Department Seeks $65,000.00 To Arm ICP With Assault Rifles

The county is seeking 65 thousand dollars to arm ICP with AR15 assault rifles.

ICP is described as working with youth, schools, seniors, apartment managers, homeowners, businesses and religious groups, just to mention a few.

Do these groups really pose such a threat that ICP officers have to attend community meetings armed with assault rifles? Or maybe it's to guard the magic buses. Wait, that can't be true because a beat car is pulled to guard the buses, not an ICP officer.

Seems to us the department would rather arm a 911 answering beat officer who faces danger on a daily basis instead. But you never know when little Johnny might nut up at church or when granny might break bad at the senior home.

Just as ludicrous, Bolton's loyalist praise the magic buses in the grant money request. If you thought Burrell Ellis was going to do the sensible thing by auctioning off the useless buses to recoup some of Bolton's wasteful spending, think again.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

The madness continues.

I cannot think of anyone in the police department who actually believes in the ICP program. Unless you look at the officers assigned to it and how they get to avoid having to do real police work.

ICP is a hard assignment for an officer. You have to look at what they are assigned to do everyday.
All the social functions they must attend.

The new summer uniform look that they have is a Reno 911 special.

After reading the entire document I clearly see the problem in DeKalb...SPEND, SPEND, SPEND!!! Apparently it doesn't matter how ridiculous/unnecessary the expense; the frame of mind is "well, if we have the money lets spend it even if the item is useless!"

Example:CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING

Remember,
Hop on one foot at the library
What kind of animal are you

This is what I remember, so must not have made an impact on me.

Now for anyone who doesn't know the grant program educate yourself.I'm too not a big fan of how the ICP program is ran and thier lack to respond to actual calls(not hot calls only), but the allocationof funds is very specific.Do we want the $65k going to ICP? Maybe not, but what other programs do we want to go to? I'm very sure those rifles will be wide spread for other officers from Swat and TRT,who will actually get the new rifles and ICP will get the old ones. Its just a smart play from the sdministration to get the tools they need from the government without "putting" it out there. You also gotta remember that must people can't qualify with thier service weapon without a gimmie let alone a rifle. The line of smart policing can go to several things and a request for diffrent items can go, but until you become a collective and address the right people whats the point of complaining?Be safe, and be smart out here fellow officers.Like the comment goes the madness never stops.

additional comment from ANON 5,REMEMBER its a grant not taxpayer money. If you don't use it, it goes back to the government or another department from dekalb gets it. What would you decide?

Anon3. I agree 100 percent. The federal government gives out huge amounts of our hard-earned taxes as "free money" to be wasted on the lamest projects devised by man. Our economy is crippled and our so-called leaders just keep on voting and spending more and more.

Kinda sux mates!

PS. Note to the blogmasters. I kept this as non-political as possible. I do feel strongly on this subject though.

I can see why the Dept needs to buy them rifles, those community meetings can get rough. I had to buy my own to attend the course. I mean nothing is said when a light bar falls off a cruiser because it was barely mounted on the vehicle or a directional bar falling out of the back window because it was just laid up there instead of mounted with brackets. Uniform gets nothing while these special units get all the extra funds.

What the heck is ICP anyway. Is it some of the COPS hug-a-thug crap from a few years ago? Maybe ive been gone long enough now to where I can really sit back and enjoy the show. The elected clowns really have run off with the circus it seems.

Next thing you know, each of their brand new units will be equipped with spot lights for use at night and air cards to be sure they're computers are fast.

Oh yeah, their units already have air cards and spot lights that make no sense for a unit that works "bankers hours".

Let's get real....line officers get the hand me down crap while the special groups are pampered. You have to wonder why morale is low.

Next thing you know, they'll be offering the rifle class that is not on the list of offerings this year for just ICP.

I say take it dudes! Crawford Lewis and Pat Pope-Reid lost us
$10,000,000 by not filling out paperwork for State money in a timely way (to hide what they were doing), so we might as well take advantage of every dollar thrown our way. If we don't use it, somebody else will!
DO hope you get the new ones though - you deserve it. Saw an officer at the Depot today, and his car was really in sad shape.

