Where There's Smoke, There's Fire?

Did Burrell Ellis pick up where Vernon Jones left off?

This will be fun to watch.

No, Foster is full of it. The man is a narcissist.

From a retired Firefighter; Foster was full of it and he did in my opinion create a very hostile work enviornment. It is hard to believe that he could claim harrassment. I was there and saw all of it. He needed to go years ago. It was unbelievable and miserable.

I think we work for the nuttiest county in the whole country. From the best to this in 30 years.

Ask anyone that works with the fire department, there was a party when Foster left. If anyone knows about intimidation and can recognize it it would be Foster.

dont know about a cover up, but the CEO did say he accepted his resignation, then the AJC said Ellis forced him to resign, the the CEO says he resigned in lieu of termination. Thats three different things. I know alot of people didnt like Foster personally, but I know alot of people respected the work he did. Poor Chief Obrien, that sux. and Damn, Miller gets blamed for everything. no wonder he has a driver...

I am with the CEO and Director Miller on this one. There is just simply no story here because the fire chief served at the pleasure of the CEO and he could have fired him anytime he wanted to. There was no reason to conspire or plot against Foster. Foster sounds a lot like Terrell Bolton if you think about it. Everybody at the police department clearly understands why that idiot needed to be fired and we were happy when Ellis did it. The Fire Department hated Foster almost as bad as we hated Bolton. So who cares if Ellis and Miller wanted to get fire Foster? Talk to the fire fighters and they will tell you good riddance!

Whether Foster is full of "it" or not, you can't get around the fact that Ellis lied in the beginning and is now changing his story. Just when you thought you finally had an honest person at the helm ....along comes that pesky dishonesty-bug that plagued Vermin. Wonder why exactly it is that here in DeKalb we just can't seem to get folks in office that have any integrity. Oops, let me guess: because they are politicians.

Foster was one of Vernon's boys. He was despised by his troops.

Wiz Miller had an 1100 badge number and has served the county for 25 years.

Based on what I've written above, you know who I'm siding with.

I'm inclined to side with Ellis and Miller in this situation. Remember all the allegations that Bolton made against Ellis. Let's not be so quick to cast aspersions.

Well we know whose butt Elaine Boyer is kissing-Lady if you only knew the chaos Foster created you would not comment....at all

CBS News needs to speak to the rank and file of the Fire Department. He led the department by intimidation and fear, he was reactive and not proactive. He retaliated harshly to those who challenged him. It was not about public service, it was about numbers. He padded our numbers to ask for more money and personnel. We don't run 150,000 calls, we run about 90,000.

Remember how VJ and TEBO would gather police officers to surround them for a media interview.

Looks like the same type show, but we talking Fire Department on this one.

Same show different characters.

Anonymous said...

I question the Fire Chief serving at the pleasure of the CEO if that is so why was TEBO given a merit system hearing?

Where is Fosters memo of allegations, I want to see that and also the threatening emails he received. The truth will come out sooner or later. I dont give a crap about Foster but I still want this investigated by someone. Then we will know how much its going to cost the county before its over.

I have a simple question to ask, if a hard working man gets laid off because of cut backs, does this relieve him from criminal prosecution if he assults the person that laid him off? My point is Chief Foster was hated and had no respect from anyone that dealt with him but does that give anyone the right to treat him harrass him out of his job. Document the problems and terminate him for the right reasons. The CEO is not what he peached he would do for this county and hits employee's. The CEO put Wiz Miller in place because politics allowed him too. As far as Boyer, she will do anything to go against the CEO!!!!! All of them need to member the OATH they took and should be out of office. Wendy stay on the job because this place will make you famous. One last thing, since when does working at a place for 25 years make it ok to treat or act above the LAW!!!! That was a stupid comment and obviously the person that said that has no clue about this county or is part of the problem.

Same type CEO just shorter.

DeKalb County should be renamed to DeMented County.

CEO Ellis talks a good game, but his budget recommendation to increase the CEO's budget by 300 grand whilst facing a 80 million dollar shortfall was ludicrous at best and suggests that the CEO like our commissioners has a real ego problem.
The first thing Ellis did was move his offices from the Maloof to the Ponce building at the hidden expense of the departments that supported the move with resources needed to make it all occur, reprogramming the phones, reconfiguring the data network, building the new cubicles, and moving everyone and everything over and making sure it works correctly. Then doing the same with GIS as they moved over to the old CEO spaces. There was also the added expense of security at the Ponce to support the CEO's office.
Every day I see more evidence of disrepair in the county facilities. The Tom Scott building is the star of the disaster, with a ton of indoor tarps to keep the leaks off the employees in prominent display, and it keeps getting worse. the Maloof Annex, the Burgess bldg, the south sanitation building, the vice squad and another unit had to move six months ago when their roof went bad, and last week I found the ceiling at the Pole Bridge admin offices sporting the all too familiar indoor tarps.
This begs for an answer to the question, where is the money for building maintenance going? DeKalb cannot even maintain its own facilities while the CEO and BOC both moved into new and luxurious offices that did not come for cheap.
The CEO and Commissioners live like kings in their offices, the BOC believes the employees are all incompetent and overpaid probably because of their experience with there own staffs. I dare the CEO and BOC to tour the buildings I have named above and explain why they can't find the money to fix the fracken' roofs that have been leaking for years whilst they work in luxury.
My considered advice for my fellow employees is to look for other full-time employment unless pension eligibililty requirements prevent you. (10 years, old pension plan)
Y'all deserve better mates, and the county will never give it, and its only going to get worse.

