Three officers were responding to a report of suspicious person, but instead went to the wrong home in the 1500 block of Boulderwoods Drive, near Bouldercrest Road, Cedric Alexander, director of public safety, said late Monday. Officers weren’t given a street address, but went to a home matching the description given by a 911 caller, Alexander said.
When officers got to the rear of the house, they found an unlocked screen and unlocked door and believed an intruder was inside, according to police. Officers announced their presence, but it wasn’t known how it escalated to gunfire.
“The residence that these officers responded to is the wrong residence that was in question,” Alexander said.
The officer, shot in the thigh, was in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital. The homeowner was also being treated for injuries, but his condition was not known, Alexander said. At least one officer discharged his gun, but no information was released on whether the homeowner also had a gun.
The GBI was called to assist with the investigation, Alexander said.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out the homeowner,” Alexander said. “And our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer who suffered a severe, critical injury here tonight and lost a lot of blood. We just hope both of them recover well.”
“This is the southeast side of town, so we do have a lot of crime over here, robberies, burglaries, shootings,” Gilman said. “Southeast Atlanta is relatively high-crime area that I live in.”
The officers involved were placed on administrative leave, Alexander said.

You want to know what's going on...not a dam thing, you have a so call Deputy Public Safety/Dumb Ass Director who knows nothing about law enforcement and he (Alexander) is trying to pimp himself to CNN like he is an expert! He needs to get his own house in order before trying to sleep in somebody else house. Cedric...you quoted to WSB, "it's too early to tell if training was an issue in the incident", are you kidding me? In that statement alone you do not know what you are doing! It is very oblivious that this is a training issue as well as accountability on the sergeant and lieutenant 's behalf...where in the hell were they??? Oh, I forgot...you can't answer that because you have your head so...far up CNN ass you don't know what's going on around you. You don't operate a police department and make changes to policies at the expense of injuring/killing citizens by officers mistakes or what they thought.
All I hear from DeKalb these days is shit we would never have imagined 15 years ago. Ced the non-cop gonna have to make uniform start keeping their bullets in the shirt pocket. Don't worry Ced, it's not all your fault, DeKalb ran most of the old school officers off before you got there.

Shooting an unarmed man in his own home, sounds like charges should be brought upon the officer or officers that fired their gun. This is unacceptable in todays standards.
It sounds like a Rookie mistake. So fast, Alexander stated, we wentvto the wrong house. I'm thinking, thorough investigation first because you don't want to say the wrong thing. Now my taxes just went up. #Lawsuit
Look guys, this is not controlled lab work. Doctors kill patients every day but they don't go to prison for it. Unfortunately accidents can and do happen. As a side note, where's all the outrage from black officers shooting an unarmed white man? Pretty ridiculous huh?
Despite how you feel about the previous corrupt administrations, Dr. Cedric does seem to be a cop's cop and have his officer's best interests at heart. That's a welcome change from years gone bye.
It could happen to any dept in this situation if you know what happened. Just pray for a full recovery for the officer

A mistake of elementary scale. Supervising officer places 2 officers at front door and 2 in the back door. Ring door bell. Someone might just answer and go from there. I trained rookies during the 70's and 80's. Never promoted above MPO, a longevity rank, but I know this:
1. Don't let your mouth get your ass in trouble.
2.He who remains silent, wins in the end.
3. He who loses his temper has lost half the battle.
4. He who loses his balance has lost the other half.
5. When in doubt, write a report.
6. When really in doubt, don't do a damn thing.
7. When all else fails, revert back to rule # 1.
I am old and retired, but still can train as well paid contractor. Expensive, but much less than high dollar lawsuits. CARRY ON TROOPS!

A great misappropriation of funds. However when your friend Stan Watson, you remember, the drunk that the DeKalb PD let go DUI twice one night, HOLY MACKEREL ANDY, any way when the DeKalb Ethics Board let Watson off after his clear ethics violations, Why Bother ???
The woes of not just DeKalb County but the METRO Area are clearly at the feet of The Lame USDA's in Atlanta and the Lame Atlanta Office of The FBI. One would think that Horn the new Atl USDA and Elaine Boyer are sweet on each other with the play time that she got ?
