District Attorney Brings In Special Investigator

D.A. Gwen Fleming has added to her staff, Clay Nix, formerly of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations. Investigator Nix’s primary responsibility is to investigate public corruption.

His lead off case is the one involving Officers Wright and Route, the two officers accused of running a criminal background check on President Obama.

If we were allowed to ask one question of Ms. Fleming it would be: Are you serious?

These two officers did a bone headed thing by running a background check of Obama. They probably did it being curious, just to see if his drivers license would read 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, his birth date, or whatever. But it is highly doubtful they did so with any criminal intent.

These two officers have been on paid administrative leave for nearly two months now. It’s time to move forward and end the administrative investigation with heavy suspension from duty without pay. But to have them investigated by the D.A.’s office; isn’t that a little much?

Where was the special investigator when one of Vernon’s cronies was caught running tag information for political reasons? Where was this special investigator when another one of Vernon’s cronies was caught running tags during an adulteress marriage gone bad? Or the detective using N.C.I.C./G.C.I.C. information so she could send threatening letters through the U.S. mail during another extramarital affair?

And finally, where is this special investigator when it comes to terminated Chief Terrell Bolton? The District Attorney herself said Bolton’s actions were probably criminal, but would not pursue it.

Gwen Fleming is proving once again; if you are “connected” you don’t have much to worry about. But if you are some lowly beat officer who does a good job day in and day out, but is caught doing school boy pranks, then Gwen Fleming will bring in a special investigator and nail your ass to the wall.

The madness continues

I agree 100%. These are two young officers who did a dumb thing. Young officers sometimes do dumb things but to call this criminal is ridiculous. There is PLENTY of crime in DeKalb County but believe me, this is not it! If the D.A. attempts to prosecute these two officers for this silly act, I will turn totally against her and work hard to see that she is not reelected. The CEO should step in and put these officers back to work. Give them a week suspension for their conduct and put them back them back on the street!

2cents from a citizen:
Anyone who doesn't agree 100% is either ignorant or corrupt. Personally, I've already seen enough, and am not inclined to wait for her next irresponsible act. Gwen, I will not only campaign for your opponent, I would vote for a donkey if it means getting rid of you.

Maybe these two and the officer in Philly can get a pardon from the President and an invitation to the next beer summit.

Just goes to show how weak and easily intimated Fleming was by Vernon.

Now she feels the need to flex.

I thought Nix had been at the DA's office for a while??? Not sure though.

Have to agree with the other posters on this one. Let's see; 20 million overpaid in contracts under questionable circumstances, former CEO Jones using different cost centers for phones and who knows what else, MILLIONS missing from Recorders Court and all we care about is two officers running the president on a computer? Seriously???

I wish the D.A.'s office would investigate the real criminals. Look at the gang in city of Clarkston. They keep getting bonds and probation and and continued to commit burglaries-steal cars and rob people. Face it we have a D. A. like Clayton County did before they saw the real truth.

It was not a BACKGROUND CHECK , they simply ran his name on N.C.I.C.The only thing they got back was driver license check and to see if he was WANTED.

I would want to know if the PRESIDENT was wanted or had a suspended driver license.

They run our driver license and tag every month to see if we are current on everything.

Is this anything different ,the President should check out OK.

Someone needs to get a grip,I hope the media picks up on the investigation. Let the D.A. explain why these two and not all the others.

The anonymous poster who thinks running 27's and 29's on the President just out of curiosity is just as stupid as the officers who did it! People like YOU are the reason we have to sit through that stupid NCIC/GCIC re-certification class every 2 years. Apparently every 2 years isn't frequently enough for you to remember that running people out of curiosity is illegal!

Hey.....Willie D.....don't think for one minute you have been forgotten about

We all know this was a harmless, stupid mistake to run Obama through the system, I do stupid stuff too, but the mistakes I make are generally low profile, and recoverable. Running the POTUS through NCIC is high profile; the secret service is dead serious about protecting the Prez, Hence the invistagation by the DA. I doubt Gwen came up with this "special investigator" on her own, she is too timid for that. My guess is that the SS or GBI dropped a hint to Gwen that an investigation was in order, and she complied.
This investigation just begs the media to ask some pretty obvious questions to the D.A. as to why there was no investigation of Don Frank or good ole' Vern over running Dale Russell and others through NCIC and the motavation behind the checks.
If the DA chooses to prosecute the officers, I would imagine the defense lawyers will be asking the same questions of unequal application of the law.
To DeKalb citizens, you have consistantly voted in your leaders based upon color and party.
Jay Bookman did a fine job as an appointed D.A., but he was white and Republican, it was common knowledge that Gwen was a poor soliticitor but you voted her in, just like you voted in Sheriff Dorsey and CEO Vernon Jones (twice). Start voting for who is best qualified for the job instead of race and fracken' politics.
It appears we lucked out with CEO Ellis, he is serious about fixing the county, but he hasn't come to grips with any of the problems except for Public Safety.
On the lighter side, I was trying to come up with a "clean" accronym for the D.A. Dis-functional Airhead was the best I could do.

I mispelled Jay's last name in my previous post. Doh!

Running the Pres is no more and no less illegal than running your ex-wife's new boy toy, or you running that hot blond you saw next to you at the red light. That leas to the question, "Why are some people prosecuted while others are not?" Sounds like these officers already have a great defense: it's common practice at DKPD and no one cares!

Yup, LoFlyer, I think you meant Jeff Brickman.

I have a feeling Jay Bookman at the AJC would be seriously offended to know you called him a Republican! :)

Anon17 you are right! Bookman and Brinkman should wallop me for that one. It was not a fruedian slip either. Y'all know my politics by now, and my opinion of the AJC and Bookman is not fit for print. I understand Bookman is a pretty decent guy, and I agree with his opinions 15 to 20 percent of the time. Especially on water issues in the metro area. Speaking of which, what the hell is DeKalb going to do in minus three years when the federal court ruling goes into effect placing Chattahoochie water withdraw levels back to the 70's level. I understand the new 96 inch feed pipe to the raw water intake is on hold due to a lack of funding. The "Hooch" is DeKalb's only water source. It would be foolish not to start to planning and building an alternate source of water for DeKalb, like RIGHT NOW! It will take at least five years to build the facilties, snd my guess is that it won't happen. Metro Atlanta is betting the federal courts or Alabama and Florida will back off on the issue. History has shown otherwise, the issue is not really about water, but metro Atlanta's unrestrained development and Alabama and Florida are trying to cash in by redirecting Atlanta's growth to them. I can understand Alabama's position, but Florida has enough industry and tourism to easily support itself. Will the feds actually go through with this devestating court order? Probably, and DeKalb should prepare for it.

Another Dekalb discipline fiasco in the making. Get it the hell over with. 30 day suspension and screening for 6 months. That will cure those guy's of everything.Either that or promote them like the 'ole asst chief was for the same damn thing.
