Job Well Done!

Our outstanding uniform officers and detectives worked hand in hand to take a dangerous, violent criminal off the streets before he had the opportunity to prey once again on innocent DeKalb County citizens.

This type of police work makes us all proud of our police officers and how we will not tolerate evil in our county.

Better yet, we don’t have TeBo around to parade his cronies in front of the media taking personal credit for the arrest. If anybody should be paraded in front of the cameras, it should be the grunt police officers in the street and the tired exhausted Major Crimes detectives involved.

Stay tuned more to come.

To the guys and gals in the trenches, we appreciate all y'all do!

The upper command staff did not understand how important this case was until late in the game. For the most part they are incredibly dysfunctional. This case was solved by officers and detectives changing their hours, working long hours and just busting their ass to get the job done. There were also a couple of sergeants and maybe a lieutenant or two who busted their ass also. While the overall upper leadership in this department has been screwed up for years, there are some incredible, dedicated and talented police officers who work here.

Now imagine how much better we could be if we could get the same type of officers in the upper command staff.

How could this happen without the Magic Bus around? Hmmmmm, must have been plain old police work. Good job to all involved.

Excellent job- especially for not even having radios that work as they should!

Anonymous said...

Guess some Major's just been given a little more room to breath.

Bet he even worked a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Wonder what his family did without him for one weekend.

Dekalb Police is the best, Dunwoody will regret leaving our police protection.

Anonymous said...

what our radios dont work? your kidding? especially since the new million dollar digital tower at east precinct, wow what a great deal, that fixed everything!!! NOT!

Anonymous said...

Way to go Officer Ritchie, Officer Campbell and Officer Hambie. This is a monumental catch. We need more officers like you. Go Center precinct evening watch, the best in the County!!!

-Center Precinct HIT Team-

Although several people were involved in this amazing bust, Center Precinct Evening Watch deserves the majority of the credit. Way to go!

This is a great example of being in the right place at the right time, paying attention, and digging deeper.

These perps could have very easily been missed by an officer driving around and chatting on his cell phone with his girlfriend.

Let's just hope the hard work of so many Officers and Detectives is not thwarted by our lenient and irresponsible Superior Court Judges. ((Yancey!))

PatsQB said...

Ron Burgandy You are correct. Tom Brady is proud. I miss being a crime fighter. Send a few REAL perps up here, draw 'em a map or something.

Just an observation in the form of a question -

How can things like these Briarcliff Road armed robberies, sexual assaults and stabbings take place in Dekalb County?

With all the specialized units, I thought this was all under control. What are the Precinct Net teams, the Divisional (or whatever they call themselves) Net teams, and ICP doing?

Whatever happened to Strike Force? When not doing raids or practicing, we used to see them out in the problem areas.

Do we need to expand each of those units and just do away with the uniform watchs?

Anon 16, from what I understand, several things have happened, Poor leadership by the CEO in hiring Mr. Bolton as police chief. All us old timers knew this was the beginning of a train wreck when we saw it. Vern turns down several better qualified individuals in favor of his personal "yes-man" choice, Mr. Bolton. (Thanks Vern, you just blew 75 grand in the "national recruit search" that was ignored by you. That would of been a nice raise you incompetent SOB.) Katrina, Vern opens a Katrina Disaster Relief center banking the feds would pay back the county. It attracted a lot of dispossed NO victims, and apparently a lot of criminals, they decided they liked DeKalb alot and stayed. The Feds backed out of the funding and the center dropped like a rock, we had it shut down the next day. Metro Area housing projects have been demolished over the last 5-10 years resulting in a lot of displaced criminals deciding they like DeKalb better than the projects. Combined with Mr. Boltons incompetent leadership DeKalb is where we are now. There are a lot people who want to fix, DeKalb, we just need DeKalb political leadership to listen to what we say.

Strike Force is made up of the best officers in the county. Unfortunately, when they have an egomaniac like Rancifer calling the shots, they don't get used properly.

