Dunwoody, please sit down and shut up. This "ME TOO" attitude is getting out of hand. What in the hell do you need a SWAT Team for? Use DKPD's and be done with. Granted DKPD has some issues, hell what agency doesnt but in times where a SWAT is needed, let the big boys handle it. Just go back to writing your traffic tickets and leave real police work to the professionals. I would hate to see you in the midst of heavy ligitation to do your Keystone Cops in their half backed attempt of police work.

Dont knock dunwoody i work next to them and the ones ive met are good officers. If they want a swat team who cares. They havent bought stupid things like our dumb leaders have like the MAGIC buses. Eventually their gonna break away and have their our dispatchers because it seems that ours ...for some reason dont like them. They constantly 10-9 them and are embarassingly unprofessional on the radio. Lets face it vernon screwed us all by ignoring dunwoody and purposely not giving north precinct any officers for a long time. The citizens were smart and incorporated.

I for one am glad Dumbwoody is gone, all they ever did was WHINE about everything. They should use our Swat, best in the country. Clearly they don;t even know what they are talking about, Kaplan knows zilch about task force officers. Oh, well, not our duty to tell them, they are all grown up now and out of the house...good luck, Chief Grogan, you are sure gonna need it with those whiny liberals!!!

Some of those posts on the other blog complaining about narcotics investigators and task forces are just ridiculous. Dunwoody would benefit greatly benefit from allowing a Dunwoody Office be on any task force. The complaints about misconduct are just pathetic. Misconduct in a drug unit is the exception, not the norm. You would be justified in saying you want to keep you kids home from school because you are worried about them having sex with the teacher than saying Dunwoody PD shouldn't be a part of a task force because of the potential for misconduct. Student-Teacher sex is far more common than drug unit misconduct. But hey, why should facts, reason, and common sense get involved.

Oh, and one other thing...I'm sick and tired of hearing people who think they know what they are talking about throwing around the term, "community oriented policing." It seems every idiot and politician who wants to sound like they know what they are talking about will toss out the sound byte, "community oriented policing." Knock it off and offer up some DETAILS on how you want to improve the department! Don't rely on "buzz words" or "catch phrases."

Anonymous #1 - what a jerk. Sorry, but can't let you lay that impression down without a comment. DP officers have amazing credentials. I have personally spoken with many of them, and they are exceptional people and highly skilled. I'm not saying I agree with having a SWAT, but your Keystone Cops remark is WAY out of line, and clearly generated from a personal grudge.
As for the rest of you, glad to know how you feel about Dunwoody. Maybe that explains how difficult it was to get police attention??
P.S. Take a look at DP's record - you might want to do that cuz you're on the verge of sounding a little jealous.

Traffic tickets?? You're funny honey! But just in case you're really serious, you might want to take a look at their list of felony arrests. Even YOU might be impressed!
Have a nice day.

Hey...anonymous #1, You need to get over the fact that Dunwoody didn't hire your sorry ass. If you listen to the north radio instead of sulking about not getting the job you might see that we get along great with Dunwoody officers and they happen to be very professional and hardworking. We need to take some notes on the work that their doing. I agree they may not need a SWAT team but can you blame them from wanting nothing to do with anything Dekalb! If you hate your job so much then quit but don't knock brother officers for doing what needs to be done.

ANONYMOUS #1 AKA KEN KURRY. I THINK THAT YOUR JEALOUS THAT DUNWOODY AND SANDY SPRINGS DIDNT HIRE YOU. PLEASE DONT SPEAK NEGATIVE OF DUNWOODY P.D. GOOD THINGS ARE BEING DONE HERE FOR THE DUNWOODY CITIZENS THAT DEKALB DIDNT HAVE THE RESOURCES FOR.

I don't "feel" anything about Dunwoody, that's the point. If you put me in Lithonia, Decatur, Ellenwood, Clarkston, etc, I do my job, regardless. The people of Dunwoody had this bizarre victim complex that somehow made them think the line officers of DeKalb County didn't care about their community.

