Bolton's Vision Continues

While DeKalb County has one of it’s more memorable violent 24 hours (4 murders), the F.B.I. has released its crime statistics for 2007.

Pedestrian robberies jumped 17 percent in 2007. The department’s statistics for the first half of 2008 showed 967 pedestrian robberies — up 26 percent from the 2007 pace.

DeKalb also averaged 10 homicides a month in the first half of 2008 and appears on its way to a third consecutive record year in that category.

Residential burglaries jumped 21 percent in 2007 and were up 41 percent at midyear 2008.

Overall, the county Police Department reported a 12 percent increase in violent crime and a 23 percent increase in property crimes for the first half of 2008.

In each year Bolton has been Chief, crime has rose . We thought TeBo’s motto is “New Start, New Beginning”? He started alright, right where he left off in Dallas from where he was terminated.

We hope Burrell Ellis is keeping up with Bolton’s ineptness and fires him on January 2, 2008, Ellis’2nd day in office.

Best line from the Dallas article:

"...the lesson is that if the head is broken, the limbs can't function properly."

Please know we citizens recognize how crippled our officers really are under Bolton's leadership. We know you guys and gals are doing your absolute best with what you have to protect us. Rest assured many of us are doing our best to help - we are talking to any official who'll listen and telling them to get rid of Bolton and do the RIGHT things to support DKPD!!!

You folks are on the streets and know what's really happening day in and day out. If you had the top 5 things citizens can ask for to help you better do your jobs (and ultimately reduce these ridiculous stats) what would they be?

We'll be taking notes...

What we need:

1. Officers that answer 911 calls and patrol. Too many sworn in admin type positions

2. Patrol cars with working computers and an NCIC/GCIC system that is up more than down

3. Did I say patrol cars.....don't know where we're gonna put these new hires.

4. Tasers

5. Canines and Helicopters on duty 24 x 7

6. More detectives. Their case load is outrageous and their numbers are dwindling

8. Bullet proof vests that are not expired. Rookies are using old vests and some veterans have vests that are beyond the expiration date.

9. A second look at the compensation system. A well respected firm once studied DKP, made recommendations and was ignored.

10. To bring back the 2.75% pension back so we can go back to hiring quality officers.

11. Management that is more concerned with policing and professionalism instead of perks and the perks that go along with all these titles. We need supervisors ready to do whatever it takes to get the job done, not protect their position and the perks that go with it.

That's my be stab at the question. I'm sure there are officers with more incite and intelligence than I bring to the table.

After you read the article posted, replace the city name with DeKalb County and the leaders with our commissioners. Looks like we have the same problem.
