God Bless this man for his compassion. He made the world a better place.

I wish they would keep expanding it...we need dogs 24/7....I get tired of hearing "K-9 is on call"....I know they just got 4 new dogs but they need to keep looking for more grants and add about 25 more!

They have 4 brand new dogs in the K9 unit. They should be coming on line soon. But you know what we really need more of? We need more Lieutenants and Captains in this department who are more like John Ledbetter was! He was a tough, straight shooting son of a gun who would take up for his officers and didn’t care for ass kissing. He did what he thought was right and he wouldn’t sell someone out just to get promoted.

We have a few good ones in this department. But too many of them are self serving, arrogant jack asses who only care about themselves. They are too busy kissing ass to care about their troops or the mission of this police department. Yeah, I am afraid that men like John Ledbetter are a thing of the past and that is a shame!

hey Lt's and above where are the leaders like this in dekalb now

Cpt Ledbetter was a guy who stood up for his troops and cared and realized that "loyalty is a two way street". There were only a few and I mean very few that thought that way and the very few that thought that way are all gone by now.

If the K-9's are there to sniff out drugs, why are they under Special Ops and the ticket Nazi's? Why aren't they working with Narcotics?

This man was a real POLICE OFFICER from what I'm been told.

If there were 'real' men like this still around, and in charge, this blog wouldn't be what it is. Love the blog, but what would you need to vent about? I'm close to being a "senior", and I too miss the days when people like Capt. Ledbetter were the norm, not the exception. People use to live by principles, values, ethics, doing what's right - not greed and power-mongering. Rest in peace my dear sir.

The Narcotics unit HAS a few dogs used strictly for drug sniffs, but the apprehension/"Dual Purpose" dogs are under Special Ops. The 4 new ones are all Dual Purpose K-9's...

I agree with everyone....we need another Ledbetter...another person that will fight for us and get us the tools we need...having dogs 24/7 would help too!! But on getting an average 2-4 more evry two years just doesnt cut it....Im sure there are some grants out more to get "25 more"!!

We have enough dogs already, there located in Decatur! Now shut up

Anonymous said...

Why not put the dual purpose dogs under narcotics too if their primary function is sniffing out drugs?

What are you all talking about? We have some real LT's.....just look at Muffin at East and Willie D at South.......the future of this department right there

Who is Muffin and Willie D, are those two of our new K-9s? Those are horrible names, how bout like "Thor" or "Blaze"?

"Muffin" must be a nickname earned as a result of a "muffin top". Just look for the guy whose belt is covered up with a layer of flab.
(Hopefully, it's not a slur for an 'alternative' lifestyle)
(Hope Capt. L is enjoying a good laugh)

The primary purpose of the k-9's NOT under Narcotics is apprehension, not sniffs. The ones' primarily for sniffs are already under Narcotics.

I think we need more sniffers than apprehenders.

Did anyone mention that we need more dogs?