Yes, Vernon and the folks in Decatur had issues with Dunwoody and it's citizens. However, DKPD officers served the citizens of Dunwoody for 90 years without complaint! I know officers that loved working in Dunwoody.

Residents of Dunwoody-GET OVER YOURSELVES! You are in the heart of metro Atlanta. Just because you live in a nice community doesn't mean you can stick your collective head in the sand and ignore the realities of the modern age. Drugs are out there (even in Dunwoody) and the day something breaks bad is the day you will wish you had a SWAT team.

Lord have Mercy!!!!!
To the Officers and Civilians at NORTH PRECINCT:
My communities' experience with all of you was never anything but the best, and I do mean that sincerely. When there were times we couldn't get the response we needed, please believe that we KNOW it wasn't your fault!!! I believe you did everything within your power to take care of our needs - you were unfortunately limited by manpower and other policies and practices beyond your control.
Peace, brothers and sisters, and may God be with you on the mean streets of Dekalb County.

The original advocates for a city consistently pushed the idea that DKPD was incompetant and purposefully ignored Dunwoody in order to win the vote. This attitude took hold with the citizens(check out the discussion board on the city's web site or Heneghan Dunwoody Blog). The Dunwoody Crier recently quoted one of their officers basicly stating the citizens were happy with DPD because DKPD would only occasionally show up and handle a call. Now with DPD up and running and with double the patrol than DKPD provided, as they so often mention, they have discovered they can't do the job without their own SWAT. Please...Dunwoody gave up what I still believe is the best trained PD in Georgia and still one of the best agencies in the southeast for a group of guys on their second or third department. We already have to pick up the slack for every other agency in this county and the last thing we need is to have to clean up after a SWAT team made up of basic mandate academy graduates.

I have nothing against Dunwoody P.D. but that agency needs a SWAT Team like we all need a bad case of the Swine Flu. The DeKalb County P.D. SWAT Team has the same number of officers as the entire Dunwoody Police Department. Does that put it in perspective for you?

On a wider note, operating a modern police department in the U.S. is very expensive these days. It will only become more expensive in the future for Dunwoody. They should have thought about that before they decided to form their own little village.

Again, I have nothing against Dunwoody or their police department but they should not act as though they will never need DeKalb County P.D. for anything. That would be crazy and incredibly arrogant. I do think DeKalb P.D. should assist Dunwoody if they ask and we should all be professional toward each other as much as possible.

As a former Dekalb officer and a current SSPD officer I can tell you this there is no better SWAT team than the Dekalb SWAT, period. Now the regional that WILL be made up of mosty Sandy Springs guys will do a great job to meet the needs of Dunwoody. SSPD SWAT is made up of experienced and professional former Fulton Co SWAT guys. They have years of experience and untold amount of call outs under their belts. Either way if you have an active shooter at the mall you are going to need some long guns and bunkers.

As a proud liberal, I resent the fact that you lump me in with Dunwoody. That area has the highest concentration of conservatives in the whole county. Ugh!

dunwoody will be forming up with johns creek and sandy springs pd, to form a north metro swat team. The citys all coming together gives us more money to play with and more grants. Lets be honest these are new cities and new politicians, why would you want another jurisdiction in your city. Its not a matter of whos swat team is superior comes. The small departments are made of verteran officers and veteran swat officers. They will have a faster response time also since a lot of swat officers live in the city and all have take home cars unlike dkpd. but the answer is no dunwoody will not have there own swat team. three cities together forming one team.

I foresee trouble with a three city SWAT team. Management disputes and egos will get in the way from the team being top notch. They could have the best officers in the state on that team. But one department's chain of command is going to think they train too much. The other is going to think they don't train enough. One is going to think things should be done one way. The others will want it done their way.

Every department has their own policies, their own ideas of how things she be done, and their own brass with their own egos. What might work in Dunwoody might not work in Sandy Springs.

Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Roswell, and Milton all have a joint SWAT team.
Dekalb is NOT the best SWAT team in the country as some have claimed, they sent 2 officers to Sniper school last year and both failed...they actually got lost in the woods during land nav.
