Pension Contributions to Increase

Our pension contributions are on the rise.

If you were employed before September 1, 2005, your's will increase to 10.48%. If you were employed after that, its's increasing to 8.51%.

Yes, with the new city hoods refusing to contribute to our pension, eventhough we protected them for years, the pension fund has to be funded, putting more of the burden on us.

But whatever happened to the pay study? The county can come up with millions of dollars for a soccer field, but they can't seem to find the money for a overdue raise.

Anybody know what happened to the percentage of property taxes that were set aside for police and fire salaries several years ago.

Most cities in the county still receive county services to some degree or another, Fire Rescue and DKSO for example. They should contribute to the pension. Hopefully this will change.

For the county to really save money, the pension at some future date should be closed and then have all those new employees rely on the 401K for savings. The difference between pension and the 401k, is that the 401K is voluntary savings as opposed to forced savings. The county can contribute to both, but the amount of funds going into the 401K is usually less than what is required for the defined pension.

Most jurisdictions have changed over to the 401K, but DeKalb has a large amount of lazy bums who need help in savings because they spend too much time at the QTs buying their lottery tickets, thus no savings because it was spent. That is real intelligence on the part of employees.

I'm hearing they want to give us another "one time bonus" instead of a raise. WTF do I want with a one time bonus that won't help cover the pension and health care costs that will only go up again next year.... don't tell me my health stayed the same...my out of pocket is ridiculous!

Check out Blue DeKalb on Facebook. We need to band together and form a union.

Bolton was the worst chief we ever had, but at least he went commission meetings and stood up for us. Alexander and Conroy arent doing anything. They only care about themselves. The only ones with the guts to speak out at commission meetings is a sergeant and a lieutenant. Thanks Swain and Himer.
