You have got to be kidding me right. He says I did get off the truck but didn't see or smell anything. How about walking your FA up the drive way and knocking on the door. But lets not forget about the Dunnwoody Police Department either. Did they not also play a roll in this incident ? How many of them have been fired, and will Mrs. Keys include them in her criminal investigation?

Dekalb using scapegoats we should be getting close to the scaegoat capital of the world by now

A working smoke detector could have been heard throughout the neighborhood at 1 AM.
There is no reason why the communcations personnel should not have voiced their concerns directly to the responding units while they were in the area.
Defamation of character sounds like an apllicable legal term in this case.
These guys should exhaust all appeals and then go for the gold.

I can't count how many times dispatchers have left out key information that could have gotten me killed.

I think some ride-a-longs are in order... 'cause they just don't get it.

I want to say this....it's was an unfortunate what happaned to that lady in the house fire...but those fireman need to man up and take responsibility that they did not follow protocol, It does not matter if the units were told that a female was inside the house, you respond the same way to all all fires, quit trying to pass the blame, since when units dont try to make contact, no one said it was poss a prank call and no address was given, it was told to the units several times that the fm called from inside the house and dispatch tried to call her back several times and she did not ansser the phone...if that was the only house on the street, why did you knock on the door to make sure that was not the house.....The fire department screwed up big time, dont blame the dispaatchers, since when has dispatch ever dispatched a call stating respond to a house fire, fm inside crying and upset get there now!!! c-mon, this fool said had dispatch conveyed the urgency of what she said.....tell me how would that have made them respond any differently?..would that have prompted them to go knock on the door...no just face it they did not follow protocol!!!! this one you can not put on disptach it was been investigated and everyone in dispatch has been cleared of any errors...how about this...get the traffic from the units to radio on what was auctually said? play that traffic on the news and hear how many time radio gave them the address and how about this...the medic that sits in radio called one of the chiefs and told him that something was with the fire and he said, "he was doing time sheets they are fireman they know what they are doing" and the call was recorded.....so now what what you have to say about that...pure neglect of duty!!!!!!

In reference to dispatchers leaving out key information on calls....The dispatchers can only get what the complaintant is giving, it's like pulling teeth trying to get vital info from the citizens, you talk about a ride along, how about come and sit and radio and see what all what those girls do, how may screens they have to look at just to put you out on a traffic stop or a call for that matter and listen to 10 other units neededing her to do something, and everyone of the units are priority, so try doing the dispatchers job before you pont fingers!!!

While I agree that it still seems like more could have been done, I thought it sounded like a fairly rash decision to fire them all probably without full information.

I would have thought there would be a progression of disciplinary actions before someone is fired. Also, the initial news reports made it sound like the response team pulled up, saw nothing and then left, when later reports are that they did a lot more than that (even if clearly not enough).

I don't like pointing fingers either.
I don't recall ever refering to fire procedure as "protocol".
Is that something new? It use to be an EMS term. In the fire service we had "S. O. P s" and they were considered "guidelines" and not strict orders that tied the hands of the officer in charge.
The incident command system has always had its flaws and no firing should stand on not strictly following the "guidelines".

EMS "protocol" is different, more of a strict procedure that must be followed.

Do you really need anything more than an address?? Cops answer 911 hang up calls all of the time. That means we know nothing at all about what is going on at that location. Domestic inside? Robbery out front? Assault? Person dying? Fire? It doesn't matter! You check the address given to you! Even if the house doesn't have numbers on it, chances are at least some of the neighbors do! Are the numbers going up or down as you drive along the street? Is it that hard to figure out which house you are supposed to be checking?

Trust me by all means I dont agree w/firing those guys, everyone need a job, esp if that was your only means of support for your family, but I do think they should have been reprimanded strongly, now considering, they were told several times that the fm called from inside the house, they just messed up bottom line, had they knocked on the door....that poor lady would probably still be here today!!!!! Very Unfortunate.... I am so appalled by the dekalb fireman that respond

once again how about dispatcher turn into the call taker once the call is assigned no more of this stand bye BS while I check with the call taker I hate to tell you once again your job maybe tough but you will not lose your life if important info isn't given or asked for in time. but we will. you sit in a climate controlled office get over yourselves

The dispatcher could have easily given the responding units more information, the same way they do on many other calls.

XXXXX Units respond to a house fire with possible entrapment at XXXXX

All they had to add were the words "possible entrapment". The calltaker and dispatcher knew it was likely that she did not make it out, especially since the line disconnected.

I'm certainly not saying the dispatchers are totally at fault, but they are not completely innocent here either.

I have had more than my fair share of incidents where dispatchers dropped the ball or left out critical information. Maybe the dispatchers didn't give the firefighters all of the available information in this case, but it doesn't matter. The fact remains, the firefighters had an address to respond to. They were too lazy and/or incompetent to find that house and knock on the door to see if everything was ok. It doesn't matter if they were told someone may be trapped or not! Use your f-ing head! Someone called 911 for help and gave their address. The very LEAST you can do is arrive on scene and knock on the door! You don't need any details other than the address to do that! The firefighters didn't even do that though! I don't know what bothers me more? The fact that we have lazy, incompetent firefighters who can't fin a house and get off their truck to make sure everything is ok, or that we have idiots defending them and blaming radio for not giving them enough information!

If a cop got dispatched to a silent hold up alarm at a bank and just drove by, then went over the air and said, "Everything looked fine when I drove by, I didn't see any robbers. I'm 10-8, 10-63." he'd be looking for a new job right now too.

The bottom line is, the firefighters were given an address. They couldn't find it, which is pathetic, and someone died because of it.

TO THE BHH RETIRED FIREFIGHTER (STAY YOUR @#$ RETIRED) CLEARLY YOUR ARE NOT CLEAR ON THE CLUSTER *^&& THAT FOSTER CREATED DURING HIS TIME W/ DEKALB. WE HAVE NEVER DISPATCHED A CALL RESPOND TO A PERSON DOWN CPR IN PROGRESS,FAMILY MEMBERS SCREAMING,CURSING US OUT,KEEPS GIVING EVERY FAMILY MEMBER THE PHONE WHILE CALLTAKER IS TRYING TO ATTEMPT TO SAVE THE FAMILY MEMBERS LIFE!!! THEY WERE DISPATCHED TO A HOUSE FIRE..THEY DID NOT DO DUE DILIGENCE IN TRYING TO LOC THE HOUSE OR THE CALLER,IT IS ONLY A COUPLE OF HOUSES ON THAT STREET,WHY DIDNT THEY KNOCK ON EVERY DOOR?INQUIRE ABOUT THE ADDRESS,I WOULD RATHER YOU WAKE EVERYONE UP W/THE CHANCE OF GETTING CUSSED OUT THEN TO SAY NOTHING SMELLED,NO SIGN OF SMOKE OR FLAMES. WELL BE BACK IN SERVICE,9 TIMES OUT OF 10 SOMEONE WOULD HAV TOLD THEM THE HOUSE IS "RIGHT THERE" WALK UP THE DRIVE WAY AND THEY WOULD HAVE FOUND THE LOCATION.THE TRAGEDY THAT HAPPENED SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED BOTTOM LINE!!!STOP TRYING TO PUT THE BLAME ON DISPATCHERS,THEY WERE CLEARED!! THEY DID THEIR JOB WHICH IS TO "RELAY" INFO TO RESPONDING UNITS,WHAT U DO OR DON'T DO W/ THE INFO IS ON YOU!!!!