From an outsider -
ICP is still in uniform and cars, right? So how does anyone (criminals) know they're ICP? They don't, so if they don't have them now, seems like a good idea, but DEFINITELY think you should get the new ones since you are the ones most likely to be using them.
Thanks for keeping the world a safer place.

The "real" uniformed division is and always been the red headed step child of the PD. All the crap rolls down hill to uniform. The specialized units are always fed from uniform and uniform is always short handed. Uniform is the mushroom division; fed crap and kept in the dark.

I have tried unsuccessfully to get a phone or e-mail response from not 1 but 2 of the ICP officers assigned to my area/neighborhood w/no luck. Know both of these officers personally as we all worked together on neigh. issues before .We once again are having major problems w/a known drug dealing/felony shoplifter in our neighborhood who was recently released from jail 4 months early . No grass growing under her feet-started all over again the min. she walked into her house-same crap/different day. Only 41 arrests for this fine upstanding DeKalb resident and she's only 35 y/o..We rcvd excellent help from our ICP last spring/summer but we must have really stepped on somebody's toes 'cause we can't even get a response in any form this summer. Our residents have always been very supportive of our ICP unit as they helped restore peace and quiet to our neighborhood before:no cars pulling up 24/7 to the house where the person lives, no car doors slamming all hours of the day and night...but here we are again going through the same scenario as we have for the past 17years. Just love our court system. No wonder officers get so frustrated after you make arrests. It is understandable that many depts. are in total dissaray after all of the retirements but crime doesn't take a holiday and we surely could use some help over here behind #34.

What everyone needs to look at is all the Federal Grant Money that we waste on useless items for law enforcement in DeKalb County.

We spent all the drug seized funds for some expensive motor homes. That are useless, have someone explain what they do to curb crime.

The cost factor now since warranty has run out has to be outrageous.

I think their are some who believe that Bolton and Vernon was great leaders. The question is why are they still here?

Have you seen the lastest crap dumped on uniform? Not only do we have to check every library everyday, but the officer actually has to go inside the library and make contact with an employee, and then put the employee's name in the comments when entering the irs on the call. We also have to check all the parks and submit a monthly summary of how many times we checked each park! Where is ICP when you need them? This place is absolutely insane! Our priorities are realy screwed up. Walk inside the library?? Geeez! Leadership from the top!

ICP is a joke! The officers come in, get their assigned cars, and you dont see them again for 10 hours. Now Im sure they are doing some good and much needed community stuff. However, Im also sure they arent doing community stuff for the entire 10 hour shift. Who holds them accountable for their time management?

If you think ICP is bad, what about these PAL Plus officers?? What do they do for 10 hours a day? It seems like a great concept, but I havent seen any of them at our police softball games, nor did I see any of them come to the basketball games that the Tucker officers played against high school students. Both seem like great events to be supported by PAL. I went to the basketball games and there were about 1000 students at them.

Please read before you post. That goes for you as well "BLOG MASTER". I know this wont be posted but if you knew anything about grants this would not even come up. ITS NOT FOR ICP. This is what the grant says "Funding will be used to purchase tactical patrol riffles to be shared among the various units."

Don't we have a park unit?

DeKalb needs to go back to the old way of policing - We are not your little buddies or your private security guard. We dont hug criminals and try to get them to change thier ways. We are not high school mentors, thats a parents job. You screw up and you will meet us up close and personal, and you will remember it. It will not be a pleasent experience! We are spread very thin and we dont have time for a lot time an resorce wasting foolishness. The leadership of DeKalb has lost its way over the last 20 years by trying to get law enforcement closer to the criminal element in an effort to breed good will in the community. All they have done is breed criminals in the police department. Crime is a cancer and it spreads. You cut it out and remove it. You do not make a better enviroment to live in hoping it wont kill you. OR Maybe DeKalb actually wants criminals for cops... They already have them in very high ranking positions in the department and have had them for years. The criminal elected politicians made sure of that. I am retired now thank GOD!
