Vernon Jones Surfaces in Albany Georgia as a Gang Expert

Vernon Jones has surfaced in Albany Ga speaking to more than 75 law enforcement officials about gang activity. We guess he can call himself an expert, after all, he was the biggest gangster to run DeKalb County.

The fact is DeKalb County is infested with gangs, particularly the North Precinct. If the appointment of the commander of the Gang Unit/Homeland Security is any indication of Vernon's expertise, the people of Albany need to run him out of town now while they still can.

We call it now; Vernon will be making a move for Albany Major in 2012, if he isn't indicted by then.

Vernon Jones is giving advice about parenting skills? Good lord, my dog knows much more about being a parent than that hoodlum will ever know. Geeeezzzeeeee they should just go to the state prison system and get some drug dealers, armed robbers and murderers to give a speech. At least those guys don’t pretend to be upstanding members of society as Vernon does. I have more respect for the guys in prison. At least they are not hypocrites.
There is really not much you can say about Don Frank and our Homeland Security Division that hasn’t already been said. Just one large, ineffective, grinning, laughing and money wasting joke.

I don't know much about gangs, I try to stay as far away from that as possible as I am an unprotected "citizen" not carrying. Vernon would be considered an "expert" on gangs only by the uninformed and mis-guided. I expect Vern will be appointed to a government anti-gang "council" somewhere in the metro area. I remember Pat Jarvis, the corrupt DeKalb Sheriff taking kickbacks from the food vendors, received an appointment to some useless council by the governor after his sudden resignation and before he went to prison before the even more infamous and notoriously corrupt DeKalb Sheriff, Sidney Dorsey. (I still believe that there was a lot more to the corruption in Dorsey's staff, and the murder of our beloved Derwin Brown, I don't believe Dorsey ordered the hit and the man who did, Cuffy walked free, courtesy of a poor decision to provide immunity by the DeKalb DA, the highly respected J. Tom. Sorry J. Tom, I call 'em the way I see 'em.)Getting back to good 'ole Vern, Vern is being covered by way too many elected officials high up in DeKalb government to be successfully prosecuted, but many underneath are more exposed and should be investigated. I would love to hear Vern comment on the firing of his "yes-man", ex-chief Bolton.

Why hasn't Ellis and O'Brien gotten rid of Don Frank and cleaned up the Homeland Security Division?

Better DeKalb said...

So Vernon is Lee P. Brown Jr. Nothing like getting paid to "speak" (aka campaign) in an area which didn't support him in his Senatorial Race. So slimy.

Patience grass hopper, Patience! Ol Donny boy knows he days are numbered.
Vernon should know somthing about gangs and drugs, he was the biggest runner in Dekalb.
If you havent had the opportunity to read the deposition from his rape victim, I would suggest doing so.
I honestly look forward to the day the man stops breathing, then I will feel at peace.

Didn't Vernon make the DKPD Honor Guard perform at a dead gang-banger's funeral a few years back because his mommy was a good friend of Vernon Jones? Maybe he knows more about gangs than you guys give him credit for!

Why can't they increase the Gang unit, there is grant money out there

Anonymous said...

Did he go out without a security detail? Oh my word what courage.

Anonymous said...

Well he brought the Katrina Gangs to DeKalb County. It only cost this county one of the highest crime rates we have ever had in Dekalb history.

Come on guys, let's focus on the department and this high crime we need to rid. I agree lets increase the gang unit they are needed asap

Time to bring "Red-dog" back! Why were they shut down anyway?

We never had Red dawgs, you rookie

Pablo, I am not even a cop, just a long time county employee who does a lot of work for you. Feel free to hammer me when I don't know what I am talking about. This is not about ego's but what is best for the county...

What was the "reason" why the Black Cats went the way of the dodo? I was away from ATL when that happened. When they were around they did seem to be effective for street level stuff

Lo Flyer, I think what you meant was the Black Cats which worked with and had a close relationship with the Narcotics Section in the past. This relationship is almost non existent today in large part due to Assistant Chief Rancifer and Lt. A. J. who have helped ruin a lot of things in the department. The Black Cats were made up of SWAT Team members. These two units working together put A LOT of bad guys in jail over the years. Big egos and incompetent leadership has made sure that no one really works with anyone else these days. The Black Cats (almost extinct) are DeKalb County Police and the Red Dogs are Atlanta Police. There are many similarities in terms of their mission.

Thanks for your input!

Well put....thanks for all you do LoFlyer.

This is LoFlyer, my Google login is not working for some reason...Pablo, apology accepted, but not really needed, I just wanted to make sure everyone knows I am not a cop but am a employee who cares deeply about DeKalb county and its problems. I do not want anyone to think that I am something I am not. I did spend six years in the Navy, so I understand the discipline and chain of command used by Police services. (I always get a kick walking through east precinct and the recruits all stopping, going to attention and giving me a "by your leave sir!" I give 'em a courteous "Carry on" just like the officers did when I was in the boot-camp) I work closely with the folks on the 5th floor in the 1960 building on various projects and issues. I know the county government as well or better than anyone due to my 20 plus years of servicing every department within the county. I have smelt the stink of raw sewage entering the Pole Bridge sewer treatment plant and gloried in the beautiful view from the new CEO's office on the 5th floor of the Ponce building. The point I am trying to make, is I have been around the block a few times with the county government and know how its supposed to work. There is much to be fixed within DeKalb government and the DKPD and I want to help fix it. This may take a decade but it can be done. You have to start somewhere and this Blog seems to be the place to start. I would like to thank the anonymous creator of this blog for their sacrifice and dedication to the county for this blog. We all know what the penalty in DeKalb is for being the messenger of bad news. But you can't fix the problem unless you know what the problem is, and this blog allows anonymous discussion of the counties issues with hopefully no career terminations. For all DeKalb officers, you have my utmost respect, even when you give me a ticket. I would not have your jobs, nor could I ever do your jobs. I don't have the personality for it. I do care deeply about DeKalb government and love working with you guys, y'all do a lot of interesting and exciting things....

Hey, Dwight Thomas said what Vernon had was a "legitmate adult encounter"!!

Where is Sgt. Michael White? Has anyone seen or heard from him lately?

You can increase all the special units like the gang unit and Black Cats. But if you have their hands tied behind their backs, pull them off working dope or gang related crimes to do the work of TRT and special ops. Then what good is it. It's like Forrest Gump "stupid is is stupid does". We have units that dont even do their jobs. Once upon a police story, we had one of the best Intel units around. Now Intel never leaves the office, i guess you can find all your intel on Myspace now. Like many of you have said, just let them police and make the DA's office put them away and Dekalb could be on its way back to glory

I really don't want to hear ANYTHING about Vernon Jones. I'm just glad he is gone from us.

This is really funny . . .

Jones advising Albany about gangs? A few years ago there was a gang gun fight in front of my house on the last day of school (Cross Keys HS). Jones told me there were no gangs in DeKalb. Incredible!
