Will They or Won't They?
Today is the day. The commissioners vote on a few privileged getting take home cars, and returning the 10% promotional pay increase.
Will they or won't they?

Begging commissioners to simply do the bare minimum every other municipality is doing to have the "privilege" of working in that shit hole? I don't think so.
50 new and 50 refurbished!.... F... they might as well increase the training budget to cover the cost of 100+ training recruits to replace the experienced veteran officer that are leaving...
Why don't they build more senior centers, water parks and soap box Derby tracks.... what officer would think of leaving if that happened!
What till they dump us into the exchanges at the next open enrollment!
How many will leave for Cobb and the part times created by the new baseball stadium.
If this reporter was worth her salt, she'd ask how much it cost to train a new officer to replace an experienced veteran who is leaving to only give another jurisdiction the benefit of all the training and experience Dekalb bought and paid for.
If the citizens of Dekalb are happy pay to train officer who will work somewhere else.... so be it.
So the BOC is still studying take homes and has approved a 3% raise in July... I'm sure the END of July.... Riddle me this Batman....
What is it about June (you have to pay back your "bonus" if you leave before June)?...
Does this gave something to do with our current 6 month enrollment period? Are we about to be dumped into Obama Care?
For years, the DeKalb Police Dept. has been treated like shit. The academy buildings were a disgrace and should have been condemed. The salaries frozen too long, Vernon Jones creating his bullshit security team, (hope he doesn't ever return in any capacty), the list goes on and one day this county will be sorry. No wonder so many municipalities are cropping up. Their biggest concern has been getting a top notch polce department.
The employees of DeKalb County are dealing with some tough times.
First, they are dealing with morons who do not know how to manage money in any form.
Second, the morons in charge do not know what they are doing, much less screwing up a county that once was the most outstanding county in the state.
Third, having destroyed the best school system in the state by employing dumbasses to try to teach the kids right from wrong and have failed.
The list of screw-ups gets larger and larger as the days go on and continues to get much worse. It isn't the police and fire departments that are getting the shaft, it is the whole dam county.
Think about the poor taxpayers who have the pocketbook to pay for the whole mess.
Maybe, creating new cities is something worth while, but only time will tell. We, the taxpayers, could be face with same morons running the new cities that have been ruining the county.
Y'all are really mad huh? Lmbo!!!! Get on!!!!
Fuck this broke ass county and the corrupt BOC! They better start rolling out four academies at the same time because officers are leaving in droves, especially at East Precinct. Pretty soon they won't have any officers on the road to patrol. Take home cars with strings attached (if they're ever rolled out at all) and refurbished vehicles?? SERIOUSLY? Dekalb County is the arm pit of policing in the south. Its no surprise why we are the laughing stock in Georgia, if not the nation. When will officers wake up and stop cutting citations? Why continue to line the pockets of the crooked assholes in Decatur when they have zero interest in taking care of us or our families??
To the officers still there (for whatever reason)……
heres what I did…….
the absolute worst thing you can do to get back at "them"……………..is DO NOTHING.
Sit in their neighborhoods all day long and do nothing……you know what I mean…………park, answer your calls, work your wrecks, MAYBE………..write a warning ticket,,,,,,,but DO NOTHING!!!!!!!! until you can leave for good.
THats how you get back at hem…….
LMWAO………...
It has become so bad here that I am applying for non PD jobs, just as a temporary solution to get out of here!! I will be gone within the next month and East will be down one more officer!!
Same three whiners and two of them don't work at DKPD.
What about the crooked Officer that planted dope on a perp!
Tell ya one thing. The month of March is going to be sweeeeeet at Center with Sir Issac Newton gone all month....can't wait till June / July when he leaves for good. For he is NOT the God send to police work like he thinks.
reading this I can tell non of you live in DeKalb County. What I suggest is that you go work and police where you live and have them pay for a car and college for your sorry ass. The citizen of Dekalb should not have to pay for a car for you to park in the driveway of your Forsyth, Conyers, Gwinnett and Henry County homes Crime is what it is because your heart is not in DeKalb since your wives, and other family member do not live or go to school in DeKalb. Well I work for Dekalb and my kids go to DeKalb Schools. So again go work where you live if they will hire your sorry ass cause trust me plenty of people are apply as quick as you scrubs leaves.
So you clowns will continue to work there for peanuts only to get a car that doesn't belong to you? Setting the bar a little low.
