I am a "cold-warrior" vet and luckily was not involved in combat thank Christ. I would of been stationed on a carrier and was one of the few who realized that the Soviets would of sunk half of our carriers in a shooting war. The survivors would of kicked ass and I am damn glad it never happened.
My next door neighbor passed away several years ago. He was a navigator on a B-24 during WWII. I think of him on days like this, If you don't know, flying and surviving a B-24 mission in WWII was not a pleasant operation. My hats off to Mr. Borg and the countless others who have given their all and died protecting us and the world. Rest well my friends....

My Grandfather was in the battle of Guadalcanal. He didn't die there, thank goodness, but one of his brothers died storming the beaches of Normandy.

My family lost one this past year, fighting in Iraq. I am sad for his sacrifice, but grateful that the many others in my family in the service have been kept safe through multiple deployments.

Eternal rest grant unto those who have gone before us.

Thank you for the post.

My next door neighbor Mr. Ernest Britt Jackson passed away this past Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 88 years old. During WWII he was in the 8th Air Force and was shot down over Germany in 1944 and was a POW in Stalag XVII B for 15 months and was liberated by General Patton and returned home in 1945. Thank you all that have died and lived protecting the United States of America and thank you Mr. Jackson.

My father and his oldest brother served in WW II. They were in the navy and were on ships that escorted the merchant vessels across the Atlantic. Their cousin was a soldier in WW II and KIA but I don't know where. My grandmothers brother was KIA in WWI and is buried in France. My brother and I were both in the Army during Viet Nam. Memorial Day is to remember those that gave there lives in the service of our country. May God be with them all. We respect their sacrifice. We have freedom because of those that gave all.