Instead of being under CID, working hand in hand with the Detectives who can tell them on a daily basis what the major problems in the county are, they are under Special Ops, where they are stuck writing tickets.

I have seen a noticeable presence of DKPD along LaVista and Briarcliff since the attacks. It is great to swift action being taken. DeKalb Officers, thank you for making DeKalb safer!

Better Dekalb said.... "I have seen a noticeable presence of DKPD along LaVista and Briarcliff since the attacks."

Better Dekalb got the luxury of having the special units visit and patrol the neighborhood. Long ago, a citizen was praising the ICP unit because it was in his/her neighborhood.

I wonder what that citizen thinks of the idea now that his/her neighborhood is not the focus of the ICP.

Wouldn't it be better to have more officers patrolling every neighborhood on a permanent basis?

Anonymous said...

Ok, its simple make Whittington and Banks, Majors and they will show you how to take care of your troops, fight crime and clear the unwanted loitering on the corners. For the first time in two years I get excited about coming to work. Center Evening watch ROCK!

Oh yeah they don't write you up for trying to police your beat. I bet our stats are better than ICP and NET combined

Anonymous said...

No perks for uniform, can we talk take home cars.
Atleast for
MPO's and above. We are the backbone of the department

Anonymous said...

Since you all recognize the strength of the uniform division can we get some ways to increase and pick up morale?

david cassidy said...

I'm a veteran officer and I just want to say that when Rutland was over SWAT them guys were not arrogant and they spoke to their fellow Officer. What happen is it a click? Do they think they are better than others? We are all blue, we all are on the same side. It is sickning and a disgrace. Please loose the arogant spirit and clean them streets.

pablo escabar stienberg said...

Obrien I think you will get the job however we got to help out uniform division (it sucks) troops are not motivated,
Rookies training rookies,
Morale is low. I bet if we got take home cars I know
productivity will raise and it will pay for the cars.we must think outside the box. Obrien you can do it you got what it takes. We are making arrest and writting tickets to show the CEO that we can and will crush crime and also add to the general fund because if you act a fool you will pay. Go Obrien go

Anonymous said...

i have never found the SWAT team to be arrogant. They always seem to go out of thier to speak and are always helpful. Sure there may be some arrogant officers on SWAT but arrogant officers are everywhere in this department.

The only thing that confuses me is why would somone take the focus off of the great job that these officers did and start to telling me how great rutland is.. riiigghhhtt.

david cassidy said...

Great job detectives and center precinct evening watch.there is power in numbers.

Chief if you are reading this blog can we change the uniforms to all black or blue. It will be a great symbol that we are back and we have a better direction. This will help morale as well as take home cars for MPOs and above. If you desire to be a MPO you have to fto for a year and have your advance certification and 3.5 or above on your eval. We give the MPO position away and then we have to beg them to fto. I hope we can make it more challenging
The money we use to pay for the lazy MPOs we can use for take home cars for the motivated MPOs who contributes to the success of the department.any worth having is worth working for.

Combine all net teams and ICP give them BDU's and supervisors who can find crime. Let them clean up the streets
Let swat do swat nlet Gang do gangs and let the new street crime reduction unit made up of ICP and Net crush crime take names and kick butt.let's name them "the thunder cats"

Anonymous said...

Bono...wtf?? Thunder Cats?! ROTFLMAO...go Center Precinct HIT Team!!

Anonymous said...

The fact is that when Rancifer and AJ took over the SWAT Team/Strike Force it took a huge negative turn. Of course the same can be said for everything that Bolton touched while he was here. NUMEROUS people on this blog have asked what happened to SWAT and the Black Cats. It is not that there are not great officers on the team but it is the leadership. There are many people who are on the team and some who are not on the team who say that Rutland did a much better job regarding leadership. If the truth stings a few people and hurts some feelings then so be it.

In my view everyone should be aware of this fact; there are SOME supervisors in this department who are hoping that Bolton will come back. I am sure you can figure out their motivations for yourself.