The absolute worst thing you can do is do nothing. Please do not listen to that raving lunatic. We all took an oath and like it or not, our job is to "protect and serve," which we are NOT doing when we "do nothing." I wonder how that person looks at his or herself in the mirror while "doing nothing" and letting a 53 holding drugs walk by. Thanks for expressing your opinion, and since you are now gone, please go somewhere far, far away and stop trying to corrupt honest police officers. On a separate note, did anyone ever doubt that they would royally screw up this take home car deal? But, that said, do not allow that to affect your work on the streets or in your office job.
March 2, 2014 at 1:53 PM , Obviously you're not a police officer.... if you are, you must be single with no kids or a family to worry about.
Living where you police is not the smartest thing to do. With every arrest, you put your kids and you spouse in danger..... how would you feel if your kids were singled out at school for abuse because you J1'd some little thug's perp dad or mom.
We have a center officer in the Scottdale/N. Decatur Rd area who received threats.... we know where you live etc...
Sorry, I'm not moving from north of the city to live in Dekalb. I've been out with family and had someone approach and say "Hey...do you remember me?"
Would you prefer that officers hesitate to do something because they have to consider their family... think about it.
The politicians and the citizen opposed to the idea of take homes are not thinking....
Take homes are part of the compensation package.... a benefit.
Take homes will increase productivity.... no waiting for cars to come in.... no waiting while the officers load and unload... no reason for officers to come in an hour to an hour and a half early to give their cars to the next team...
Take homes would be an incentive to stay.... we're losing veteran officers and replacing them with inexperienced rookies that the county has to pay to train... these rookies won't start being effective till they've been on the road a while....
Inexperienced rookies make mistakes and wreck cars... it costs the county money when they have to replace or repair a car... it costs them money to pay when they settle or lose lawsuits.
Spending money to keep experienced officers who know the area, the suspect, and have experience is cost effective.
Would you rather deal with an experienced officer or a rookie who doesn't know what to do and is learning on the job?
Also... look out.....Chamblee is coming to take a number of officers who know the area and have training and experience paid for by Dekalb.

I agree with you that some people complain too much and maybe nothing will make them happy. But unless you have been under a rock you must know that there has been plenty to complain about here for the last several years.
It sounds like you love Cedric and maybe have a man-crush or something. What battle did he bring to the B.O.C. that no one dared before? Don't just go away now. I want to hear your answer.
Anon 1:53 PM
You do realize that if all the officers who do not live in DeKalb County quit, the department would no longer exist right? And I can tell by what I read that if I lived in Antarctica and commuted to work with a pack of fucking sled dogs I would still be a better cop than you. You should seriously consider writing lessons. And regardless of the opinion of an ass-hole like you, I will live with my family any fucking place I like.
I bet we cannot even get Diaper Kits like Dunwoody Police. The cities get everything.
TO: March 2, 2014 at 1:53,
Obviously, you are also a product of the DeKalb County School System.

"So again go work where you live if they will hire your sorry ass cause trust me plenty of people are apply as quick as you scrubs leaves."
Please educate yourself on the subject a little bit and try yo use correct grammar when bsdmouthing us.
Take home police cars save taxpayers money. Wouldn't you like to save some money and lower the counties operating costs? A police car that is run 24 hours a day has extremely high maintenance costs compared to a vehicle an officer takes home.
Additionally, other departments in the metro area offer take home cars and we are losing experienced officers every month to those agencies. Think about it this way, it costs in excess of $50,000 to train a new officer. At a rate of losing 11 officers a month, how much taxpayer money is being thrown in the garbage on a monthly basis? Do the math, or continue to gripe and not care about where your tax dollars are wasted.
So what ever happened to these cars they were rolling out LAST week?
You are right 1209. Assigned take homes run better, last longer and generally look better and long term, cost less over the years. People have a hard time looking beyond the initial sticker shock.
I love how the County starts "exploring" the idea of having Take-home cars in 2014 like they're on the cutting edge and are treading unknown waters. Newsflash, almost every agency around this county provides take-homes. Almost every agency WITHIN the county provides take-homes. Jesus Christ, if I wasn't laughing at these fools I'd probably be crying. I remember driving home from Downtown near AUBURN AVENUE, and seeing a Gwinnett Officer in full uniform leaving his condo. Now, if Gwinnett can allow their officers to drive their take homes TWO counties over into Fulton, why can't I simply drive home into the next county? And like Ms. Byfield said, I'm pretty sure that little bit of gas used going over the county line would have been going to pay the salary of an officer you've already run away, so what's the big deal?
