Breaking News: DeKalb Fire Chief Resigns

DeKalb Fire Rescue Chief David Foster resigned Monday, DeKalb County authorities said.

No reason was given.

Foster was Gwinnett County’s assistant fire and emergency services chief for four years before taking the helm in DeKalb on Jan. 2, 2003, after a nationwide search.

Four DeKalb firefighters were fired Friday after an investigation into their response to a Jan. 24 fatal fire.

The internal investigation determined that, after a 1 a.m. call for fire from a Dunwoody home, the firefighters responded, but didn't get out of their vehicles when they arrived at the scene and didn't see evidence of a fire.

CEO Ellis has named Deputy Chief Eddie O’Brien (Acting Police Chief Bill O'Brien's brother) as Acting Chief.

Change is good sometimes,The O'Brien's Thats cute. ok now let's get down to business. If you all go to a 5 day work week the morale of the department will go down so much.

Director Miller, the officer's are making arrest and writting alot of tickets, we are doing our job. If you let this madness go on with the 5 day work week, it will destroy the high morale that we have.

We are going a positive direction we can't stop now.

Well this ought to make a good story for the AJC. Two brothers as chiefs of their respective departments in the same county, promoted due to scandals of their superiors. I wish them both the best. I wonder how Director Miller feels about this?

Thanks Director Miller for supporting us at the Fire Side. The Morale is up 95 % from yesterdays actions with Chief. I noticed on the Police side that some dont realize your worth, but we do and we will show you how much in our work. Thanks again to a true leader of men. God bless.

Where was the service provided by the police to the fire in Dunwoody that the fireman took the fall on. Who was suppose to go. DeKalb PD or Dunwoody PD?

What is this about??

http://www.ajc.com/news/dekalb/commissioner-fire-chief-was-289465.html

On Friday, DeKalb officials fired Acting Officer William J. Greene, Capt. Tony L. Motes, along with Battalion Chiefs Lesley Clark and Bennie J. Paige.

Capt. Sell Caldwell, who also responded to the fire, remains under investigation.

Personnel records obtained by the AJC show all but Caldwell had clean records with evaluations that showed reflected they exceeded standards.

Records show Caldwell was suspended for 52 1/2 hours in 2008 for using inappropriate language while addressing a subordinate employee. He was also cited twice for excessive absenteeism and not properly supervising an employee.

Foster has needed to "be gone" for quite a while...horrible that it takes an innocent death to bring that to fruition. Eddie O'Brien is without a doubt one of the most stand-up guys I've ever had the privilege to work with. While it might look a little "hinkey" to have brothers as Police Chief and Fire Chief, you could NOT make a better selection for either position. ROCK ON, ACTING CHIEF EDDIE!
