                               SIGNIFICANT PAY RAISE

Well the Dekalb county CEO and the board of Commissioners did it to us again. They made a huge media announcement and put on a show to make an announcement of a significant pay raise for public safety in Dekalb county.

They had the nerve to get in front of the media and announce a 4% pay raise to public safety, they said how public safety is a priority to them in Dekalb county.
A significant raise would be the raise that the commissioners voted for themselves earlier this year which was 60% raise, or the pay parody raise that all captains and above received in the police department. That would be a significant raise for the police officers.
The very next day the city of Atlanta approved a 30% pay raise for the police officers which is a significant raise. I guess the city of Atlanta has a different definition of significant and appreciates public safety.

what happened to the second stage of the pay study, where the officers who have been here over 15 years were going to get taken care of. we were told we would receive the second stage of the pay study and the commissioners decided to table it and we were forgotten about again. if i was a young officer i would leave because you can see this county will not take care of a veteran employee. they will use you and abuse you until you just leave. dont waste your time and life with this department.

some of us officers were talking about our 4% raise and how it is a joke when Atlanta received a 30% raise. we had our Captain tell us we should just be thankful to have a job and if it is that bad we should go to Atlanta. It is easy to say that when you were taken care of and you received your big raise. this is the problem we are top heavy and the command staff has forgotten what it is like to be a real police officer. they dont have to work overtime and three part time jobs to provide for their family.

I am at the end of my career, I am stuck here, I feel sorry for the young officers they will never be paid or treated well.

All I can say is good bye Dekalb and hello Atlanta. I will gladly give up my take home car for a 30% raise.

How many times do we need to be lied to and treated like garbage before we stand together and show them they have to pay us. I think it is time we make a statement by hurting them with the revenue.

The CEO is supposedly an educated man, how can he look at the pay study and think that 4% will take care of the inadequacies in pay for the different ranks and for veteran officers. why tell officers what the top out pay is when you hire them if they will never reach the top out pay. you wonder why we are unhappy well its right in front of your face. it is in the pay study you paid for and voted on. now we get lied to again and treated like a cheap prostitute, you use us then push us to the side.

I was excited to get my 10 year pin and thought I would make Dekalb a career, after being lied to and seeing for myself how this county and department does not care about the officers who sacrifice many different things and many different aspects of their lives. I can’t stay here and be a 20 year veteran and not be topped out at the pay rate I was told I would be. I will go to a department that will appreciate me and that will pay me.

Dekalds new recruiting motto, come work for Dekalb where we will use you , lie to you and underpay you.

I was with Dekalb police for 13 years, I left for another agency and in four years I was making more than when I left Dekalb. If you can leave you need to do so NOW. If you are thinking about working for Dekalb do not do it

Every department has its own salary and leadership problems. At least at Dekalb you will learn real police tactics and the future may hold more pay increases with promotion advances.

Unfortunately Dekalb Co Govt views LE as a necessary evil as do most liberal, democrat run cities. They don't care how many calls you have to go to without backup, proper equipment, or relevant leadership. Your shoes will be filled with another naive idealist in their eyes so it's no loss to the corrupt "leaders" of Dekalb. Until tragedy strikes and shines light on their gross incompetence nothing will change. They are no different than the thugs you have to force into compliance on a daily basis.
