Interesting.....did anyone else notice that O'Brien's title was missing the "Acting" moniker?

I wonder if this official press release just spilled the beans.

Wiz Miller is a top notch officer and fine human being. He will bring common sense and fair play to the job of Director, both of which are sorely needed. Give him a chance before criticizing him. Most "old timers" are familiar with WZ and respect him. He has been in the trenches and proven himself in the field. With any luck we can keep O'Brian as Chief and DKPD can once again excel as the best police department in the nation.

Im cautiously optimistic.

The troops need to be informed and motivated!

I don't disagree that Wiz Miller is a good choice but does no one care that the money was found savings from PD??? The CEO could have taken the money out of his budget but he's taken it from a department tat is understaffed, under armed and waits an hour at shift change for a car. Get your priorities in order Mr. CEO.

Sorry #2 blogger I am an old timer and the appointment of Wiz or anybody to public safety director is just a weak cop out by the spinless ELlis. He can't handle authority figures so he goes an appoints one of his buddies to do it for him. What a waste of taxpayer money and waste of what could be used to buy us equipment, and get us on the road to some raises. Wiz is another one of those good ole boys and he will take us right back to the days of it "is all about me and my buddies" again. Just like the Burgess good ole boy days. Wait and see if he doesn't start putting his boys from his days in Narcotics in high ranking position, even though they don't deserve it or are not competent enough to handle the job. There really is not a light at the end of the tunnel, simply because there is no end to this Bullshit tunnel.

I say let's give the "Wiz" a chance. Gawd! What a terrible nicname, and if he doesn't perform I predict this blog will hammer him unmercifully on his nic! I met Chief O'Brien recently and was impressed! I told him I him I had read a lot of good things about him and he made some quip about it. I asked Charlotte his secretary about his status as acting chief, and her reply was "We hope", so he is still acting chief as of today. I liked his aide also. In one month the mood around West Exchange has improved dramatically, everyone seems a little more "pleasant" and less stressed out. Keep it up guys!

"Wiz"...my understanding is that he got the nickname because he was "smarter than the average bear" and it showed. He was a Wiz Kid, so to speak.

Miller went through the ranks like a rocket. No real substance but I hope he does the right things to pull the PD through.

there are always some haters no matter where you go or what you do. I can name several officers who went through the ranks fast. That does not mean that they dont have any substance. Say whats really on you mind. Dont hold back with just that comment. Thats why people always make their haters their motivators. Stop the hating, it's bad for ur health. Do O'Brien not have substance, what about Craddrock, Capt Harris, Higgdon. Come on all of these officers are smart and seems to know more than you. They all test well and have departmental knowledge. Blogger#5 I bet u didnt complain when BB was in office, did you. Like anything else stop your dam crying. I am a old timer and we use to say. If you dont like it, then just leave. People cant stand people who just complain about everything.

Clearly some of you Anonymous boggers don't understand the budget process. The CEO found the money in the police department budgeted salary sulpus which in all liklyhood came from vacant funded positions like the recently vacanted Deputy Chief positions.

Positions we don't need so he just reallocated the money so the budget don't go up with this change in the organization chart. We all know of the sulpus of high ranking officers that need to be reduced anyway, and the CEO has the authority to spend the money approved in his budget anyway he sees fit once the budget is approve by the BOC.You can't use salary saving on raises because it is simply not enough to fund continualy a merit increase for all of us in the current budget allocation.

I wise man once said "a fool will open his month and say anything, a wise man would not say anything unless he has something to say.

Why is there no mention of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) which can be found on PoliceGrantsHelp.com? It shows that DeKalb is eligible for $2.4M in funds. This is a good start for "Take Home Vehicles" or better equipment, supplies, training, etc.

Well we can clearly see who the fool is on that bloggers comments. Ellis could have used that founded money to give back the officers positions that were taken by thug Bolton to make all them command positions. The money could be used for more equipment for sure....So we now know for sure that we have Ellis on line and blogging.

WZ (which are his initials, this is where the nickname came from folks) is one of the most fair, intelligent, personable and gutsy men I have ever met. He always has a smile on his face and a good thing to tell you. At East Precinct M-watch, he used to come to roll call and bring us hot wings to eat before we went on the road. Out of his own pocket, at least once a week. When is the last time your supervisor did that for you? It shows a sincere caring for his officers, and he would sit and eat with us, as a Lt. This was team building at its finest, which is why people who really know him respect him so much. By the way, everyone who is complaining about his so called "Narcotics buddies" that you think will be promoted..every single one of them is more qualified and respected than any of the jackasses in command now. Look at their resumes. And none of them has ever been criticized about not sticking up for their officers. So I have no problem with them being promoted. Some folks will be haters no matter who gets promoted. If Jesus Christ became Chief, there would still be people complaining. I'm with Abe Lincoln; "You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time."
