I was with the County for a short time, I know three Officers that killed someones dog. One was a domestic, it was a puppy pit bull and the other the officer jumped on the hood, shot the mutt then cused out the owner for having a loose dog- Southside. The other one- no comment.

Well im all for killing anything that is trying to kill me, but I know what the policy says about deploying the AR-15.
Now unless somehow Captain Harris can show his sidearm was at a disadvantage because the suspects firepower was greater than the officers he is screwed.
Well I say screwed, you know he is a Captain now.
This will be intresting to see if he is disciplined for violating. policy

Now are we talking about Pitt bulls, Chihuahuas or Wiener Dogs here?

For the love of all that is sacred, please tell me this story has nothing to do with Capt. Cowboy Harris from South Precinct. I have heard nothing about it so I really do not know.

I'm lost here folks. Been gone for a week. What did I miss???????

Can we get some background info? Where and when did this take place..I haven
t heard it thru other units?

Appears Captain Harris assisted on a burglary call and smoked a pit bull with his AR15. Multiple shoots fired.

Dog was DRT.

Well, no loss there!! Good job !!

1 more thing, he was out there on a call...instead of sitting behind the desk. GOOD JOB !!

I've dropped a full grown deer with a single .223 round shot from a Mini-14. Was this dog high on PCP?

You're so wise. You're like a miniature Buddha, covered in hair.

Did the military stop teaching leadership by example, I know Dekalb stopped a long time ago.

Fits right in with him shooting at dead air a year ago. As I recall he responded to a call and heard shots and started firing back in the general area without seeing any threat. He will be a Major soon for sure.

Leadership by example huh? The policy on when an officer can deploy with a M4 rifle is clear. IF the Captain did what you guys are saying he did he clearly violated the policy. Only in DeKalb P.D. will that pass for leadership by example. How many officers has this department fired in the last six months? For some reason we just can’t figure out why we are so screwed up. Truly amazing.

Question of the day- how many ways can Dekalb Officers say 10-4

I can understand having to kill a dog if it is attacking you, but, really, how tough does it make you to just kill a dog for no reason? Badge of honor? Showing off? Making a complete ass of yourself and the County by killing someone's pet? What next? Putting dog stickers on your car showing how many kills you have? Go tell your K9 officer how many dogs you have killed.

Ok Clearing a house on south side that should be added to the list of times to deploy a patrol rifle. but even though its not. leadership by example he was out there clearing a house when do you see any other capt scratch that we will go lower when do you see any other Lt out of the office besides 10-60 and mail runs. the weapon was in his hand when dog attacked did you want him to drop it and pull out his sidearm. you chicken shit babies. at least he reacted most of you officers are either to lazy or to scared of your own shadow to even kick the stupid dog let alone shoot him. I bet some of you gutless wonders would have froze at let the dog attack you and your partner

Opps I screwed up said...

Hey we didnt make the policy ass wipes, the guys upstairs did.
If you dont like the policy then dont carry the rifle, if you cant comply.
Im all for killing anything man or animal trying to do me harm, ,but the ol Captain was wrong in his choice of weapons!
Should be a good topic for roll call, its refreshing to brow beat someone with rank instead of a rookie.

I get the feeling that some of you young officers would like to see a Captain or Major beat the hell out of a handcuffed perp. Boy that would be cool! Look at the Captain! He is one of us, and he is out here leading by example! Against the law? Who cares! Against the rules? To hell with the rules!

The fact is that there are some absolute gangsters working for the DKPD and so called leaders like Brian Harris are not helping anything. These young officers look at Harris and see him breaking the rules and think it is ok for them to do the same thing.

Brian Harris has fired more rounds in DeKalb County than some solders or marines in Iraq. Seriously, when is someone going to do something with this guy before something bad happens?

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH...If you were not 10-7,it's easy to play Monday morning quarterback, you can't say what you would have done in the heat of the moment, adrenaline rushing thru your veins, come on guys. We have to many pitbulls running amuck in this county, chasing citizen's,biting people..whatever kind of dog it is,less one..stop with all of the shoulda, coulda, woulda's

Capt. Brian Harris is an excellent example of a police officer, leader, and manager. You don't agree your 360 degrees wrong. Personally investigated that so called "shooting at nothing" case, get your facts correct before making a statement the discredits anyone. Capt. Harris exited his patrol unit, as a Lt. at the time, on a call of an assault/robbery, and immediately took fire, directly at him, he saw the muzzle flash in a wooded area near by and fired, merit hearing cleared him. Back to the dog incident, depends on facts of case, let it be heard. AR, 9mm, 45. who gives a flip, depends on many factors. You don't Harris fine, hard charging/motivated managers in any business make enemies of those that are half-steppers. Now Capt. Harris will bring it to "them" before they bring it to him is not a crime nor a policy violation, Rock on Capt Harris, you can police in my neighbor hood anytime, and business owners out there listen up if you need a smart manager, HIRE HIM.

I give South Precinct credit, they have the same common goal in mind, arrest the bad guy. I wish some of this style of policing could rubb off on the ajoining precincts especially the one directly to the "EAST"!!! Oh so you have some weed and your giving me a fake name? Ok well here is your ticket with your fake name on it, have a good day sir.

Hey, that is a good idea. A separate set of rules for South Precinct. Sounds like Brian (the rules don’t apply to me) Harris come to think of it. How many officers have you guys had fired in the last few months?

There are some good officers at South, but don’t be so arrogant as to think there are not good officers at the other precincts as well.

To the detective who investigated Harris on the shooting when he was a Lt. and cleared him of all criminal charges, I have a question for you. Did you also investigate all of the other Brian Harris fiascos over the years?

When we were first given authority to carry the .223 a couple of years ago, I said then that a couple of dumbasses would mess it up for all of us because they can not follow the rules. We will end up having them taking from us eventually. Oh well, AR, 9mm, .45, .40 cal , .38 special, .357 magnum, artillery strike, who gives a flip??!!

I take it S. Pct is still the stepchild of the department.
