CEO Ellis announes 2009 Budget - Here are some highligts.

  • Police see a slight decline of 0.4 percent, but sworn officer positions are unaffected. The savings come from a reduction in the number of take-home vehicles.
  • The establishment of an Office of the Director of Public Safety to oversee the operation of Police, Fire Rescue and the Medical Examiners Officer.
  • Continuation of the 18-month Master Police Officer incentive plan designed to retain senior officers who attain this designation.
Some of you folks may want to think about getting your personal cars out from the mothballs or get your MARTA card renewed. Gravy train coming to an end for the ICP folks it looks like.

Everybody please read Sunday's paper. It says that Dekalb is also saving money by elimanating merit increases. How does the CEO think he will retain officers if he takes away our (already drop in the bucket) merit increases? That is surely the wrong way to go. Good news MPOS-you will continue to get your MPO incentives that started last year. But for us supervisors, we get nada. No merit increase, no incentive. Is it too late to become a security guard?

Hopefully Ellis will limit each employee to one take home car. Did Bolton really need an Suburban and a Rangerover? What about when Pearson was here? He had about three cars.

Gwinnett HERE WE COME!

Instead of a Director of PS, 180K job, why not use that to fund merit increase. Oh, right. The BOC voted against that. Well, not the whole board...Boyer, Ellis, Gannon and Rader. We don't seem to have the money to support PD but we have the money to create more beauracracy.

I saw the continuation of the MPO incentive, but I didn't see where it talked about Merit increases.

Oh well, that extra 12 pack that I can afford with the meager raise they give me......after they take it back via pension and insurance increases.... is probably better left on the shelf. I need to watch my girlish figure anyway.

Not only are Merit Increases being removed for 2009, but the Sick Leave Incentive Program is also being axed for 2009; so that means that there is not going to be a Sick Check at the end of the year for those who dont take Sick Leave or who take a minimal amount???? Hmmmmm...no merit increase to help defray the increased insurance premiums and no incentive to not burn Sick Time.

I would gladly give up my MPO incentive if it would merit increases for all sworn officers. Any others?

Does upper management really think that the officers that are at high risk of leaving are those who have been here 5+ years?? the ones that are leaving are the ones who have been here anywhere from 1.5 years up to MPO. With a 2200ish badge number, I have been here to long to start over and throw seven years away.

Although I did hear waste management is hiring. im used to dealing with garbage anyways!

Who will want to be a supervisor when those you supervise make as muchh as you? Where is the incintive to become a supervisor?

Maybe the supervisors should start leaving they may start taking things more seriously and stop messing with our pay.

Now, why does Dekalb need a Director of Public Safety?? You have a Sheriff, a bloated top heavy police department (APD doesn't even have that many people at the top as DKPD has) and several jurisdictions with their own PD's who can agency assist if needed.

The rank and file needs to be taken care of first. If not, then I have the feeling DKPD will end up like APD....We get there when we get there attitude.

And who said "Ellis" was here to save the day! Be careful what you ask for. The grass is NOT always greener on the other side. Thanks trouble makers.
