Vernon Trailing In Internal Poll

This afternoon, we received a polling memo generated by Melvin Mitchell’s campaign for DeKalb County sheriff.

The automated survey, conducted among 1,524 likely voters on April 13 and 14, has a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percent.

The poll focuses only on three of the eight candidates. Not surprisingly, the survey puts Mitchell – a sergeant with the Atlanta Police Department — in the lead, with 38 percent. Former DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones polled 32.4 percent. Jeff Mann, who served as chief deputy under Sheriff Tom Brown and is now interim sheriff, came in at 24 percent

I don't know anything about the candidates... outside VJ.... but, seeing that the poll leader is a sergeant from Atlanta makes me think.... damn..... more people from Atlanta..wasn't Benita Ransom enough!

Verns been without a job for six years. He ran for senator and failed to get elected, my question is this. How did Vernon Jones support himself with no job for the last five years?

Anonymous said...

Well Benita is a good donkey for Burrell.

Don't forget; Sidney Dorsey came from A.P.D.. Lewis Graham came from Fulton County P.D.. Samey same !!

VJ is deep down evil!

Vermin probably is living off of his hidden stash of illegally obtained $ when he was CEO. He bypassed the purchasing procedures and awarded contracts to whom he pleased. (Minority companies) In my opinion, the voters in Dekalb will go for Mann. Mann will keep the same low profile that Tom Brown was known for.

LoFlyer, he was taking internal polls.

Our own Sgt Hughes from Tucker Precinct is running. That's who I'm voting for.
Have a look:

Sorry, Sgt Tony Hughes is a nice guy but he don't have any chance in the race for Sheriff so if you vote for him, it will be wasted. I suggest everyone vote for a candidate that is in the running.

No matter how hard you try,you just can't polish a turd !!

How is Vermin living for the past 6 years?

…….Hm……….Didn't our illustrious pension board give him 12 years he served as a State Rep as credit toward into our pension for the 8 he did as CEO?

Please confirm……somebody….or deny…...

Lets see……it was under the old pension…..2.75% X 20=55%. Minus age penalty----7.5%=47.5%

47.5 x $120K (his salary for the last 3 years, estimated)= $57,000.00 a year in a pension from age 50 for the rest of his life……..

and yes for you new guys who don't have the old pension……………IT WAS THAT GOOD!!!!!

Former CEO Jones only has Pension credit for his time as CEO of DeKalb. Time spent in the Ga Legislature doesn't not count for him or other elected officials who have had time in the legislature like former CEO Liane Levetan and Commissioner Stan Watson.

Former CEO Jones also hasn't requested that his time in the legislature be added to his DeKalb County public service time. The Pension Board has never addressed the issue.

If it did ever come up, it would have to be voted on by the Pension Board and a Home Rule amendment voted on by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners.

Vernon Jones is back, with a Stetson

Vernon Jones has returned to the campaign trail in DeKalb County, and this time he’s wearing a cowboy hat.
Jones, the first African-American to be elected CEO of DeKalb, is running for county sheriff. But his track record since then is pretty grim — lost the U.S. Senate race in 2008, lost the U.S. House race in 2010, considered but backed away from a state legislative race in 2012.
His enmity for the media, particularly for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, is intense, and he would argue that the AJC’s enmity for him is equally intense. As a consequence, Jones isn’t talking to the AJC about his candidacy, preferring to run his campaign on the Internet and by meeting voters close up, out of the public spotlight.
“He said he’s not doing it the conventional way,” said Maynard Eaton, the longtime Atlanta newsman and political strategist. “He said he’s been beat up, that his past will keep coming up.”
Subscribers may read the full story by staff writer Bill Torpy at myajc.com and in Sunday’s print AJC. Also online: a photo gallery of Jones through the years, and an extraordinary email thread involving Jones and members of the AJC staff a year ago.

Basically, if Vernon Jones were a cocktail, he'd be a Squandered Promise: two parts Bill Clinton, one part Bill Campbell and a dash of Tricky Dick.