Now as someone else said about the arrests on Briarcliff, it really doesn’t have anything to do with SWAT or who is in charge of it. From everything that I can tell it looks like the detectives and the officers (Center Precinct) did an outstanding job on this case and they deserve an enormous amount of credit. Good teamwork put some hardcore criminals in jail!

@Better Dekalb:

This citizen still praises ICP for being in his neighborhood - they're still here, still making an huge impact because we've built a good relationship with them.

jc mellancamp said...

Swat guys are arrogant very arrogant. This starts from their leaders. We are all dkpd.not a click

brittany said...

I agree you swat bubbas are a little snooty

Anonymous said...

You are missing my point, this is not about Rutland its about teamwork, respect and a degree of humblness. I guess he got you worried you must hear them foot steps.

Anonymous said...

A lot of good comments, and hopefully command is looking at 'em. A good commander always listens to his troops, and O'Brien has your respect as a commander so I assume he is reading this stuff also, along with a few Majors and LT's. From what I have seen of this blog, anyone who gives a damn about this county is commenting and many of us do know what is going on. As far as Rancifer is conerned I have had little contact, but I have met him face to face more than a few times and he struck me as the typical "Fighter jock mentality" I saw in the Navy. Arrogant with an ego 10 foot tall. Don't get me wrong, these personality characteristics keep a fighter pilot alive when he is engaging superior forces in combat. But they do lead to management conflicts as the fighter jock gains in seniority and authority. And while I am on the subject, the one thing that really pissed me off about the Helo crews were their shoulder holsters with the barrel of the gun pointing straight at my face if I was walking behind them, Uhm, is the safety on or is it off? I couldn't tell....

Anonymous said...

Center precinct HIT TEAM sounds catchy. What about a county wide unit made of the highly aggressive officers who still work for a living

Anonymous said...

I think SWAT guys should be arrogant!! From what I can tell they are better than us and they sure make a uniform look good!!! yummy!!

Anonymous said...

safteys???? our handguns don't have safteys. I guess your one of these people who think guns go off by themselves. Look at the one on your gun belt it's either pointing at your foot our your leg depending on who fat you are.

Anonymous said...

easy with the yummy comments about SWAT. you are gonna make these people fill more inadequate than they already do. just say they're delicious instead.

New uniforms please all black

Center Precinct HIT team is recruiting...Tom Brady is our primary target...I'll donate 3% of my retirement (the GOOD retirement) to Brady's crappy retirement he would get if he came back. I'm sure other officers would do the same. Come on back Tom and do some REAL police work.

Anonymous said...

Anon37, Obviously you haven't been aquainted with the old Navy 1.1 auto-cannon AA gun, circa 1940-43. The peice of crap would fire by itself with no gun crew present, and several Gunny chiefs told me about them in their sea tales. Getting back to modern hand guns, wear and tear on a gun will cause them to malfunction, and from what I have seen, police weapons generally look twice as beat up as military weapons, you all train regulary at the range with them, so they are subject to a lot of wear and tear that most weapons don't see. And I do not looking down the barrel of a loaded gun under the most beneign circumstances. As for the black uniforms, they are sexy but are too military looking for my taste. And cops are not the Army, they are the local law enforcement agency with public relations to deal with. Also black is hot as hell in the summertime. I think the grey is a nice compromise with blue or the black, they are cooler than both, the grey gives you better concealment than the blue, but not as much as the black. I say leave the uniform devision in the greys and leave the blacks for SWAT and a new Black Cats task force

Anonymous said...

Can't we stop it with the new uniform requests, first of all they are free, second I would much rather have a raise, new cars, new weapons, not some stupid new uniform simply because you don't like the color. Get real... Have you not noticed the state of the economy.

I noticed that CENTER HIT TEAM was at it again today...way to go boys, making the Major proud!!Now we just need a Sgt to help run it...hmmm...I think Sgt Ferriero is back on the road.

