Stand by for a storm. You may have noticed no storm last week when Officer Green was murdered by another black man. Do the lives of black cops matter?

I don't know if it's a "new school officer" phenomenon because admittedly, I'm Old School. But if I shot all the people who simply ran at me..I'd beat the American sniper record!

What's happening here where "fear" is the excuse to shoot someone all the time even if the suspect is unarmed? I'm not acting like my fellow OS breed and I were UFC champs or anything but there's been good results from a nice FACE PUNCH ever since I can remember. I can remember looking at these kinds of situations and saying "I hope this guy doesn't make me beat his A$$" to myself. And then think fistacuffs and then later in my career, OC, ASP etc.... but the thought of shooting an unarmed man was SO FAR from even being on the radar it almost wasn't even an option unless of course, he went for my weapon or a LONG LIST of circumstances went wrong. When it was time to fight, all I used to say was "time to punch the time clock and put in some work". And not a thought of shooting him! And I'm far from a pacifist because I've had to discharge my weapon before and it didn't end well for the bad guy. If they guy is "crazy" or drugged out his mind (same thing I guess), then yes...he'll probably run at you! Off the bat, that just doesn't equal shooting the man. No matter how big or small or Black since we're going to be honest here. Are we not teaching any defensive tactics in the academy more? Better yet, defensive tactics need to be at the forefront of ALL IN SERVICE TRAINING because its obvious that officers don't feel confident in what they know or else they would employ less lethal more readily and with greater success.

No I wasn't there but if its true that the officer gave commands and then the suspect simply ran at him and then POW! Something's very wrong here.

I'm sensing a training issue at the least.

For the 30 years I was there, DKPD IA always investigated our shootings and the FBI never questioned the results because they knew that those investigations were complete, thorough and fair. This clown comes in and demonstrates a total lack of respect and confidence in IA's ability to investigate this shooting fairly. What does that say about his opinion of DKPD????? What does that say about IA today?????

@Anon 9:32 An independent GBI should happen in all officer involved shootings in the state of Georgia. This should be the SOP for every police department in the state of Ga.

How about just don't shoot unarmed people. Remember your ssgt or take some self defense classes or if not take your scary a** to cid.

Well unfortunately, worldstar hip-hop got a hold of it.

Whats crazy is, if "mike brown" never happened, this story maybe wouldn't have even made the news. Not that its right or wrong, but its a new day in policing. The issued body cameras are strongly advised. I hope things work out for this Centerside Officer. 22's are never routine calls. Very unfortunate.

Anon 11:19pm,

The word is "scared," not "scary." Four year old children know the difference between those two words, I don't know why adults choose to sound like idiots.

Do you know how to use Microsoft word? (Anon 11:19pm,

Take your scared a** to CID. Take your scary a** to CID. Either is appropriate unless your speaking specifically about the tense IE past or present. All the problems surrounding this issue and your concerned about grammar. Also if the Mike Brown issue had not occurred. You say this shooting would not have made the news right? Then if you do not see a issue about this not being publizied then I say I pray for you and your short sighted mindset.

Where was the Mobile Crisis Response Unit?

Mobile Crisis was probably just coming on duty or out on a call... They don't handle every 22.

Anon 10:55 - You are very right in your assertion this is a training issue at the least. New officers are way to fast to “go to guns”. They just are not taught to talk first and shoot last. And as much as I hate to say it I to can not find any possible circumstance where I would have shot an unarmed naked man running towards me. Talk him down, and if that doesn't work knock him on his ass. If he still wants to fight then use that real nice Taser they issued you. If an officer is so scared while on duty that he shoots an unarmed naked man running towards him, well, maybe he’s in the wrong line of work. (And I say none of this lightly. I’m retired DKPD and I knew the officer who is involved. I just hate the future he is facing.) Stay strong, watch each other’s back.

Wow, you really are stupid and don't know the difference between scary and scared. Tense has nothing to do with it.

Scared means that someone is afraid, or frightened.

Scary describes something or someone that makes other people scared or frightened.

Children are scared of ghosts. Ghosts are scary. If you wanted to the children are scary because of the ghosts, you're an idiot.