I also love the commentary from random DeKalb citizens that are given a brief synopsis of the situation and are asked their opinion like they're experts on the matter. "I'd rather see them put the money into putting more cops on the street." WHY DIDN'T WE THINK OF THAT! I can just hear a collective 'Could've had a V8' forehead slap reverberate throughout the Precinct when I heard that one. Newsflash baby, Maybe if good, qualified officers know that we offer Take-homes like most every other agency in the Metro area, we COULD put more officers on the street.
And to the guy making the "If you lived here you'd care" comment. Shut the fuck up. The only time you should Live in the same area you work is if you're a politician. Any other job like this, especially in the public sector would be ridiculous. Would you live right next to a High School you taught at? No, because you'd end up with Potatoes in your exhaust pipe and TP all over your house every time you gave someone a bad grade they deserved. I don't live where I work because I'm growing a family, and I'd rather not have to play the "Guess what I arrested you for" game every time some stranger approaches me with my family in public. And I get that protection from going away from this place when it's time for me to 10-42. But don't you dare question my loyalty to this place or my decision to work here. I grew up in DeKalb and I go to work everyday making a difference in the community that raised me. So you keep your fucking comments to yourself because I've had enough of people who obviously know nothing about what we do or why we do it coming on here and judging us with such anonymity.
And BTW: Don't blame that clown's horrible sentence structure on DeKalb County Schools, some of us actually paid attention in class, he probably got that crap from generations of ghetto home-schooling.
Each and every one of you stay safe out there my brothers and sisters, the perps come in from the front, and the department comes in from the rear. Watch out for each other.
-OfficerZERO
Oh nothing, they still sitting in parking lot on fire side. Warranty running out on them before we even put a mile one on them.....Haaaa what a joke.
R E T A R D S please go to a more affluent municipality. Our minimum extra job rate is $50.00/hr.
Live in Dekalb County, are you kidding me? Let me start by saying HELL NO. I will live wherever I choose (free country). I do my job and I do it well. Then I get the hell out. I wouldn't have my wife and kids anywhere near Dekalb. I wouldn't send my dog to a Dekalb County school. You want people, including police, to move into Dekalb. Try voting out the corruption that you call a BOC. make Dekalb a better place. That won't happen though because the people seem to like the corruption and keep voting them in. So, I will do my job and drive north to a place I choose to live.
They were washing the new Caprice's at 34 so it looks like they might be rolling out.... Maybe???
Blogmaster.........Its time to move on to another subject. Quit being lazy !!!
With the recent recruitment of new officers in Dekalb including some from out-of-state hopefully this department can move past all the negativity. I was considering relocation to the area but based upon what I'm reading here, even from some "anonymous" officers that are currently employed in Dekalb...all of Dekalb can't be this bad, is it???
Cars were issued today, all to line officers in the Uniform Division. None to supervisors.
Holy shit!! Im looking at a brand new take home in my garage! After 14 years of service they finally did something right! Go Ced its your birthday! Its your birthday!
"Anonymous March 8, 2014 at 8:32 AM"
if you actually knew something you would know that the warranty on the cars don't start until the County sends in the papers that its in service. So the car can sit for 10 years and still have a full warrant when the 1st officer sits in it to answer the 1st call of service.
Know your facts before you open your mouth and try to start rumors.
I find it interesting that my post confirming that the cars had been issued still hasn't been published.
A few will get take homes, the rest will just be stuck! So good job guys, you have managed to keep the ones who weren't going anywhere happy, while letting everyone else continue to find greener pastures! Fuck you Dekalb County!
Guess the rest of us will continue to fight for the scraps, woo hoo! It's all good, only a few more weeks until I'm 10-42 from East!
Actually, the warranty starts when the cars are PURCHASED, not when they are issued to officers.
dkpd will screw it up, look at all the perp officers arrested last year my god ! just wait dkpd will be recorded speeding, passing accident scenes cuz they wana get home, driving pd car off duty , cant wait for you guys to screw this up lol.
How many officers have bolted for Chamblee from East alone????
Riddle me this Batman...Why is unit 12358 parked at Fire Station 6 on Flat Shoals Rd every day when it is a take home car??? So you get 8 points for living in the county and that makes you first in line for a take home car. Yet you don't take the car home. Why??
I'm sure there is more too discuss other than the issue of take home cars...If you get one, you get it. If you don't get one, oh well.. You still have a job to do and if you don't someone else will. As adults, as law enforcement officials, you guys really don't leave much of an impression for the public eye! And you wonder why the county is in the condition it is today. Time to take a closer look at the officers of Dekalb, the administration, and all that falls in the lines with the above.
