Again?

It looks like with time, the failed computer programs and equipment, and even maybe some personnel issues in our 911 dispatch system is coming to light.

5 fireman were fired when a woman burned to death in her home. The fireman claim they did not receive enough information. So far, 2 fireman have been reinstated.

A 90 year old woman calls 911 for a heart problem and has to wait 25 minutes for a ambulance.

Now, a high school soccer player suffering from a head injury has to wait over 20 minutes for an ambulance.

An external investigation into our 911 system needs to be conducted immediately before more people, including one of our own dies.

They probably dispatched a unit from the farthest point......can't tell you how many times the send me to the farthest reaches when other units are closer. I've grown weary of waiting for a supervisor to speak up. Now I hit the enroute button and slowly make my way to the distant call. NOT MY PROBLEM....I'M NOT MEANT TO THINK, MY JOB IS SOLELY TO REPOND TO/ANSWER DISPATCHED CALLS.

The school system bankrupt this county. Look at there expenses. How can they justified what they spend?

They need to look at what they get for the dollar. The school system sucks and the teachers are leaving for better school systems. The kids are out of control and what do the School Police do?

They called the real police DKPD to solve their problems.
They do this every day that they work, unless a holiday and then they are all off.

Can you say Conroy, Fritchee and Wishard?

At the end of the day, where is the public safety director? You would think since we have a coordinator now, we would have less of these problems. Once again, too many managers, consultants, contractors and no one is doing the work. Everyone wants a title, an office, business cards but no one wants to step up and get shit done. Welcome to the Dekalb County aka THE NEW City of Atlanta/Fulton County.

Whats next? Sending response units for a South Dekalb call to North Dekalb.

Dear Dekalb citizens it is my perogative to inform you that Burrell Ellis once again has abused his power. For the last 4 days Ellis has requested not only one but....two officers sit outside his residence in patrol cars and guard him from someone he claimed threatened him and his family. Now I must say if the Citizens of this fine county were in fear there would be no way in the world the county would allow us fine officers to sit outside your door for 24 hours a day for four days and counting. This is a waste of man power and a waste of tax dollars. If your so scared you need to hire your own personal protection not mooch off the county. But as we all continue to say nothing has changed just the perps i mean people in charge....we need an overhaul, a "Pimp My County", or an "extreme county makeover".....Burrell Ellis you should be ashamed of yourself you take my holiday pay and now you expect me to sit outside your residence and protect you? THIS my friends and Co-Workers is an OUTRAGE!!!

In my opinion, that call was classified as a traumatic injury, a low priority call. More than likely it was held for a CARE unit, if none was available then it was given to a DeKalb Rescue as an "A" determinant call (non-emergency response.) That is why is took 22 minutes, it was not classified as a life threatening call more than likely.. Realistically, low priority calls do not need a 9 minute response time if they are classified correctly.

So you guy's are totally leaving out the part where the lakeside call was dispatched correctly...why is that? you cannot blame everything on 911...we are not the ones driving to the loc taking 25 mins....the county needs to look at the cad system.....the "new" upgrades have totally messed up an already broken system...

Well, I could be wrong, but I believe diversity is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

To Annonymous 6.. I agree with you 100%, not only are we sitting in front of Burrell Ellis house but also Gwen Keys house (POAP)... I thought he had DKSO to protect him. When he first started office he said he didn't feel comfortable with DKPD protecting him, therfore he will use DKSO for his "executive protection" detail.

Tucker Pct. is currently looking for a child molester who broke into an apartment and molested a 7 year old girl, now we have TWO uniform officers sitting in front of Ellis house? WTF 24 hrs a day?? We only had 10 officers patrolling.. Doesn't he have like 5 Deputies assigned to him already? and now you are wasting tax payers money?
Get real man! Same script, different cast.

DKPD isnt good enough to provide executive protection for Mr Ellis, he hired DSO to do that, but we are good enough to take two call handlers off the streets to sit in front of your house 24/7! Wow! We get the detail that DSO doesnt want. This is unbelievable! On 2nd thought, this is Dekalb County, this is very believable!

WTF? I gotta sit in front of the CEO's house for my entire shift. This is insane. Where is DSO? How many officers have been threatened by perps and didnt get this type of protection? Oh I forget, in Dekalb County Government some lives are more important than others.

No one is blaming the dispatchers or the call takers. Calm down sweety! Yes the CAD system is messed up. The old Vision Mobile system was just fine. Buddies taking care of Buddies. That is why we have the screwed up CAD system in the first place. It is going to take someone with POWER to suffer from the mishap of that CAD system we have in order for someone with the director to look into it. But then again nobody believes it's their responsibility. Things like this don't fix themselves!

I try not to comment on this blog, however, how many times must radio tell you or say that this is a CAD issue! We as operators(experienced atleast) do our jobs and do them well.Just as pd has a lot of 2600 and up badge numbers we have a lot of operators with 5 or less yrs due to high turnover rates etc etc etc. This is not a 911 dispatcher error, this is about RESPONSE times from the responding units.Just because the news says it doesn't mean it is actually a dispatcher's fault! This again is about the time it took another unit to get to a location, granted if they gave 2 intersecting streets, that's what they gave and that is what the operator put on the call, yes we have asked for certain things to be put in the CAD system, like stadium names, parks, centers but that has NOT happened yet. If no one knew the physical address then all we can go by is what the caller tells us.We have lost in the last 6 mos/or losing w/the retirement about 20 people, either thru resignations, firings or the buyouts,we have not in all the years that I have been here been fully staffed.(I) do my best everyday that I come to work, make sure that my calls, comments, locations are thorough and complete. Please don't classify ALL radio operators as slackers, lazy or inexperienced there are some great operators in communications and I trust that you will recognize them when they work your radio's. As always I hope that everyone remains safe and have a good day!

Why is it back in the late 80's and early 90's we never had this problem. That system worked like a top and we would listen out on the radio and speak up if we knew something was amiss or wasn't correct in the way it was dispatched. Also, I hate the kid and family had to wait 22 minutes but apparently it was non life threatening. After all the AJC article said the kid was back at school a couple of days later. I always love the accusations by the complaining parties that the response was double or triple what it actually was. Then we play the tape and they get this goofy look on their face and start squirming.

On Channel 2 tonight Jodie Fleischer reported that it was a CARE ambulance dispatched. They arrived in 11 minutes. However they said they were dispatched to the corner of Briarcliff and North Druid Hills. When they saw no one was injured there, the paramedics looked up Adams Stadium on the internet to see where it was located. Jodie did not clarify how the paramedics knew the incident was at the stadium, nor when they found that out. She did not report that the medics called in for clarification, so one has to assume they knew it was Adams Stadium all along. The question is why they didn't just go there to begin with.

Yes, we have some GREAT operators. Hey Binder, please tell me you are still going to be sticking around for awhile. I really would hate to see you go.
