience!

Mayor-elect Warren said she reached out to Cedric Alexander to discuss the position of Chief of Police.

"As the conversation progressed, it became clear that we could not compete financially with an offer made by his current employer – DeKalb County, Georgia," said Warren in a statement.

Anonymous said...

What bullshit...........You can have a bonus check, but there is strings attached. Who makes up these stupid rules?

There must be a rocket scientist within the DeKalb County Gov't who spends countless hours to think up these dumbass regulations. If that person would spend the time that he or she was hired for, then the county could possibly recoup some of the monies spent on these dumbass rules. WHAT A WASTE !!

Anonymous said...

If you don't like the department stfu and leave. Point blank.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for your comment Chief.

Anonymous said...

Some of you should be fortunate that you got the bonus because you suck as police officers. Stop the whining.

The department used to be 5/2. Get over it. Nothing will change in the quality of police work you do now. It's just an extra day your warm body is in the patrol car.

You should be pissed with the BOC and all the thieving. Going on 8 years without a pay raise, but friends get hired or get contracts, pay raises for themselves and civilian employees at the top, and we get nothing but empty promises.

One of THE WORST indicators of an agency is having to force people to sign retention agreements tied to money already paid out.

A few of the campus PD's around the state do this to prevent officers form leaving right out of the academy. But Ive never heard of metro Atlanta PD doing this for a damn bonus.

Dekalb County is a joke.

Anonymous said...

I don't know about most of you, but my Sgts. tried to get me to sign that piece of paper starting that if I leave before June 14 I have to pay a prorated portion of the" incentive" back twice. They were passing the sheet around in roll call.

I didn't sign it and I know other officers like myself who refused to sign it. Since then it went away and wasn't talked about again. Seems extremely odd, considering I spoke with a lawyer and he stated that it was a lawsuit waiting to happen if they forced us to sign that garbage....

If the county would like to pursue this endeavor, I'd be more than willing to oblige them in a lawsuit.

Anonymous said...

"My sergeants tried to get me to sign"... the sergeant didn't do anything but what they were and are told to do. They have nothing to do with the stuff that rolls down hill. Theirs is the the worst position in the department.... they're held responsible for everything on the street and have no authority to do anything. They're busy trying to stay out of the cross fire created by white shirts looking for someone to blame.

Anonymous said...

Then they need to man up and take a stand or stay MPO. "Just following orders" is no longer acceptable or valid in this corrupt shit hole.