Please tell me you don't work for our department. If you do, please quit.

Mike Brown is dead because he was a bully, a robber, and because he assaulted a cop and tried to take away his gun. If you're bothered by his death, take it up with him and his sorry excuse for parents.

If you are an officer working the streets in DeKalb County you should do everything reasonably possible to keep yourself from being involved in a possible lethal force situation. Politics and self promotion is at the center of all decisions being made by CNN Cedric right now. If necessary you will be sacrificed for the greater good as he sees it. Of course you should answer your calls and back your fellow officers but these are difficult times for law enforcement so how aggressive should you be?

As far as this latest shooting in DeKalb of the nude suspect I will wait until I know all of the facts. The officer could have used OC and beat the guy with an ASP as some of you have suggested and their would still be some people who would want the officer in prison. It is easy to say what we would have done if we were in that situation I guess but none of us are perfect and we are all capable of making a mistake.

Training was definitely not the issue. Ruck and the rest of staff thoroughly explain the use of force continuum. Some ppl just rely on their ace card (aka 69) too readily, but are unprepared for the perp that calls your bluff.

Yes, we're for real. How do grown adults not know how to use the word scared? It's absurd and you sound like idiots. Have some self respect.

Amen to 9:57 pm on the 11th!!!!

Dr. Alexander had a lot to say about what happened in Ferguson and that department. Looks like people are starting to say the same things about us and him. How much has he been around lately? I see him on TV more often than I see him in Dekalb. He's been doing a great job promoting himself on TV while our department crumbles. We have calls pending for hours, people can't get time off because we're so shorthanded, still no annual raises going on 8 years now, the take home cars aren't rolling out as promised, & we're losing officers to other departments at a dangerous rate. What's the Dr doing about it? Nothing. He's going on TV throwing stones at other departments while his own is falling apart. Now he's got egg all over his face. Watch as the calls for his resignation come in. Instead of promoting himself on the news every other day bashing other departments, he should have been taking care of his own!

CNN Cedric mentioned at a recent news conference (Channel 46 News)that DKPD trains it's officers a "force continuum". I thought we did away with UOF Continuum training several years ago in order to fall more in line with Graham v. Conner and/or Tennessee v. Garner. Haven't seen the UOF continuum taught during In Service training for years. Once again, Cedric proves he is no "expert in policing" let alone what is being taught in his own department.

I have a couple questions on this case. Why is the great witch doctor able to comment on other questionable non-DeKalb shootings on national TV but yet now he goes totally silent in this case? also, Dr Alexander is NOT the chief of police in DeKalb (contrary to media depictions). that title goes to Interim Chief James Conroy, to which, i have NOT seen a single thing from him regarding this incident. Is he chief or a puppet as others have previously said?

@anon 7:23 pm, 6:55 pm and 10:55 am thank you for your comments about this incident. I am old school also, and back in the day Dekalb officers got much respect from citizens and preps even in the worst neighborhoods like the meadows because we knew how to kick a** and take names in similar situations and we handled our business in a business like fashion, meaning if you chose to fight an officer you got you’re a** tuned up on the spot and it was not personal it was just business and most perps knew and respected that. Today’s officers have a duty belt full of options (Taser, OC gas, asp baton,) of other than his or her service weapon, we had our fist, baton, service revolver, and each other. And you never heard of one of us shooting a naked unarmed 22 suspect or not, because we had pride and respect for each other, the citizens that we were sworn to protect the department, and most of all ourselves. And a lot of you on this blog complain about the fact that you don’t get respect, if you read and understand some of the comments my by some the officers on this blog and the same attitudes they you display in your work, answers your questions about lack of respect. Respect is not just given away it is an earned commodity.

Well.... Cobb county shot a suspect yesterday... Like our officer, all involved are in my prayers ... I hope they were both good shoots.

Our job just got a little tougher. Be careful out there and as the latest general order said...

Take a time out and.....Stop and ask the perps if you can turn on that fancy video camera they gave us years ago.

The most notable finding from this investigation should be the most obvious as well, Negligible Staffing. Add ridiculous pressure for ticket revenue and your backup is virtually nonexistent, greatly limiting your options.
