Judge Kaplan and I worked together for almost 30 years. His influence and impact on my life as well as my family is immeasurable.
I visited him at hospice yesterday 12/27/09 and it breaks my heart to see this dynamic individual so weak and barely responsive. I took him an angel as a reminder to him and his family that the angels are watching over them all during this difficult time.
Keep them all in your prayers.

Julie,
I don't know Judge Kaplan, but he sounds like a man who made the most of his life and impacted the lives of those around him.
From the movie "Saving Private Ryan".... just swap the names and I'm sure these lines would be appropriate for the Judge.
Old James Ryan: Tell me I have led a good life.
Ryan's Wife: What?
Old James Ryan: Tell me I'm a good man.
Ryan's Wife: You *are*.
Our prayers are with him and his family.
I had several occasions to come in contact with Judge Kaplan over the years. He is one heck of a guy. A man's man. He led and still leads a good life. Sorry to hear of his condition. Don't know what else to say but I don't use the word hero much but the 'ole judge is a hero in many respects for sure.
I believe he consider all police officers part of his family.
The officers who knew him will never forget Judge Kaplan.
Friends, It is with great sadness that I received the information that Judge Kaplan "Rescue 10" died this morning. There will be a graveside service at 3:00 pm on Sunday at Arlington National Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road. Keep his family in your prayers.
