This County Is In Serious Finacial Troubles

The county offered an early retirement to save money. Promising it would only cost 30 millions dollars, which it borrowed from our pension, in turn cost 43 million dollars now owed to our pension plus interest.

Not being the answer to the financial problems the commissioners were facing, they started forcing us to work holidays for no pay, and have now out right furloughed us.

Now, because departments are short on personnel, overtime is needed to fill the gaps. Some department heads are screaming they are running out of money because of the overtime being paid out.

On top of this, the commissioners borrowed an additional 36 million dollars from the federal government.

The commissioners are completely over their head. They must be depending on Sharon Sutton's economic expertise to guide them through these difficult times.

Some guy on here has been telling you guys to "keep these idiots away from our pension" long before the early out. No body listened. Now look.

What "idiots" are you talking about ?...the BOC or the pension board? I'm telling you that we need to hire an "employee advocate" in the form a law firm to protect us from them. They seem to be able to dip into the pension fund for all their needs including an attorney to represent the pension board. The employees should be able to fund a lawyer for our side. These people are idiots and I'M scared about what they are doing to our pension. This $43 MILLION WHATEVER IT IS TO THE BOC IS REALLY UNBELIEVABLE. THAT IS 43 MILLION THAT IS NOT WORKING FOR THE GOOD OF THE PENSION UNLESS YOU THINK DEKALB COUNTY IS A GOOD RISK? WHAT RETURN IS THE PENSION FUND GETTING ON THE MAYBE LOAN? I'M WONDERING. I DON'T THINK IT WAS A GOOD MOVE AT ALL. WHAT ELSE CAN THEY USE OUR PENSION FUND FOR?
YOU PEOPLE BETTER GET INTERESTED.

The sheriff department is on overtime and the police department are on furlough days. Now I understand this problem. Don't you?

The police department has been told no overtime for any reason. I lose 32 hours of pay. The they hire these people back , give away money to people fired or resigned. This place is unbelievable. I give the sheriff credit at least he protects his people and makes sure they do not lose any money out of their paycheck.

I agree to bad we don't get backing from our Public Safety Director. The Sheriff Deoartment is hiring PD so now is a good time to swap over to someone who cares about his employees.

Dekalb SO is staged to engulf the PD as has occurred in various other counties so get on board while you still can.

Do you see now the difference between an elected official, the sheriff; and appointed officials, the director and police leadership? The sheriff only answers to the people. The appointees answer to the elected officials who appointed them. Big difference as far as their job security is concerned. This is why Sheriff Brown will do whatever is necessary in order for his department to meet its objectives. If that means having to pay his current staff overtime, then so be it. He has no reason to be afraid.

It is kinda funny how short some people’s memories are. Folks are talking like the S.O. is Nirvana. Do ya'll not remember that the last three Sheriffs DeKalb had went to prison? One for MURDER. Do not take this as a slam on Sheriff Brown, he seems like he is doing a good job, but he won't be there forever. The same dumbasses that elect the B.O.C. also elect the Sheriff.

There are pros and cons for the sheriff's office to absorb the police department. On the one hand, we will get leadership that will stand up for us like Sheriff Brown is doing now. Doing so would eliminate Wiz Miller's position and the chief's position saving money. The other assistant chief positions, perhaps some, but there would still be the need for department heads to lead police department specialties that S.O. does not currently have responsibility.

The down side is the merit system we would no longer be under the protection of the merit system. But, that should not be an issue for all of us just the one's that frequently get into trouble.

Mixed feelings on this subject ladies and gentlemen. But for the present time we might be better off than we are now since Sheriff Brown won't allow the BOC to interfere with the necessary operations of his department.

OMG, you guys are making out Tom Brown to be a Saint! lol... He has no choice, if he dosen't keep the Zoo (Jail) in check the Fed's will be on him like you know what. We've already been through that!!! The SO taking over PD? Nope, already been trough that also!!!

Speaking of bad memories; The SO lost the most to the early out. Imagine that, wonder why!!! Now it sounds like they got it going on. LOL... Let me just tell you why SO lost the most. The moral there absolutely SUX! People think he's doing such a fine job on the outside, but on the inside it is dismal scene!

"There are pros and cons for the sheriff's office to absorb the police department. On the one hand, we will get leadership that will stand up for us like Sheriff Brown is doing now. Doing so would eliminate Wiz Miller's position and the chief's position saving money"
WHAT?, He recommended that Ellis bring back the PS Director!?

"The Sheriff Deoartment is hiring PD so now is a good time to swap over to someone who cares about his employees"
WHAT!? You might want to talk to someone who works there, or speak with Capt D. Browns widow.

This is quite humorous!!! It just never ends.
