Command Staff To Recieve Raise

The command staff, Captains and up are receiving pay raises, some up to $10,000.00 per year. That's right, $10,000.00 per year!

So we ask; where is our pay raise? Why are the pay study results not being released? Is this the results? Pay the command staff but not the line troops?

Isn't pay just one of the many reasons officers are leaving for other agencies? And we are
rewarded with this?

Im so done. Im putting in my 2 weeks notice. I cant make a living wage and the command staff gets raises. I give up.

Reminds me of how they did the take homes... They had the command staff turn in relatively new cars for new cars that were being fitted for the line.

Maybe we'll see the same... But they gotta get their raises first

Now imagine what's going to be expected in return for those raises. Let's just say you'd better grab several additional ticket books. I can almost hear the whip cracking in the background. You folks sure can tolerate the worst or the worst.

Just, holy shit! I'd say it's unbelievable, but it is DeKalb. I'll be putting my 2 weeks notice in as well.

It's the same as the county did in the late 90's. They give raises to the upper echelon so that those folks are bought and paid for so the upper echelon keeps the minions in line. It is cheaper for the county to do that than give the lower ranks a raise. Almost every time the county does something it really shows what value they place on the officers. The takehome cars are really nice and it was a huge start up cost for the county. BUT, what those cars mean in relation to putting food on the table is minuscule compared to how far the salaries have fallen behind over the last 8(?)years with only one 3% raise. The average increase in the cost of living is around 3% per year. Do that math and you will see what I mean. The county never seems to learn that when they put something off they can never catch up. Of course there's not much left after the county commissioners, the ceo, and their cronies get through siphoning the county money for themselves. Maybe the employees will get free admission to the new soccer stadium?!!!!

We need another ticket strike. We did it before and got results. When the county starts losing a few million a month, they'll beg us to come to the negotiating table. We are not required to write long copies. County policy says it is officer discretion. If we write a ton of warning tickets, it isn't a work slow down and they can't do a thing to us. No more long copies, only warnings. We hold out for a one time 10% raise for everyone below captain and they reinstate annual raises. This will only work if we all stick together.

Anonymous said...

Hold out for a 10% raise? I bet the pay study says we are due much more than that. Especially those of us who have been here for a long time.

Anonymous said...

Same old song & dance. Just leave and have a much improved quality of life for you and your family. There is no future here.

Anonymous said...

Stick to county policy... The most egregious violation gets a ticket .. the rest are warnings.

Hurt them by following county policy and you won't get in trouble.

Anonymous said...

Agreed! 10% immediate raise and reinstate annual raises, that is more than fair. After 8 years without a raise, we're all making about 24% less than we should be. We're only asking for half of that? The commissioners should be thanking their lucky stars were being so reasonable! This is not negotiatiable! No raises, no tickets! Starting now!

Anonymous said...

Damn and to think I considered coming back .. Decatur stay sticking it up y'all asses sans spit. Guys and girls keep you records clean do the bare minimum and leave that place there are other employers that truly value you even though dekalb doesn't .

Anonymous said...

A ticket strike doesn't work. Any numbers reporting the effect of previous attempts were distorted. A ticket strike just isn't effective. They are not even having TAC & Motors write many tickets now. Basically, if you stay at DeKalb you are at the mercy of a selfish, merciless board of commissioners that put no value in Public Safety. They put no value in Public Safety because it costs too much and they can't skim as much if they finance Public Safety the way it ought to be financed. A ticket strike sounds childish and doesn't sound good in the media. And we don't need to help the cop-hating groups with that. The one thing that the county has always had a fear of is a union. Maybe that is something that should be revisited! Also, if anyone knows someone in the State Legislature, maybe push for legislation that would make Public Safety an exception to the "Right to Work" laws since we can't legally protest or act in a manor like a regular employee. There needs to be laws enacted to give Public Safety bargaining rights.

And so it begins... Who will tow the line for the obviously corrupt and who will stand for what's morally right? Choose wisely my friends, your very freedom may depend on it.

Put your 2 week notice in. I did, several years ago and never regretted it. It is so much easier to simply.............stay. Stay and take their crap. Drink the water, it taste good at first but then ......turns putrid.

Leaving Dekalb makes you hustle, makes you do things you wouldn't ordinarily do, because its just easier to stay.

And the pathetic part......what they pay you is peanuts and not all that hard to replace.

Sorry as,s dangerous, thankless place to work for with absolutely NO FUTURE. And the blue order..........Captains and above...some were the sorriest, POS MPOs who'd ---- you over in a heart beat. Only the losers stay...........cause they can't do anything else....because....its easier to stay.

The violent crime rate is way up in Dekalb County. Over 10% increase just this year alone and it was bad last year and the year before that. There have been so many people shot in Dekalb just in the last week that I can't even keep up with the news stories. Drug dealers and gangs practically run several areas of this county.

