State Court Judge Mobley Spent $25,000.00 Of Taxpayer Money On Travel

While the county is trying to make ends meet, and the county justice system says it needs more money to operate, Judge Barbara Mobley spent 25 thousands dollars on travel, including travel outside the country.

Being a judge is a pretty cool gig. The perks and benefits are not advertised. If anyone is near untouchable in local government it is the State and Superior court judges.
Training has been a sore-spot working for DeKalb, my counter-parts in the business community inform me that they have to take 80 hours professional training a year minimum or they get fired. I have not received 80 hours professional training in the last decade, and the major training I did have was done on my own time, six months of night classes, the county did pay for it though(but not my time), and not my certification, which is required for my job.
It kind of pisses me off because I am less effective and our OJT on new technology is to figure it out as we implement it, and hope for the best.
As for the judges, they generally work 4 days a week, the 5th day is seminars or conferences. They have the most amazing pension plan seen in government. Almost all of it paid by add-on charges to traffic citations.
I don't hold the 25 grand spent on numerous conferences and seminars by Judge Mobley against her. She did travel coach, and for where she went and what she did, the cost is minimal.
Now lets discuss travel and expenses for the CEO and BOC. I know Ellis went to DC to beg for stimulus funding. How much did that cost and how much did we get back from the excursion? How much money have the commissioners spent in the last two years for travel and seminars? I am willing to bet that in most cases it is considerably more than the 25 grand spent by Mobley.
Now lets take this thinking a little farther. How much have our directors and asst. Directors spent on training over a two year period?

Kinda sux, mates!

She really believes that the public will buy that the only places she could find legal training was St. Thomas, Panama, and Hawaii. RIGHT!

She is taking expensive trips to exotic locations during an extreme recession when people are being laid off and then saying "it was in my budget". Who enabled her to do this by providing this much budget? That is the real question here. There needs to be very strict fiscal discipline in government these days. Stories like this demonstrate that there is a lack of fiscal discipline. At least she cancelled the Hawaii trip and apparently they are on top of this expense now.