All I know is it sure looked like Miller time was about to go Sheila Edwards on that reporter. What a joke they all are.

As a taxpayer, I am horrified at the extravagance of CEO/BOC spending. I will be writing them directly to complain. This behavior is disgusting, no better than under Vermin, and I also campaign against every incumbent.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention LoFlyer. Too bad there aren't more like you.
Wendy, are you listening????

LoFlyer is right on the money and this blog has not covered the half of it. Ellis is ten times worst than Vernon because we have given him a free pass and a key to the bank. New offices, unlimited useless staff, take away cars, take away holidays, take away chiefs and the list goes on and on and on.

I think Foster was a bully just like Bolton. Bolton mistreated people when he was here and when he was fired he cried like a little girl and claimed he was mistreated. The same thing happened with Foster, which is typical of bullies everywhere. He was a horrible Fire Chief and WZ Miller got rid of him. The entire fire department is glad he is gone.

We certainly have our own problems in the P.D. so I am not that concerned with the fire department anyway. We are a long ways from fair and balanced in the police department. A perfect example of the favoritism is what transpired recently involving Capt. AJ (aka- The Weasel ) from training. He called certain friends of his or cute females and invited them to participate in a Firearms Instructor School which was being held at our training. No advertisement or chance for anyone else to participate. Just the people he wanted. This school is difficult to get into and it cost money. This is the same despicable crap that Bolton and Rancifer were famous for. Make up their own rules as they go.

Why would a uniform officer just suddenly receive a call from the Capt. in training and be told that they can get into this school? Why would a uniform officer need a Firearms Instructor School? No one else was even given a chance. I bet most of you didn’t even know about it. All of this was done under the table and people were told to keep quite about it. I guess AJ earned his nickname (The Weasel) honestly huh?

Same old dirty, unfair, and dishonest DeKalb County as it always was. I like O’Brien and I want to believe in him. I sure wish he would put a stop to some of this dirty, under the table crap that goes on in this department.

Regarding the training incident, My guess is, that came from Tommy (snake in the grass)Lane not AJ. He is the idiot running that shop now. When he can stay off the golf course.

Anonymous said...

Tell a lie and blame it on someone else. That also sounds like something AJ would do. There are a few problems with the blame Major Lane defense. First, everyone in training says AJ runs everything and goes to the deputy chief when he thinks he needs to. Second, AJ is the one who actually called these officers in secret. Third, the officers are AJs friends not Major Lanes. Forth, Major Lane is retiring next month so why would he give a damn about it anyway? Fifth, Major Lane is a decent guy who stood up to the Bolton gangsters while AJ was busy kissing their ass.

The story about the Firearms Instructor School is true by the way. A lot of supervisors in uniform know all about it. Although I know a lot of people do not like him, the point of the story is not really about AJ. It is the broader problem of unfairness and the fact that some people will never get a chance. What you earn has nothing to do with it; it is all about who you know. Some supervisors think that is the way to conduct business and that is a shame.

Now now lets put our thinking cap on and remember Tommy Lane kissed Boltons ass too. He was given multiple chances to run a pct and couldnt do it. To say he stood up to Bolton is a joke, Bolton saw he was incompetent to run a precinct and stil is. Good riddence to him, he always been a joke.

LoFlyer: Have you been to the license /permits dept. lately at old 34? Man! Had to get fingerprinted there just a very few months ago and feces had even come up from under the carpet and caused a huge mess! Sounds just like what we used to experience anytime a perp. decided to stop up the john above CID..who can forget that stinkin' mess! Not to forget about all of us who developed respiratory and sinus problems. Too many times to count..and they told me water has flooded the carpet numerous times and some of the employees are now having breathing problems. And what did the county do about the smelly mess? attempted to have the carpet cleaned...not replaced! If these folks have been moved out of old 34 and into a healthier environment, wish you would write about it. If not, take a tour of this fine department...just another example of "DeKalb Caring About Its Employees"!

If I put my thinking cap on I would say that you just gave Terrell Bolton credit as to having the good sense and morals to decide who is competent. That is all that I need to know about you. I think the truth is that there are about 10% of the police officers here who wish that Don Frank, Vernon Jones, Terrell Bolton and Rodney Rancifer were still in power. Sad……very sad.

Anon 24, next time I am in your section, I will make inquiries, no one has mentioned this issue you describe, but the Burgess bldg has never been a favorite among those who have to make things work around here. The problem was the overflow from the plumbing caused by P.O'ed prisoners jailed a decade past. Unless you bring up the issue to OSHA or to the media, nothing will be done. The squeaky wheel gets the grease! Forget risk management. They have no influence, they can't even keep their offices in the Alamo clean as evidenced by the utility spaces and my equipment inandated by rat feces. Fracken' nasty mates!

Maybe Bernard Watson could come ask the carpet some "tough questions"?
Seriously, looking into this would be a good idea. Anybody emailed Steve Schwaid?