Yea I agee, Unifoems are way down the line but who the hell thought of gray shirts anyway? Anybody know?

Anonymous said...

Detectives............ummmmm, I don't think they were on the traffic stop, or any other SPECIAL units, but anyway. Alot of good comments, the Sgt's on center EW get the job except 1 or 2. Campbell, Hambie, and Richie, good F'n job bottom line! Just on a side note to these rookies with these 2800 badge numbers, get rid of the attitudes. You haven't been long enough to be telling anyone what your NOT doing!

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah PatsQB, what's up dude! Come back man EW is missing you!

Anonymous said...

Uniforms will be less expensive and it will help motivate the troops.
Why are you worrying about weather you are in you air condition offices calling the shots.black or blue. You guys are soft

Anonymous said...

I had no idea the case was solved at the traffic stop! So uniform got them to confess and gathered all of the evidence that tied them to all of the charges they are facing? Guys, this was a team effort. Stop trying to be glory hogs.

Anonymous said...

What is the HIT team? Is it a specialized unit at center or something?

jc mellencamp said...

Let's clean them streets Obrien let the dawgs loose.lts do a 90 blitz to show the BOC and the CEO we need take home cars, upgraded radio systems ae well as a cross the board raise we can bring in the stats

bono said...

Yeah let's do a 90 day no none sense, corner clearing, but kicking anti crime detail. Take volunteers we need officers who want to make a difference

Anonymous said...

DCPD will never have a take home car policy enacted. Stop kidding yourselves PEOPLE!! Can any of you fathom what the initial start up cost would be to purchase a fleet of cars for this agency? We can't even get the tasers issued to every officer that were awarded back to us 8 mos ago!!! Forget the take home cars. It will NEVER happen. We all should have applied at Gwinnett. Now there's a stable LE Agency. DCPD could learn something from them. I bet they are LTAO at us and its embarrassing. Send in the clowns for God's sake.............

Anonymous said...

Whoever this last poster is: I suspect you do not nor have you ever worked for the DeKalb County Police Department, as those in the know refer to US as "DKPD."

If you want to post, go for it, but don't pretend to be one of us...

Anonymous said...

That's right its DKPD you moron!!! DKPD has its problems but by far we are still the best this side of the mississippi.

That's why we need dark blue or black uniforms and a new slogan

Anonymous said...

Gwinnett, Cobb, and whoever else can laugh at us as much as they want. We have our problems, but we still show up to work in one of the toughest places in metro Atlanta. Despite all the problems, there are still a few of us who are proud to be DeKalb officers and to wear the badge and uniform (no matter what color it is...I prefer dark blue).

ole school said...

I know we are the best department in the south.yes we have some issues that must be addressed however like any family there is in fighting but if you mess with my family its a done deal. DKPD does not play.DKPD never said that we were the baddest in country, but we can show you where we J1 them!!!!

Oh yeah if you have a 2600, 2700 or 2800 badge number loose the attitude you need to pay your dues first.

david cassidy said...

New chief, new uniforms, new mission statement,
New idea's,new equipment, new vision and attitude.

Why uniforms because that will change the mindset and image.we are putting the past behind us and reaching forward. Everyone from the military, sports teams and busineses have revamped their uniforms and image to show they are moving towards a new and fresh start.

What's up with the

unprofessional rookies? FTO'S lock them on.they have bad attitudes already or is it the Fto's?

tony robbins said...

Oh yeah Chief Obrien is my pick. His personality will get us resources to do our job and he will help morale.however we must have balance and fair playing field.

We are one. Not white, hispanic
,asian or black. We are DKPD BLUE.

It time to lead the way in the south. No more perps fighting officers.no more selling drugs on our streets. No more perps violating our communties.

If we are going to be successful we must be professional, stop the in-fighting,train these rookies right, take pride in our department, take in ourselves. Back officer no matter who they are or what unit they are in. "Go hard or go home" no need for slackers or bad attitudes.

Go DKPK go