But regardless of the complete failures of the management of the DKPD, they just continue to make appointed promotions to unqualified people to positions that are not needed. And now they are giving them large raises while the rest of us get nothing. Cedric travels the country using Dekalb tax payers money running his mouth about absolutely nothing. And have you seen the brand new SUV the tax payers bought for Conroy? And these idiots wonder why we have no respect for them???

Anonymous said...

Ticket strike last time did work. We were being forced to work for free one day a week. We cut back on tickets, Decatur felt it, the commissioners changed their minds. We have to do something. Doing nothing will guarantee nothing changes.

Anonymous said...

Sorry to say this but it'S the same old STORY...YOU GUY'S DON'T HAVE THE BALLS TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING !

Anonymous said...

Demand to see that pay study NOW !

Anonymous said...

I doubt anyone remains there with the fortitude, gall, and/or leadership skills needed to organize a real stand against the status corrupt quo. In fact, the BOC is COUNTING on it!

Anonymous said...

I swear to God, I was just told that we weren't getting raises until the whole "Everybody in the Maloof Building is going to jail" thing blows over. The feather merchants in the white shirts are getting real cash though. We need to unionize and STRIKE. Let the cookie pushers on West Exchange go do some police work.

Anonymous said...

Hell with a ticket strike. I'm going to use up every last bit of my sick and vacation time. Then quit.

Anonymous said...

Long and the short... The command staff and all officers deserve raises...

This is just a version of the question "do black lives matter!".... OR " do ALL lives matter?"

We got our answer from the command staff...next they'll tell us how uniform and CID are the most important units because they're the face of the department blah blah blah ... We feel bad about the raises we got and are in your corner...

Anonymous said...

ABSOLUTELY UNREAL

Pay cuts are coming. Pension contributions are going up in January.

Imagine what professionals think when they must visit a precinct and see water dripping from the ceiling into a bucket or a years old burned out building sitting across the street. They (like everyone else) view the obvious lack of priority by the BOC to maintain a professional and respected police department as part of a systematic breakdown in county government thus causing mass annexation to those same professional communities. Well this flows over into wages and has a direct impact on the quality of officer that it attracts to DKPD. In other words, you'll ALWAYS get what you pay for and the far reaching effects therein.

Have not gotten a pay raise since 2006. Had to go, yes it may take a few to get hired on with someone else but it was worth it. DeKalb county had been my family since December 2000. I was always told and thought that it could get no worse it's going to get better. Well I gave it a chance and 2015 was the year to move on. 15 year veteran gone good luck to all who stay. I really just miss the people beyond LT I could care less. Bunch of damn yes men who are getting a pay raise, terrible leaders do this crap. Great job BOC and Alexander the Great for letting this happen. You guys at the top got yours and that's all that matters. Screw uniform and CID special ops. Anyway good to see Lee May in trouble. Another looser just like Alexander and the crazy hire from Atlanta Major Anderson. What a joke she is. Good luck.

Ret. Officer BJ Hendricks badge 1423. I started with
DKPD in 1988 and hauled ass outta there in 2008. It
turned out to be the best decision I ever made! I loved
the road and being busy but not enough that I
could overlook the fact my once loved DKPD
was long since dead and gone. I made it as long as
I did because I policed because I took and oath
before God,my family and friends to follow the rules.
You guys haven't a clue what it was like to work for
Chief Bobby Burgess and then Chief Moody. You
Did Not Touch us without the wrath of those two coming
for you! The supervisors were beyond belief:
Whittington,Zade Harper,Huey,Brandenburg,Shumpert,
Davis,Steve Pittard,D.Loos,Mike Cruce,Nancy
Fairclothe, and 100 others! I was able to work with
some great people and I did so happily. Of course I
was able to do this because I went through training when
you had to earn it - you in fact had to take it from them!
Fred Becker,JT Irwin, Ellen Black, the late Derwin Brown and Col.
Hollington thank you for teaching me the right way. I say this to
hopefully make you able to see that DKPD is currently slipping away.
Ask yourself this question, "Do I want to died for a department I no
longer believe in?". I encourage you should you stay to police for the
right reason and police for your co-workers,your supervisors that are part
of the team, the people of Dekalb county and take pride in doing your job
in such a way your family and you can take pride from a job well done. Sounds
odd but they can't write you up for doing a good job...nor it seems
promote you...yup I went there!
I will continue to pray for each of you and for your guidance on making
the decision to stay or go. Keep your heads held high and know those doing
wrong will one day face a man that knows all they have done and
He will deal with it! If you have been there ten years or less then I encourage
you to try a different police department. All will have blemishes but not like
DKPD. I'm expecting any day to read that County Commissioners will be
clearing on calls...251 I'm clear,219 clear,Commissioner ----- clear!
Good luck guys and take care of your good guys and the ones that make you
mad everyday! Do not go to their level! Stay safe and know we all may be gone but
you are not forgotten!