There has been a new surge in getting out Vermin Jones campaign posters around town. AND TO NO SURPRISE THEY ARE STILL BEING PLACED ON PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAYS. He must have the most ignorant campaign staff or he hired morons to do it. This just irritates voters and brings his efforts BAD KARMA/JUJU. Oh well, in the long run I guess this is a good thing. Vermin is out of the run come next Tuesday.

His staff is ignorant. They placed a campaign sign at the exit to Indian Trail on I-85

His staff are super dumb. They placed a sign out front of a church on Tilly Mill Rd that serves as a precinct polling place. Violating election law.

Do your research. Political signs can be placed no closer than 150 feet from the polling place entrance. If it was in the right away, then you should have pulled it up because it is against county ordinance to place signage on the county right of way.
Do your job.

To annonymous at 8:40 pm.
I don't pull up illegally posted signs. If I did, I'd spend a week or more removing VJ signs. I know about the 150 ft from polling place entrances, this was the reason for my post to begin with.

I'm not a Jones nor a Mann supporter. As a former DeKalb deputy, I was supporting Dale Collins. He knows more about that office than ANY of the other candidates that were in the race. But, he wasn't funded. Stuck between Jones & Mann (a rock & a hard place), I think I have to go for the rock. Despite all the drama. Jones got a lot accomplished. Mann is just a continuation of gangster Brown! Anyone who worked for more than a day under Brown can confirm that. #RegrettablyTeamJones

I could give a damn about these people's signs. There's a real crime taking place. Every time I saw a VJ sign there was a Mitchell sign. On election day, all these dumb dumbs were illegal. VJ's peeps were definitely swallowed up by the sea of Mitchell & Mann signs. Glad I don't live in DeKalb…I just hope whoever wins gives us some damn help on these streets.

Vernon Jones is a convicted racist. A federal jury concluded that he discriminated against white employees and he retaliated against black employees who refused to be a part of it. Let's look at his security detail. Chief Eddie Moody was fired by Vernon because Moody wouldn't lie to the grand jury about the need for his extravagant security detail. Let's look at some of the members of that security detail. Don Frank. Should have been fired as a Sgt for illegally running people dating his exwife on ncic. Instead, Vernon promoted him to assistant chief within 2 years. Where is Don Frank now? Federal prison for corruption. Willie Durrett. Another member of Vernon's inner circle and security detail. Where is he now? Federal prison for corruption. Let's look at the police chiefs chosen by Vernon. Graham was forced to resign after making racist statements on tape. Bolton was fired from Dallas for being a dumbass, then hired by Vernon. He was a dumbass here with 9 cars at his disposal and a bimbo with no police experience acting as an assistant chief. When it comes to law enforcement, Vernon is batting .00000000000000.

Annonymous @ 2:23 pm,
You hope whoever wins gives you help on the streets. Don,t expect street level help. It's not the Sheriff's primary duty.

There are two main reasons why Vernon Jones did not win the sheriff's race. One is that Jeff Mann was listed as the incumbent. A lot of people blindly vote for the incumbent if they don't know any better -- which they usually don't. Do you ever wonder why judges in uncontested races receive so many votes? Do you think many of those voters know that judge's record and approve of the job he or she has done? Yeah, right.

The other reason is that this contest was a special election in which Republicans could also vote. Had it been only Democrats voting for the eight Democratic candidates, then, in conjunction with no incumbent, it is very possible that Vernon would already be the new sheriff.

Vernon got the most votes in many south DeKalb precincts. His supporters will turn out for a runoff, unlike those who blindly vote for the incumbent. However, his downfall is likely to be that more Republicans have a reason to vote because of the U.S. Senate runoff. They will most likely vote for Mann.

But one big opening given to Vernon is Mann's timid response to the huge failure of the sheriff's department in leaving Sabrina Townes out there to kill someone else. Remember, Mann boldly states on his web site that he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department.

As a former member of Derwin Brown's transition team, knowing the cold eye to eye stare I received from Sid Dorsey at the funeral, only one other stare like that have I received. IT WAS FROM NONE OTHER THAN VERMIN JONES.
God help this county if he ever holds any political position. Corruption will have a foothold in the Sheriff's Dept. like the days of Dorsey.
