I have to wonder if Ofc's Barker and Bryant died from the same thing: de-escalation training, excuses from the chief (who managed to show up for the photo op at the service), ICP and campers. Somewhere, someone has to acknowledge that there is one type of person who can't be reasoned with, can't be "understood" and can't be made to like us, no matter how many "new and improved programs" that we start but never seem to finish. That type of person has to be dealt with quickly and violently so that the good people that we serve are properly protected. Now, before all of the bedwetters go hide under their mama's skirts, take 5 Prozac and plead for an emergency group therapy session, dealing with a violent perp in an equal manner sets the example for all of the vermin that would try a Dekalb County Cop. Anyone wonder why we haven't had the shootings that we did just a few years ago? Maybe Thumbhead and TayTay are scared of us again. Wow, what a concept. That fear saves lives: ours and the citizens that we are sworn to protect.
Well said!!!! Police are not meant to be touchy feely. We are here to protect, and sometimes that means you have to get nasty.
Well now I would have to concur with #1352, people are who they are and most likely they will not change.
Bad people exists in our world and asking nicely will only get you so far, at somepoint you will have to step up to the plate and spank thier asses, just like the Oakland PD officers did.
Even after thier comrads in arms had been killed they went to seek out the evil in the world that must be eliminated.
I fear for my children in todays society, and personally have no issues with sending lead downrange.
So I say thank you to all the officers who step up to the plate and handle thier business, instead of hideing behind me.

Sgt. have to agree with you, and thank you for saying it so well. I have said since the days of the old C.O.P. program that warm and fuzzy doesn't lower the crime rate. Draw a line and don't back down, go back to the kick ass and take names approach.
And oh yeah, bullshit complaints are just that, quit persecuting officers that are doing their job!

Building security in DeKalb county is a joke except at the courthouse. These rent-a-cops depend upon "security by co-operation" as long as everyone co-operates every thing is fine, but if someone decides they don't want to co-operate, security is powerless to do anything about it accept to call 911 or the Sheriff deputies. The Callaway bldg. is a perfect example, security and metal detectors were brought in when we had court-rooms in the building 10 years ago. Now the court-rooms are gone, along with the probation office. There is no reason to keep security in the Callaway bldg. but it remains just the same, providing security "welfare" for some people who probably need it because they have no ambition in life. I believe in security by intimidation, big beefy cops with guns who know how to use guns and muscle to stop someone.
what if we use Dekalb County Police reservist to work theses buildings?
Not a bad idea Ole school, but I suspect the pay is so low that no one would be interested except welfare recipients. What needs to be done is a threat assesment of county buildings. Many building with security guards probably don't need it. But after 911 the county under Vern got into security big time. As I said previously most of this is useless. Either do it right or don't do it at all.