To serve with DKPD in the 70's, 80's & 90's under Dick Hand, Bobby Burgess and Chief Moody was an honor and you could not hardly make somebody want to quit and then the circus started with Louis Graham, Bolton and this current idiot Cedric and it looks like cockroaches fleeing from a fire people are bailing so fast, to all that had the honor to serve when it was "GREAT" cherish the memories, so sad to see it go down in flames!!!

Conroy praised the lunatic BC Harris today at the comstat meeting. Urged everyone to attend his retirement party today. Conroy acts like he thinks he is a good guy. But the same BC Harris was found to be untruthful a while back during an IA investigation and Conroy knows it. If it were an MPO caught telling lies he would have been fired. No respect for these people at all.

It just shows its not only Decatur who is corrupt but good old Cedric THE Entertainer and his ass kissers who will do anything and never stand up for the troops. I could care less if a crime is never solved or another ticket is written. Commissioners I would think this is going to be a wake up call. Either you get rid of this bunch of idiots or everyone will do the bare minimum which is basically what the officers in Baltimore did and how is that working out for them. Cedric is always out of town and never here to run things anyway. Just another Tebo and Wiz. Why do we need that position anyway another 185,000. for him to rum around the country and call CNN wanting to get on TV. So boys and girls i say we handle calls and nothing else until we get the $10,000.00 a year raise a certain Captain has been bragging about getting. No more solved cases by detectives and no more tickets by the officers. Lets just see haw many more cities will want to incooperate and put theses idiots out of business

Anonymous said...

This happens when the standards were lowered in the late 1980's and over the years the unqualified get hired and then eventually get promoted due to federal laws.

Anonymous said...

Some of those idiots were hired back in the 70's and retained for GOD knows why. I can think of one who was completely illiterate and had trouble with basic sentence structure in conversation much less an entire written paragraph which is needed for any report. That fool made captain and finally retired. A lot of good officers were hired over the years, even recently I have been told, but 90% will leave quickly once they realize the ship is sinking fast all around them and their abilities used as a tool against them.

Lesson #1 - Don't be good at your job or the idiots who aren't will be out to get you!
Lesson #2 - Don't be good at your job or the public will blame you and call you a racist for catching them breaking the law.
Lesson #3 - Don't be good at your job or the county commissioners, who are a bunch of crooks, will come down hard on you and NOT give you raises and bump up your medical insurance cost/copay.

You pretend to work and they pretend to pay you....sorta sounds like a third world, banana republic communist regime don't it.
Sounds

Lol...tomorrow is the big day... The pay study will be presented to the BOC... I hear the high ups are allowed to review the study in a secure location ...a county version of the "cone of silence"... but making copies is not allowed .

We're gonna get 5% with a 2% increase in pension... Another pay study ignored and manipulated.

APD just lost more than 100. With the majority going to Cobb PD. And I heard they still need more. With the new HUGE stadium complex in Cobb with nice restaurants and other attractions, tremendous growth around KSU, the new football team, new campus expansions, new housing EVERYWHERE, new above ground highway extension on 75 to ease traffic, new construction in both the north and the south side.... better quality of life and decency in governance, Cobb PD is the place to be.

And I can assure you, they are treated well.

It's gotten so bad that APD is offering FREE HOMES in the city to officers who stay for a couple of years.

It's not just Dekalb but it's the culture of law enforcement here that doesn't see the tremendous value in it's officers. If they respected us, we would never be treated so poorly.

Cobb will do you better. Trust me.

Think I'll get my plumbing license and make the current $100.00/hr instead of this pathetic 30 yr old rate of $20-$30/hr. Plus I don't have to worry about having to kill someone from simply doing my job and go to prison for it and lose everything I have.

$10,000 a year ? Ain't it funny though,I have never seen a Captain asking for a pay raise during a tv interview, explaining why *other* Captain's are leaving,or why they are going to another department for better benefits. I have never really understood the necessity,or purpose of that particular rank, anyway. Corporal's,Sergeant's, Lieutenant's,and 1 Major,1 asst.Chief,1 Chief. That,s all any P.D. would ever need. All the other personnel should be officer's,and detectives. That other *extravangant* pay should be distributed to all the other departmental ranks,as mentioned. Besides, why have all these other ranks like Deputy Chief's,assistants to assistants,or whatever. It is just some *egotistical title*,for a rank that serves no function. Personally, from experience,I would much rather have a Cpl,Sgt,or a good Lt to help pull some perp off my ass, than some Captain just standing there, watching.
