The TASER is a better tool. I was in the class and we saw the Stinger. It is crap. The Stinger company is just mad because they make a P.O.S. that nobody wants. No scandal here...the County actually got the best thing first. BIG SURPRISE!!! Seriously, TASER Int'l has the best device and support system. It is hard to compete with that and Stinger just can't cope. Maybe we need to send an ICP unit to hug and consloe them in their time of grief.

I agree, I really didn't see the controversy behind this. Tasers assist police and jail officials to do their jobs without the use of their guns. What is the problem? If I were living in Dekalb, I would want to make sure the officers had the best equipment to serve and protect all (not the select few--lets not forget the one officer on here calling the citizens pieces of trash). While at the same time, ensuring the county did their homework before spending tax dollars.

"The money comes from seized assets from narcotics and fraud investigations, DeKalb Officer Jason Gagnon said."

I thought we couldn't use the drug money on something like Tasers or In-car Cameras!

Did Bolton lie to us? Did Vernon hang us out in the wind?

The Academy trainers need to post the Stinger Video on Youtube!

Let the video speak for itself.

Did you really ask that question

they thought the only thing to use Drug money on was the tour buses and all those cars they needed

You can use seized funds for unusual, non budget items. In example, you cannot use seized funds to buy more line units for officers to drive, because that is an item that it always included in the budget. That's why it was used for tasers, they are a non budget item. Magic buses also were a non budget item (unusual but colorful, I'd say). The rule of thumb is; if it is an unusual item that it not included in the budget, seized funds can be used. Can't buy guns with it (budget item). You can't pay salaries or give raises with seized funds either. Just so everyone knows. By the way, all this information is in your updated GA law book, which I'm sure not many people read anymore, but I do!!!

Sign me up for the Taser!

And to the whinny Stinger salesman: take your 2 darts and your 9 volt battery back to your boss and tell him they suck!

Great story. Compelling, and rich.

Our professionalism has hit rock bottom. I go to taser training and officers are allowed to video people with their cell phones as they are being tasered, and civilian employees from training are allowed to stand there and watch and laugh at people being tasered. What a freaking joke this place has become. This is supposed to be serious training, not a damn circus. God help us!

Take a pill, Burgundy.

It is serious training. There is nothing wrong with people wanting to record themselves getting zapped. All of those recordings actually help law enforcement. We get zapped. We can take it. We get zapped. We don't die!

Perps geeked up on coke or meth die from just fighting with the police. If they got pepper sprayed, it was the pepper spray that killed them, according to the whinny family members. If they got tazed, it was the tazer that killed them, according to the whinny family members. The reality is, the perps would have died no matter what level of force was used on them. What killed them was their own condition and choices.

The more recordings we have of how harmless tazers are, the better.

I agree with the poster; it is a joke to allow civilians to watch the taser training just so they can laugh. If you are not part of the training then leave the damn room!! Then again, what do you expect from this place?

It's ashame you big babies cry cause someone is watching you be tazed. Did you ever think that individuals watch to understand the concept of tazers. It's really ashame of the way you big bad officers act. It you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen.

Good Lord!! Such cry babies here! When I was a PO I, a MPO told me this, "These whiners will always find something to complain about"
This proves the case. We have asked for Tasers for years. Good people looking out for us fought to get them in our hands, where they need to be, not just on a supervisor's belt, and we find something to cry about! GROW UP! It's not like they took you up to Stonecrest and tazzed you in the food court at lunch. When we use the taser, people will see the perp get tazzed. How about this, for once why don't we just grow up, stop searching for something to complain about and be thankful for the improvements people are trying to make around here?

Just so you know, I lean really conservative. And I have not yet been to the taser certification class.

Can we not laugh at ourselves? Why take offense at others laughing at you? I don't find that it is any less professional. The first day of taser training was covered by the media and then broadcast that night for all people to see who receive their broadcasts.

So, apparently there are civilians being permitted to view the training. So what. It just creates more witnesses in our favor should we ever have to use the taser on criminals. These people will back us up and say I saw hundreds of officers get tased and then get back up on their feet.

Laughing is good. Come on, Burgundy, lighten up. Would you rather be crying because someone actually dies from being tased? Bottom line, I haven't been through it yet but from reading these posts I have no problem with it. I'm prepared to be laughed at. I will laugh with you! That is, of course, once I am done screaming....hahaha

It sounds like to me this department has a whole lot of growing up to do. Everyone in the room is laughing except the person getting tazed. Get over yourself. The media was there and everyone who watched there news saw how the officer getting tazed and saw how the instance of pain one receives and you want to complain because a civilan saw you. You probably need to change professions because there are going to be alot of people out there that is going to laugh at you, what are you going to do then? Run to Mama and tattletale.
