Thank you for posting our pension information.

If what I am seeing is correct, our pension fund is only down a quarter, rather than the fifty percent of the stock market. Looks like our financial managers are doing a good job. Thanks, guys!

I'm not a public safety employee but I and others that I know read this site to become familiar with what is going one in the county. This appears to be the only place available to get the news as far as we know. I contribute to our pension and I am concerned that we are able to protect our pension from politicians and others, considering what I have heard recently nationally. I read in another post in another catagory about an "executive package" in reference to our pension benefits to certain individuals and something about politicians being allowed to buy back into the pension for some reason. There were no details or an explanation about this. I think we should all be in the loop as to wether some people are getting a better deal on the pension than the working / " line level " employee. Can someone, possibly a pension board member or anyone, give details on this or squash the rumors? Are the pension board members available to receive input from the lowely masses and can they act on our concerns? Do we have any input?
Thank You.

Guys as others have pointed this is just a rumor. I seem to have started something so let me clarify where this particular rumor came from. Vernon got himself appointed to the pension board, something that I cannot recall before in 20 plus years with the county, so I thought it was extremely suspicious that Vernon got himself appointed to our board. Vernon has never been a friend to DeKalb employees. Then the pension board came out with the new employee pension plan, and as we all know it sux compared to the old plan. I reasoned that Vernon would not leave him-self out on a good deal, and asked a pension board member if there was a secret executive pension plan, and he told me I had insulted him and hung up on me. About a year back I was talking with someone from HR and asked about it and they replied they had heard something about it, but had no evidence to back it. Thinking about it now reminds me that Vernon would be covered by the old pension plan that was in effect when Vernon was elected and hired by the county. Still it would be nice to get a hold of documents that can show whether such a plan exists or doesn't. I would prefer a letter from the pension board and documentation proving that such a plan does not and has never existed....

There was also something about Jones being able to buy back time, for time served in the Georgia General assembly? Is that true and if so why could not other employees buy bsck time for similar jobs held in civilian or military?

That's odd. Were Manuel or Leanne on the pension board? If so, I see nothing wrong with Mr. CEO being on the board. If the formers were not, I see something very strange and an association with the previous comments. Why would the board allow Mr CEO to be on the board? Maybe we need the boaard to be more open with us. It is only recently and with the help of this blog that the board is letting us in on the gut's of the operation as far as I know...key comment is as far as I know. I may not know and I don't know anything for sure about the previous comments. Only rumors. Rumors upset an organization. Any organization that is overwhelmed with un quelled rumors is a sick entity. Mr Ellis seems to be one who sees this. Maybe he can quell the rumors in the pension part of this blog.

To my knowledge, no commissioner or CEO has ever been on the board. I think Vernon's motivation was to organize a new pension plan that would produce large savings to DeKalb county. I now believe Vern was too smart to ask for an "Executive benefits package or plan". It would be easily found at some point and besides Vern, was grand-fathered under the very good old plan.
The problem with the new pension plan is that DeKalb has always made the employees low pay worthwhile on the "back-end" with a generous pension. Vern brought in a pension that no longer provides motivation to draw good, qualified employees. Combined with the huge pay increases for our commissioners and CEO whilst our pay remained static amidst 20 percent inflation. DeKalb employee morale is rock bottom. Good employees have gone before the CEO commissioners only to discover that they are held in contempt by their employer. It is extremely difficult to retain quality employees under these conditions...

I'm curious. What kind of pension do the elected officials, judges etc get? We have to work a certain number of years and be of a certain age to retire. What do the elected types get for their 4 or 8 year service? A full meal deal or what?
